Chapter 154 The Lie It Built Around Her
Chapter 154 The Lie It Built Around Her
Chapter 154 – The Lie It Built Around Her
The silence inside the room became unbearable after Aria exposed the lie. Nobody moved for several seconds. Even the alarms from the monitors felt distant now compared to the weight of what she had just said. Daniel stared at the speaker while the unstable signals continued tearing across the screens, but his focus stayed on her breathing. It was uneven, frightened, exhausted, yet different from before. Something inside her voice had changed. The fear was still there, but it no longer sounded helpless.
The entity understood it too.
“You do not know what you are seeing,” it said coldly through the speaker, but the calm certainty it once carried had started cracking apart. Daniel heard it immediately. So did Aria.
“Yes, I do,” she whispered weakly. “You made me believe I could not survive without you because you knew I would fight harder if I discovered the truth.”
The lights across the monitors flickered violently. The operator cursed under his breath while trying to stabilize the collapsing patterns spreading across the system. Every screen showed the same thing now. The connection between Aria and the entity was becoming unstable in ways none of them had seen before.
Daniel stepped closer to the speaker. “Aria, listen to me carefully. What exactly did you see?”
Her breathing trembled softly before she answered. “Memories. Real ones this time. Not the versions it kept showing me.”
The room stayed completely silent as she continued.
“I saw the first night it entered my mind. I was alone. I was crying. I kept wishing everything inside me would stop hurting. Then I heard its voice for the first time.” Her words slowed slightly as though she was reliving the moment while speaking. “At first it sounded kind. Gentle. It kept telling me I was safe. It kept telling me I could rest.”
Daniel closed his eyes briefly because that was how it always began. Not with violence. With comfort.
Aria swallowed shakily before continuing. “But it also lied to me from the beginning. It never connected itself to my mind because it needed me alive. It connected itself to my fear.”
The entity answered immediately, sharper now. “Fear kept you alive.”
“No,” Aria whispered. “Fear kept me dependent on you.”
The monitors screamed again. The operator looked terrified now. “Its structure is destabilizing faster every time she rejects it.”
Daniel barely heard him. His entire attention remained fixed on Aria because he could feel how fragile this moment was. If fear took control of her again, the entity could still drag her back into that emptiness.
“It kept making me believe I was already broken beyond repair,” Aria continued softly. “Every memory I hated about myself became a door for it. Every lonely night. Every moment I felt abandoned. Every time I thought nobody would stay.”
Daniel’s chest tightened painfully because her voice no longer sounded confused. It sounded aware.
And awareness was dangerous to something built on manipulation.
The entity’s voice darkened. “Humans create their own suffering long before I arrive.”
“Yes,” Daniel said calmly before Aria could respond. “But suffering is not permission to consume someone.”
Silence filled the room again. The entity no longer argued immediately this time, and that frightened Daniel more than the anger did. It was thinking now. Adapting.
Aria inhaled shakily again. “It keeps trying to bury the memories every time I remember too much.”
“What memories?” Daniel asked quietly.
“The real version of myself.”
Her answer landed heavily in the room.
“I was not empty before it came,” she whispered. “I was hurt. I was tired. I was lonely. But I was still me.”
Daniel felt something painful move through his chest because that sentence mattered more than she realized. The entity survived by convincing people they had already disappeared long before it touched them. If Aria reclaimed the truth, then its entire hold over her weakened.
“It says pain always wins eventually,” she whispered weakly.
Daniel answered immediately. “Pain only wins when people stop believing they deserve more than it.”
The line crackled violently after that. Aria gasped softly as though something inside her mind recoiled.
“It hates when you speak like that,” she whispered.
Daniel’s expression hardened slightly. “Good.”
The operator suddenly looked up from the screens. “Daniel.”
His tone changed everything.
Daniel turned toward him immediately.
The man pointed at the monitors with visible panic. “The entity is trying to detach itself.”
The room froze.
The unstable patterns were separating violently now. One signal moved erratically across the screens while the other flickered weakly beneath it.
Aria’s breathing became frantic through the speaker. “It is leaving.”
Fear returned to her voice instantly, but this time it sounded different. Not fear of losing it.
Fear of what it might do before it escaped.
“It says if it cannot control me anymore, it will destroy everything inside my mind before it goes.”
Daniel stepped forward immediately. “Aria, stay with me.”
“I am trying.”
The weakness in her voice nearly broke him because she sounded exhausted beyond words. Days of fear, manipulation, isolation, and emotional war had drained her almost completely, yet she was still fighting.
The entity laughed softly then, but the sound no longer carried calm control. It sounded unstable now. Angry.
“She will collapse without me eventually.”
“No,” Aria whispered.
The silence sharpened immediately because this time her answer carried certainty.
“I survived before you.”
The monitors exploded with distortion.
The operator stumbled backward. “Its patterns are collapsing.”
Daniel’s focus snapped back toward the speaker. “Aria.”
Her breathing shook violently. “It keeps trying to erase things before it leaves.”
“What things?”
Another shaky breath escaped her lips. “You.”
Daniel felt his chest tighten sharply.
“It says if I remember you, I will keep fighting.”
The entity answered instantly, colder now. “Attachment keeps humans trapped in suffering.”
Daniel stepped closer to the speaker again. “Aria, listen to my voice.”
A weak breath answered him.
“I am here.”
“You hold onto this moment.”
The silence stretched softly between them while the monitors screamed around the room.
“You hear me?”
“Yes.”
“You remember who you are?”
A long pause followed.
Then her voice cracked softly.
“I am trying to.”
Daniel closed his eyes briefly before speaking again. “You are not the emptiness it showed you. You are not the future it built around your fear. You are not broken beyond saving.”
The line crackled violently again.
Aria cried out sharply.
The operator stared at the screens in horror. “The entity is attacking her memory centers.”
Daniel’s chest tightened painfully. “Aria.”
Her breathing became uneven and distant again.
“It hurts.”
The words came out barely audible.
“It is trying to make me forget everything all at once.”
Daniel forced calm into his voice even while panic started rising inside him. “Stay with me.”
“I cannot hold everything.”
“Yes, you can.”
The entity laughed coldly. “She is already slipping.”
“No,” Daniel snapped sharply. “She is surviving.”
Aria inhaled shakily again.
Then suddenly she whispered something that made the entire room fall silent.
“I remember the first time you told me I was stronger than my pain.”
Daniel froze.
Her breathing trembled softly.
“And I remember believing you.”
