Chapter Twenty-Seven: Embrace The Night

We finished the intense ritual for the blood debt. I'm still unsure, but I know I had to go through with it. I'm still getting used to all of this. I have noticed something though. The more I'm around Sam, Eric, or Vincent the more I learn about them and myself as well as what is fact versus what is fiction. I still am not quite sure where I fit into all of this though.

However, I know that a new ability surfaces around them. I have so many questions still and very few answers. Are the new abilities that surface ones that I've had all along? Or are they drawn from my guys? Or are they amplified from them?Somehow controlled or connected to them? Ugh, what else can I do? Can I handle all of this? Then there's the darker questions of who is trying to keep me from interfering? From interfering in

what? Will there be another war? At what cost? Even if we succeed, what happens then? Do I just go back to

being a single version of a human? Does the order need to be resurrected? Could I even lead it? What would happen to Katie, my friends, my mates? There's just so much!

I found myself on the shore of a lake. The full moon is approaching. Currently, the moon is a waxing

gibbous soon it will be full soon. Its rays illuminate the water making the ripples sparkle like polished jewels. The autumnal equinox is approaching, but it has been warmer than usual. Yet the snow remained on the mountain caps. I feel inspired here.

I've always embraced the night though. I've always been drawn to it, energized by it. I guess it makes a bit of sense now. After all, I'm some sort of creature of the night.

It really is lovely here. Maybe too quiet though. Yes even with all of these people at the pack house, it still feels quiet and lonely. I've always wanted a family. I have one here fully accepting me, but something is still missing. Why do I feel like something is missing? While pondering all of this, I had removed my clothes and slipped into the wet embrace of the water. I float and gaze at the moon in the tepid still waters.

I speak aloud, “Your exotic embrace causes electricity to wash over me

Heated desires rise higher, causing fires in our eyes.

They lock me in, I'm trapped

and memorized

My longing for you I can no longer disguise

The silky touch of your fingertips, your tepid breath excite every nerve

It's like you're alive and far more than I deserve

Our entangled forms wait until pure love is expressed

I can see through you

Like a sultry silhouette

I belong, I'm home

It's a truth and not a threat

Souls forever intertwined never to forget

We are like the moon and the sea, because you will forever

have a hold over me

Walking beside you is a home that was meant to be.”

I had failed to notice during my discussion with the night that I was no longer alone.

Vincent asks, “So where is home, Eva?”

I snap my head around as I spin to face the shore. There standing all together are Vincent, Eric, and Sam. They don't seem as divided as they were before I left with Sam to come here. Something has changed!

I look from the moon to my guys, “The night is my home. I like the feel of sunlight on my face, but I don't feel…I don't feel real or truly alive as I do now. My brow furrows, “Am I becoming a vampire?”

Eric shakes his head, “No, we'd know.”

“You told me you rarely sleep during the night. That you're a night owl I believe you said,” Vincent says.

Eric asks, “Have you always felt the pull of the night?”

I tell them, “I don't remember much of my childhood. I blocked a lot of it out. I do remember when I was five or six, I'd pretend to go to bed around 8 pm. l'd wait until after my foster parent checked on me, then I'd wake up and read or write. Sometimes I'd just gaze out of the window wishing I was a

part of the life going on out in the shadows. I'd stay awake until nearly sunrise. Actually not much has changed now that I think about it.”

Vincent chuckles, “You discovered coffee!”

I laugh, “It does makes the daylight hours more bearable.”

“We heard your thoughts as well as felt you so followed them here. Gran feels that we are all the moon's children. Humans, wolves, vampires, and maybe some witches. We all were born under a phase of the moon. It shapes who we are,” Sam reveals.

I nod, “Well kinda makes sense as most humans were conceived at night. Thus upon conception they were first born.”

“What phase do you connect with?” Sam asks me.

I answer as I gaze up at the moon, “This one, the waxing gibbous. It's always been this one. Why?”

Sam chuckles, “Well it makes perfect sense if you apply Gran's logic.”

“Spill it!” I command.

Vincent laughs.

Sam grins, “During that phase the moon itself is seeking perfection. It means that you too are aware of your ability to achieve perfection. You know your own potential.”

I say, “I'll never be perfect.”

Sam smiles as he looks around, “Even when the moon is full, is it perfect alone?”

“The moon is never alone. There's always stars in the sky and it's relationship with the tides and animals,” I explain.

Sam looks into my eyes, “The Moon is never alone just as you will never be again. You have us now for as long as eternity can allow.”

Vincent stares at Sam.

Sam looks at Vincent, “Just say it man?”

“Who are you right now?” he asks Sam.

I snicker.

Sam tells Vincent, “I could ask you the same, vampire afraid of a little cat.”

I burst out laughing.

Vincent glares, “Still not funny.”

Eric laughs, “Oh quite the contrary.”

Vincent sighs, “Not you too?”

Eva laugh, “It was hilarious! Still is too!”

Vincent smirks at me, “You're pure evil!”

I shrug, “I just might be.”

Sam gets that dominant tone, “Eva you know you're not!”

I sigh, “But I wanted them dead.”

Sam tries to reassure me, “But you didn't kill them. You wanted it, but didn't do it.”

Eric adds, “Wanting and doing are two different things. I want them dead as well, yet they are confined and will be judged tomorrow. So if that doesn't make me evil then you're certainly not!”

“What's going on?,” I ask because I feel that we are growing and changing ever since we all arrived here.

Eric says, “Eva we four are changing, evolving perhaps. That I can't be sure, but since you've been around look at how we interact.”

Sam smiles, “Eva you've brought us together. Vincent is still an ass, but I no longer wish to rip his head off.”

I walk forward so that water is just above my breasts. “No, I don't want you all to have to because of me,” I tell them.

Sam says, “There isn't going to be a fight, and it isn't because of you making us either.”

Vincent adds, “We've reached common

ground because of you. Not because we think we must to be able to love you.”

I ask, “So we are all friends now?”

Sam chuckles as he shakes his head, “Think we are way past that Snow White.”

Vincent grins, “So where is home?”

I smile as I recite them a poem that expresses what I feel in this moment, “This is home,” I point between us,

“This is my favorite place

The beginning and ending of each day

The triumph and the glory

because between us there will always be a story

Near or far, no matter where

we are or however far we roam

We will always return to the face, the space, the place we call home.”

——-Vincent’s POV——

My mate is finally starting to accept all of this. She called us home. For her, and for me too, that's a gigantic step. Am I happy that she married the wolf? No, but it's their culture to do that so quickly with their mates. Do I want to marry her? Yes, but I will need to wait for the right time. Right now we need to know who the enemy is and what we are all becoming.

To do that we must all work together, which is what is guys were discussing when we felt her melancholy confusion. We rushed to her with open minds and caught a lot of her thoughts. We have right to be concerned about the future but we have to embrace that we are the ones who can change it.

We are ready to embrace our fated mate, but is she ready for us?
