Chapter 47 Doubled Security
COLLIN'S POV
I stood in my study at six in the morning watching the security team install cameras in every room of the house. Tiny cameras that looked like smoke detectors or light fixtures, cameras that Caitlyn would never notice unless she knew where to look.
"How many total?" I asked the lead installer.
"Sixteen cameras throughout the house," he said. "Plus audio recording devices in the bedroom, bathroom, and main living areas. Everything will feed to a secure server that only you can access."
"Good," I said. "And you are sure she will not notice them?"
"Positive," he said. These are state-of-the-art. Military grade. Most people look right at them and do not see anything unusual."
I walked through the house inspecting each installation. The camera in the bedroom is pointed at the bed and closet. The camera in the bathroom is hidden in the vent. Cameras in the hallways, living room,, and kitchen. By the time they were done, there would be no single place in the house where Caitlyn could have a private conversation.
"What about outside?" I asked.
"We already have cameras covering the perimeter," the installer reminded me. "But if you want, we can add more focus on the driveway and front entrance."
"Do it," I said. "I want to see everyone who comes and goes. I want to see if she tries to meet with anyone."
"Yes sir," he said.
My phone rang, It was Dimitri. "Did you install the surveillance?"
"Right now," I said. "By tonight, I will have eyes and ears on her twenty-four-seven."
"Good," Dimitri said. "Because we had another problem last night. The cops raided the warehouse on the north side, same thing as before. They knew exactly where everything was."
I felt my blood pressure rising. "How is that possible? We just got hit two days ago. How could they have information about another location so fast?"
"Someone is feeding them real-time intelligence," Dimitri said. "Someone who has access to our entire operation."
"Caitlyn does not have access to our entire operation," I pointed out. "She was in my study but that does not mean she knows about all our locations."
"Then maybe it is not just her," Dimitri suggested. "Maybe she is working with someone else. Someone in the organization has been passing information to the cops."
That was an even worse thought. If there was a mole inside the organization then we had bigger problems than just my wife.
"I will look into it," I said. "But for now I am focusing on Caitlyn. If she is the leak then I will prove it."
"You'd better prove it fast," Dimitri said. "Because the organization is losing patience. Two raids in three days are not acceptable. Someone is going to pay for this."
"I know," I said quietly.
After he hung up I sat there thinking. Two raids, both with detailed information. Both happened right after Caitlyn went through my files, which could not be a coincidence.
But Dimitri was right that my files did not have information about all our locations. Just the main ones. So how did the cops know about the warehouse?
Unless Caitlyn found more than I thought. Unless she copied more files than just the ones I knew about. Unless she was smarter than I gave her credit for.
I needed to confront her again. Needed to put more pressure on her until she broke and told me the truth. But I also needed to be careful. If I pushed too hard she might do something desperate like try to run.
The installer came back into my study. "We are all done. Everything is online and being recorded. You can access the feeds from your phone or computer."
"Show me," I said.
He pulled up the app. I could see Caitlyn in the bedroom, still sitting on the bed, staring at nothing.
"The audio is on a separate feed," the installer explained. "But it records automatically. You can go back and listen to any conversation from the past twenty-four hours."
"Perfect," I said. "Send me the login information."
After he left I pulled up the audio feed and started listening. Most of it was boring. Caitlyn is talking to Mrs Chen about dinner. Caitlyn is talking to herself about the baby, but nothing useful is said.
But then I heard something interesting. Caitlyn is on the phone with someone. I could only hear her side of the conversation but it was enough.
"I know I am being careful," she was saying. "But he is suspicious. He found the phone. He knows I have been calling someone."
Silence while the other person talked.
"No I did not tell him anything," Caitlyn continued. "I said it was about the gang members who threatened me. I do not think he believed me."
More silence.
"I do not know how much longer I can do this," Caitlyn said and her voice broke. "He is watching me all the time now. I am scared."
The other person said something.
"Okay," Caitlyn finally said. "I will wait for the signal. Just please hurry. I do not know how much time I have left."
She hung up and I stopped the recording. So she was working with someone. She admitted it. She was spying on me and feeding information to someone and waiting for a signal to do something.
I had my proof. She had betrayed me. Now I just needed to figure out who she was working with and what their plan was.
I called my tech guy. "I need you to pull records on that burner phone number. I want to know every call that was made and when and see if you can triangulate where the calls were coming from."
"I will try," he said. "But burner phones are designed to be hard to trace."
"Try harder," I said and hung up.
I went upstairs to the bedroom where Caitlyn was still sitting. She looked up when I came in and I could see fear in her eyes.
"We need to talk," I said.
"About what?" she asked.
"About who you were just on the phone with," I said. "I heard you Caitlyn. I heard you tell someone that I found your phone. I heard you say you were waiting for a signal."
Her face went completely white. "You are listening to my calls?"
"This is my house," I said. "And you are my wife. I have every right to know who you are talking to and what you are planning."
"I was not planning anything," she said desperately. "That was just my friend Rachel. She was worried about me and I was telling her I was fine."
"Do not lie to me," I said. "Rachel does not use burner phones and she would not be giving you signals. You are working with someone. Who is it?"
"Nobody," Caitlyn said. "You are being paranoid."
I grabbed her arm and pulled her to her feet. "Tell me the truth right now. Who are you working with? What are you planning?"
"You are hurting me," she cried. "Let go."
"Not until you tell me the truth," I said.
"I do not know what you want me to say," she sobbed. "I am not working with anyone. I am not planning anything, I just want to have my baby and be left alone."
I stared at her trying to figure out if
She was telling the truth, but I knew she was lying. I had heard her on the phone, I knew she was working against me.
