Chapter Eighty-five: Baby Comes

“Morgan, why is this all happening now?”

Morgan nods, “I suspect destiny has a plan. All I know is that I was drawn here. I walked thousands of miles to find you all.”

Elena asks, “That far?”

Morgan smiles, “Yes, the closer I got the more I could feel the power. It called to me. It took nearly a month to get here.”

“But that's the time…”

Vincent interrupts, “Of the first Haze.”

Morgan purrs, “Now you're getting it! That's when the change first began.”

“But we'd just met!”

She purrs, “When it's fate it doesn't matter. Stop thinking like a human because you never were! Prince think you must remember stories of the old

gods. Artie, Vlad you boys too.”

I laugh and Morgan purrs loudly, “They are boys. Vinny, I think it's time you stop resenting what you are.”

“Vin?”

Vincent sighs, “I told you I had blood on my hands, Eva.”

“Well your brother ended up being Vlad the Impaler so it goes with the territory.” Vlad chuckles and I roll my eyes and shake my head, “You have regrets while Vlad has fond memories. You feel when he does not.”

Vlad scoffs, “Woman he hates himself if you haven't figured it out, why he chose to become a recluse.”

I touch Vincent's face as I speak softly, “How can you hate something so beautiful?”

Vincent sighs, “Because I killed her and I'll kill you.”

I take his hand, “Come,” and we all take a seat in the living room. I sit on Vincent's lap. He won't say it, but I know he needs the closeness. He needs to feel our connection, our bond.

Vincent looks into my eyes, “Do you remember me mentioning Clare?”

“She died in the war that Artemis turned you.”

Vincent hangs his head, “She died because of me.”

I cup his face, “How?”

Vincent sighs, “I killed her.”

Katie exclaims, “You what?”

“Katie shhh.”

Katie huffs, “There better be one hell of an explanation!”

“Vin go on, please.”

“She was bitten by this dark red-haired woman,” he says.

Morgan interrupts, “Raven!”

Vincent glares at her, “Whatever witch you brought her into our lives!”

Morgan shakes her head and puts her ears back, “I told you not to marry that you'd be Clare's death! You chose not to listen!”

“Okay hold up! Raven bit Clare. Was she aiming to turn her?”

Morgan purrs, “Yes.”

“Why? What could she gain from it if Vincent was only human?”

Morgan sighs, “To gain power, why else?”

“Why her though?”

Morgan taps her tail, “To control Vincent, why else? Not all are destined to become gods, Eva. I think she sensed he was different.”

“But he couldn't become a god unless it was with his mate.”

Morgan nods, “Yes, the one thing Raven didn't know. Clare wasn't his mate. You and only you are.”

“Vin why did you kill Clare?”

Vincent sighs, “To keep her from becoming one of them, one of the things I hate!”

“Vincent, you can't kill me! I'm your mate!” I take his hand and place it on my stomach, “You won't take my life. You made life!” I smile as I kiss his cheek, “All because of darkness's kiss.”

Vincent kisses me, “I love you.”

“And I love you, too,” I say as I pull him into a passionate kiss. I taste his regret and sadness, “I once asked what made you prefer an eternity of loneliness. I now know but you'll never be alone, Vin. Your demons are my demons and together we will slay them all!”

I pull back and search his eyes, “Do you believe me?”

Vincent smiles that smile that melts me, “Yes, my love!”

“Why?”

“Because we are bound!” he murmurs as his lips claim mine. It's not just filled with passion and love but with a promise…a promise of an eternity together.

Morgan looks at everyone, “And that's why they're mates because I'd have kicked his ass!”

***Vincent’s POV***

Now Eva knows my darkest secret and deepest regret. Morgan foretold Clare's death, but I didn't listen. I was arrogant and didn't believe in fate. Morgan told me not to marry Clare and that I would put a target on her. I thought she meant the crown because I was Prince and soon to be crowned

King even though I was adopted. But she meant Raven.

Morgan saw others' futures but could never interfere. She just tried to guide and I was too prideful to listen. Had I listened, perhaps fate would have played out differently or I would be exactly where I am right now. Fate now sits on my lap and is carrying my child. My child!

It is rare for a vampiric child to be born, but according to Morgan, we aren't vampires but Gods. My love for Eva is no different knowing this. I don't care what she is or what she's transformed me into. But I do care about what we made. We made life!

Whether my child is a girl or boy or not supernatural at all, I don't care. My child will be loved and protected until I take my last breath!
