Chapter Twenty: The Haze

We are laying on the blankettalking. He gets this grin on his face because he just got me to admit

that I'm his mate. All I know is that I can not compel my mates to do anything but I can

use spells to keep them from harming each other. Their attraction to me is genuine and not anything

that I have control over as hard as that is for me to accept, it appears that I must. Plus, I do find myself caring for and thinking about these guys so there is a love there.

Why is it such a big deal to him that I'm his mate though? I guess it's cool to find a significant other but this whole

situation is just bizarre. I make a living writing mostly about the strange and unusual. Come to find out, I myself might just be the

most strange and unusual of all. Yet I can't write about it, not until I know more at least.

Am I the only thing like me around in this era? If there were others what happened to them? How'd I get this way? Why now?

As if he could both hear and feel me, f*ck he can! “Eva, enough living in your head.”

He hovers over me while pressing his weight on me. Not enough to make me uncomfortable but enoughto bring me into the moment.

“None of that matters right now. We will figure it out. Everything is fine,” he assures me.

I can't help but smile. As he gazes into my eyes, his lips hover inches from mine.

“That's better. When you smile, it's brighter than the moon that illuminates my night,” he utters longingly.

I smile and giggle because this man is such a beautiful contradiction. Hell, all of my mates are.

He chuckles, “Hey batboy isn't the only one that can be articulate.”

He kisses me. At first it's playful and tender. However, it quickly turns heated and lustful. It's fire, pure fire. I feel consumed by it, but I don't want to escape its heat. In fact, I wanted to be incinerated by it.

But I pull back, “What was that?”

A boyish grin dawns his handsome face, “I just couldn't help myself.”

“What's going on?” I ask. I don't mind it but I do want to understand it.

But before I can it hits me. His scent is overwhelming, his touch incapacitating, and his eyes areentrancing.

His eyes widen, “It can't be.”

“What can't be?” I ask.

He smirks, “You sense it and feel it too, right?”

“The immense need, want, and desire,” I blurt out.

His smirk turns devilishly wolfish, “We're hazed.”

I'm so confused. Just how can this be?

He answers my mental question, “Grandmother might know. As for right now, I don't care and you shouldn't either, my amazing mate.”

“But you have hazed before, so why are you having trouble?” I ask.

“Eva, I wanted you before just as much as I do now. Yes, I have hazed before but nothing like this. It's taking everything I have right now not to rip your clothes off,” he tells me as the space between us lessens even more.

I'm not going to fight this and honestly, I'm not sure that I could, “So don't hold back anymore.” We hurriedly undressed. He put my legs on his shoulders and within seconds was buried inside me. It was intense. Primal, carnal, feral

even, and nothing like I had experienced. We were possessed by lust. Driven only to reach our climax as our bodies smacked together.

We nipped and clawed at each other. We vied for different

positions. It was a battle for dominance that neither of us was winning and not for the lack of trying. Finally, after an hour or so, we are

sated. We are being serenaded by the howls of dogs from miles around.

I laugh and he joins in, “Well that's never happened. Canine approval I guess.”

That makes me laugh more as he kisses me. We appear to be back to ourselves.

He looks into my eyes as he strokes my cheek, “Are you okay?”

His concern is touching, “Yeah, yeah I think I am!”

I grab him and pull him into a kiss. I don't want any doubts between us. What just happened was magical as if it were meant to be.

“Now let's get dressed and go,” I say with a huge smile.

————Sam’s POV———

When I first smelled her, I knew she

was my mate. Once I saw her, I imprinted immediately. Now that I have experienced her, I never want

to leave her side. She isn't just my Luna, my moon, she's my reason for being. I want pups with her. I want an eternity with her or at least my wolf's lifespan. Should I care that she has other mates? Maybe, but I know what I

feel and it isn't just the haze. What we have is different and perhaps it is with the vampires too. I still have my

reservations about Vincent, but I don't know him as well as I do Eric. Eric is a good leader and he won't let us go astray.

One thing is certain though. No matter what, Eva is my mate and I will honor and protect her at all costs!

——-End POV——-

We get dressed and head to the pack house. I noticed missed calls from Vincent.

Sam looks over, “Call him back.”

I sigh, “Almost dreading it.”

Sam takes my hand, “You've done nothing wrong.”

I hesitate.

