Vincent and I sit on my bed in Vlad's castle. Vlad pulls up a chair. The haze in his eyes is still present but has diminished a bit. He's still fighting to control it though.
Vincent is hazed but in control at least for now. I'm guessing my eyes are hazed too because I'm just pissed at everything. I am at a turning point that I am not sure if I should or could turn back from.
“It's time to deal with this,” Vincent says as he touches my face, “I had thought that I lost everything because of the war. I sought vengeance on any I thought remotely responsible. I obliterated kingdoms and rulers alike.
I turned cold and cruel for so long. Vlad and I became closer as we sought vengeance for our lost loves. Then I grew ashamed of who I had become. I left it all behind. I swore l'd never love another human or vampire.
So I buried myself in my work and created the life I have now. I was drawn to your writing for Stranger Things. I had thought about tracking you down. Then the night of the Gala, I saw you. You were so full of light, I had to approach you. I was a moth drawn to your flame. Then you spoke so eloquently about the wine, having no clue how right you were.
Then I looked into your eyes. I was instantly bound. I fought it because it scared me so I tried to compel you and Katie, but I couldn't you. That's when I knew you were made for me. But after the things I've seen and the even worse things that I've done, I didn't deserve you. I fought it. I shouldn't have!
We are both broken Eva, but together we are stronger and can heal each other. You loved Kevin and disease took him. He showed you a glimpse of what love is like. But this…”
I smile softly, “This goes far beyond that. Far beyond the tangible and explainable.”
Vincent nods, “You saw Vlad's loss just as you saw Eric's.
“But it was more. It was more than I have seen and felt from any of you,” I reply.
“Yes far more than seeing. Your powers merged, did they not?” he asks as I look away. Vincent brings my face to him, “Don't you think that means something?”
I know where he is going with this, but I can't admit it yet, “Maybe it's just because you share some blood.”
He chuckles as he raises an eyebrow, “If that were the case, father would be here too. Yet he's not and you could harm him. Can you harm Vlad?”
Vin knows he's right, but I am stubborn, “I haven't tried.”
Vincent smirks, “Because you know you can't! But to prove my point, do something you know is reversible.”
I point to Vlad and say, “Avada Kedavra.”
Vincent laughs as his smirk widens, “See nothing.”
Vlad looks between Vincent and me as he asks, “What was supposed to happen?”
Vincent grins as he answers flatly, “Your death.”
“What the hell!” Vlad yells.
Vincent sighs as he shakes his head at his brother, “Relax, she can undo it. You wouldn't have died unless she envisioned ash, instead you'd have been a ghoul at her mercy until she reversed it.”
Vlad looks at me with a newfound appreciation, “Eva, you can control all immortals. You are a goddess!”
I sigh, “Yeah. But I didn't ask for this, seek it, nor want it.”
Vlad nods knowingly, “Yet that's why you have it.”
Vincent beams, “Exactly brother, she's the best of all of us. She's like no other. She's as infuriating as she is sweet too!”
“No matter what you're still an ass!” I tease.
Vincent chuckles, “Proved my point.”
He smirks and I raise my eyebrow, “You challenging me?”
Vincent grins, “No powers.”
Maybe Vin can put aside any grudges he had against Vlad. It seems like Vlad is open to that idea as well. I am glad that Vincent shared his past and that I saw Vlad’s. It helps me connect to them even more and it seems to have strengthened their bond as well.
Vincent and I engaged in a bit of wrestling. He would put me in a hold and I would counter as he countered anything I tried. Vlad laughed and egged us on. I feel less nervous around them both, but I can't be with Vlad intimately so he will just have to be content watching Vincent and me until I feel comfortable claiming him.
Vincent is right and the others are too. I am going to have to not just feel our power but accept it!
