We are at the house making a late lunch. Katie will be home in a few hours unless she stays over a bit to ready for the next day.
———Sam’s POV————
There is nothing that I enjoy more than cooking with Eva, well almost nothing. I shouldn't have stayed away, but I wanted to try and do some research. I was onto something when Eric sent word for me to get here fast. I broke so many laws getting here, but I'm glad that I did.
I nearly lost my mate. I didn't even hear her cry for help, and that bothers me. I guess it just happened so quickly, but I'm thankful that she wasn't turned. I want pups with her. I can't have pups with a
half-dead being like a vampire as dead can only sire dead. Now that we have claimed each other, I can suggest pups. But how should I approach her about this?
I have time unless she wants to become a vampire. But maybe though she can't be turned. Vincent trying no matter how accidentally proves that, at least I hope so. Her instincts protected her. Perhaps they are the key to discovering what she is too.
No matter what, I will protect her and I will never let myself be that far from her again.
----End POV----
“I'm going into the office tomorrow,” I announce.
“One of us is going with you,” Vincent reminded me.
I roll my eyes, “I figured.” I'm going to have to get used to them babysitting me but it doesn't mean that I must like it!
Sam gives me a knowing look as he reminds me, “It's the full moon Eva. It's best to be here before it rises.”
I roll my eyes, “Well the sun sets around six, so if I leave by four I'll be home a few hours before the moon fully rises.”
Vincent smirks because I said home. I huff, “I swear!”
I go back to helping Sam. Soon lunch is done and we chat and eat. There's just an ease around them. No pretense, no animosity, and no outward distrust. There's a concern but it's not because of a lack of trust but because of our situation and my well-being. I'm not used to that!
My ability to glean information from what is unspoken is growing. I do my best to avoid mind reading because I hate that intrusion, but I am getting better at reading them. I can tell right now that the dishes in the sink are starting to annoy Sam. He likes a tidy kitchen. Which if you looked at him you'd find it hilarious. How we all fit together is pretty comical as well, but yet it works. We all like control, yet we realize that that burden shouldn't fall on one person alone. We share it. We are a team.
Sam leaves to go help his pack a bit. Eric goes to his place and then the club for a bit. They both won't be gone long. It gives Vincent and me some alone time though.
“So would you like to come into my studio with me?” he asks.
Of course, I would. I'm not going to pass on an opportunity to share with him as I learn more about him, “Sure.”
We go into his recording studio and he shares stories about some of the artists he's worked with. I had seen glimpses when I snooped in his mind, but hearing the stories behind those images makes a huge difference.
He gives me a sly smile, “I want you to record something.”
“You know I can't sing,” I tell him.
“Just humor me,” he grins.
I roll my eyes as he chuckles at me. He smirks because he knows he's won. He takes me to the other side of the glass where there is just a chair and a microphone. He goes to the other side.
“Ready?” he asks.
I shrug, “I guess.”
I feel so out of my element. This isn't me. But I'll try for him. He's opening himself up to me and letting me into his world. It's the least I can do.
I sing a poem that I wrote long ago…
“I'm here all alone while you're there in your home
The rain is pouring down
But you're nowhere around
I'm wondering why I thought this was meant to be
I'm wondering why you left me
I close my eyes but there's no way to disguise that this is not a dream
Things are really as they seem
How could I have been such a fool to allow you to discard me like a broken tool
I really thought this was it because of how we just fit
But it was merely a fantasy because you're not my destiny
You only saw the worst in me but now I've found someone who sees the best in me
When I look into his eyes there's nothing that I can hide
I can see forever in his eyes
Forever in my eyes he and I will never part
Because forever he now owns my heart”
Vincent is in there with me in a flash. He's holding me close as he strokes my hair. I realize now that I'd been crying as I sang that.
I pull away, “I’m fine.”
He holds my face as he looks into my eyes, “You'll never be alone, Eva.”
“Only because you can't leave or you'll go crazy,” I tell him.
He smiles, “But also I don't want to. This isn't the haze talking or even the mating bond, l'd have been drawn to you anyways. There's something about you and it's undeniable. I'm bound to you, Eva, and I do love you.”
My brooding asshole of a mate can be so very compassionate and romantic, “I love you too.”
That moment just felt so right, so honest, and extremely genuine. We undressed each other with vampiric speed. He sat on the chair and I straddled him. Then time slowed down or at least seemed to. We kissed and you could feel the electricity course through us. Everything tingled from my hair to my toes.
He lightly ran his fingers up and down my back. My hands found his hair. I loved running my fingers through it because his hair was soft and silky like some cats'. I know he has an aversion to cats but I think it's because he's a lot like
them. His movements are precise and calculated. He turns inward when he feels anxiety until he lashes out but then shows remorse. Just like a cat that may scratch its owner but then not long later is curled up purring on the owner's lap. Once you do have a cat's devotion you do have it for its life. I can say the same for Vincent Black. I have his devotion and he would give his life for mine.
Slowly I take Vincent inside of me. Our eyes never wander and our gaze never wavers. This is us only us. I'm not this weird hybrid being and he's not this mutant vampire. We are merely Eva and Vincent, two people very much in love and tenderly sharing a moment of passion.
Afterward he just holds me there on his lap for a bit. Then we dress and finish by adding music to my recording.
“You look surprised,” he says.
I nod, “I am. It almost sounds like a real song.”
“That's because it could be. The foundation is there. If one of my clients likes this, you could hear it on the radio,” he says with a huge smile.
I blush and look away. I don't know that I will ever get used to genuine praise.
“You're a talented writer, Eva,” he says with pride.
We hear Katie announce her arrival and just laugh. “If she ever doesn't do that I should worry,” he says with a grin.
“Definitely,” I reply as I giggle.
The rest of the day and night goes by uneventfully. Though I am a bit anxious. I thought the guys would have been back by now, but I know that they're okay or else I would have felt it. I guess I have gotten more used to having them all around than I have thought.
