Chapter Eighty-one: Facing The Gauntlet

**Elena’s POV***

I'm so nervous as I approach Morgan. I honestly have no clue what to expect. I know no physical harm will come to me, but still I'm a bit worried. Yeah, I've gotten good at using electricity as a weapon and a shield, but I've never used these spells.

Morgan rubs my leg, “I can feel your anxiety, girl.”

“I can't help it.”

Morgan stops and stares at me, “Just react, don't think.” She rubs my legs as we talk, “I want to see the real you.”

“I'll try.”

Morgan purrs, “Are you ready?”

“Yes.”

Morgan says, “Then repeat after me and you'll be free.

As above, so below.

Let the gifts once lost be bestowed.

What was once lost.

Shall now be found.

Release me from this earthy prison of which I'm bound.”

I repeated it three times as Morgan requested. I felt this odd warming sensation takeover. It made me feel invincible.

Morgan purrs, “So shall it be done, so mote it be!”

“I feel strange but a really good strange.”

Morgan purrs, “Oh I can tell!”

“Thank you.”

Morgan says, “Don't thank me little witch. Instead, show me what you can do. Let the gauntlet begin!”

And with that I'm ported to this dark castle. It's kinda familiar as it reminds me of Vlad's. I walk a bit and I get this odd sensation like I'm being watched.

I say, “I know you're there. I can feel you show yourself and face me!”

Out of the shadows comes ghouls, lots of them. I'm basically surrounded. I look up. I see my escape. I use my lightning like a whip to create a bit

of space as I fly up to the rafters. What makes this odd is that ghouls don't normally go after the living. Ghouls are creatures that traditionally feed on the the dead like a vampire (mostly by drinking their prey's blood), though some have been known to feed on living humans. They can only be killed by decapitation or the destruction of their heads. They can shapeshift, appearing human by taking the form of the last person they ate. Ghouls are unaffected by silver or holy water too.

So someone must be controlling them. I remember a spell Morgan taught me to counter grave magic. I'll use the wrest control spell and make these ghouls my minions.

“ego autem te Commanus.”

Light engulfs the ghouls and they freeze in place. I laugh, “That's right you're mine now! Rip each other's heads off!”

Decapitation is the best and most surefire way to kill a ghoul. Then there's just one left. I use my lightning whip to take his head. As his head falls to the ground everything shifts.

“What the hell?”

Great, I'm in an illusion. The ghouls weren't real. Damn you sis! I faintly hear her laughing. The next thing I know, I feel burning arms grab me and port me. I'm being held above a caldera. My lightning does nothing to free me. It's like I'm being coated in insulation.

Eric says, “Think fast, Elena.”

He lets me go. I can't fly and I can't use my electricity because of whatever it was he coated me in.

“Fuck you, Eric!” I yell as I'm falling. I need to land in something besides a pit of lava. So I use a spell.

“Aguamenti,” I turn the lava into water. I splash down into the lukewarm water. It feels like a nice bath. I kick to the surface just as everything changes again. The water was a good call because it washed off whatever that was that Eric coated me with.

Now, I'm in a field and a pack of werewolves are charging me. It's daylight so these can control their shift. That means they're Lycan like Sam. I can hear their heartbeats. This isn't an illusion! I don't want to hurt them

So I shock them with my electricity so they are temporarily stunned. While that happens I port. Wait, I just ported!

“Holy shit!”

Vlad shakes his head, “Good try, Elena.”

“Fuck! Where did you come from?”

The bastard just laughs. I roll my eyes, “You're such an asshole!”

He laughs harder as he smirks, “Your sister reminds me of that fact daily.”

A new-found confidence bubbles inside of me as I laugh, “Do your worst.”

He shifts into a dragon. I shrug, “So you're a shifter now, just lovely.”

I know I can't let him touch me. If I do l'Il lose my electricity as Vlad always tried to protect me by temporarily stripping me of my powers. He never respected my independence. Yet he's smitten by my sister who's far more independent than I ever was. Well, the best way to deal with a vampiric dragon is to not deal with it, so l port.

Vlad yells, “You left a trail!”

I'm back in Vincent's yard, but I'm not alone. A being of pure energy is looking right at me. It shoots an electric burst at me and I counter. Great, I'm dueling myself. Everything I do it counters and vice versa. This is nuts! Then an idea hits me…

I surrender by putting my hands up, “I can't win against myself.”

The being shifts and Vincent appears, “Good you figured it out.”

My sister materialized right by Vincent with Morgan on her shoulder, “Not bad, sis.”

Morgan grins, “Well shadow walker, I know what you are!”

“Then what am I?”

Morgan nods, “Part demon, witch, and human from what I can tell. Your father must be Mormo. He's a demon that controls ghouls and was fond of Hecate.

She's the goddess of hell and witchcraft. Why witchcraft comes easily to you both.”

Eva responds, “So that's where I get my death touch from?”

Morgan purrs, “Yes. No doubt he was here on Earth to collect souls for Hecate and met both of your mothers. But as for who your mother is or what that's going to be tricky, Eva. But at least we know why you love vampires and werewolves.”

Eva says, “Because of my demonic nature.”

Morgan purrs, “Yes. You're drawn to creatures whose souls you would control.”

“Hey,” Vlad exclaims.

Morgan bares her teeth, “Oh zip it before I do!”

Vlad smirks as he rubs his hands together, “Try it Hello Kitty!”

Eva laughs as she strokes his hair. I can see the love that Eva has for Vlad, and I'm happy. Part of me loved Vlad but part was drawn to Marcus too. It was easier to stay gone to protect them and myself. Now that I'm free, I can tell that Marcus is my mate. It's not as strong as the mating bond that Eva has with her guys, but it is there. I won't reject it either. Maybe it will grow more as we learn more about ourselves too. All I know is that I have never been happier.

Eva smirks at Vlad, “My pet you know she can't but I can.”

Vincent laughs, “You know she will too.”

Morgan purrs, “Girl power! Who doesn't like a powerful pussy.”