“Eva, he’s going to have to deal with you using your powers. This time it was needed. Now put it on speaker,” he says.

****Phone Call****

“It's about time,” Vincent snaps.

“First, drop the tone or I drop the call,” I demand.

“Fine,” he says begrudgingly.

I ask, “What's put the bees in your bonnet?”

“Eva, our yard has become a zoo, care to explain it?” he asks.

I laugh, “Your yard so it's your problem.”

“Eva, don't make me find you,” he threatens.

I laugh harder, “It's still daylight so I'll be long gone by the time that you do.”

“Eva!” he yells.

“Vincent, there are animals everywhere it's so wonderful,” I hear Katie say.

“Send me pictures Katie,” I tell her.

Katie says, “Oh I will. You better send me some too!”

I bite my lip, “Um, nothing picture worthy so far.”

“Oh you lie. I don't mind rated pictures and you know,” she says.

“Katie! Go pet a bunny or something,” I tell her.

She lights up because I can feel it, “I can?”

“Yeah, no go” I say.

Sam is laughing his ass off which further irritates Vincent, “Wolf so not funny.”

Wiping his eyes, “It so is,” Sam says.

Vincent directs his ire at Sam, “You know why I'm in hell right now don't you?”

Sam teases, “Maybe.”

“Fix it!” Vincent demands.

Sam looks at me and says, “That's up to Snow White over here.”

“Sam!” I exclaim. I thought that he might have my back. The asshole! I will get him!

Now Vincent turns his attention towards me, “Eva, what did you do?”

I bite my lip, “I didn't do anything.”

“You're lying! Just tell me,” he says.

I huff, “I can control animals.”

“Compel them, yes you can,” he says.

I explain, “No, see through their eyes

and control them. It is more than compelling them.”

“Oh! So send the zoo home then,” he tells me.

“I don't know how. I didn't send it there,” I say.

Sam looks at me, “Eva, the dogs.”

“They howled, so?” I responded.

He gives me a look as the thought hits me, “The haze!”

“Sam you said it was weeks away. She shouldn't be near you right now or any wolf as it's dangerous until we know more,” Vincent says.

“Vincent, she is my mate, she's fine. I can't hurt her and I will protect her,” Sam tells him.

Irritated, “Explain the zoo,” Vincent barks.

Sam chuckles, “Can't wolves don't do that.”

“Then what happened?” Vincent asks.

Smugly Sam responds, “I think you know.”

Flatly Vincent says, “After.”

“Dogs howled from all around. Then we got into the car and she called you,” Sam tells him.

“Then why is our yard filled with every woodland creature plus the neighborhood's pets?” Vincent inquires.

I just laugh as he says, “F*ck my eternity!”

I say, “Go chill out and pet a cat. Besides, Katie is happy.”

“You owe me,” Vincent tells me.

“Put it on my tab,” I quip.

“Insufferable! Stop using your powers!” he yells.

“The zoo was an accident,” I say.

Apparently, I can't hide anything from him for long, “No you were up to something before that.”

“How can you be so sure?” I ask him.

“I know you now. Eva, stay out of trouble!” he says.

“I had to do something though,” I explain.

“Just be careful,” he tells me.

“Aren't I always?” I ask.

“No! Now I need to go and convince Katie that the zoo isn't staying,” he says.

“Good luck,” I tell him.

“Please be safe. I love you,” Vincent says.

“I will. I love you too,” I reply.

****End Call***

Wow, he just said it openly. It sounded so sweet, so blissfully

perfect. I just had to say it back. I don't regret it either.

“He wasn't an ass for once,” Sam says.

I smile, “Maybe I'm rubbing off on him.”

“Let's hope. Has he told you that before?” Sam asks.

“Yeah, but it was just us,” I say.

He chuckles, “Maybe bloodsuckers have hearts after all.”

As I smack him, “Stop!”

“I'm just joking. There's worse vampires than him that you coulda ended up with,” he admits.

I glare at him, “Are you going to play nice?”

He says, “I have been.”

“Better stay that way,” I answer.

In challenge, he raises an eyebrow, “Or what?”

I bite my lip, “Hmmm……I could just deny you until the end of the haze.”

He cocks his head, “Like you want to or could.”

“I'm stubborn enough and I bet there's a spell for it,” I tell him.

“No spells!” he demands.

What does he have against spells? Is he hiding something from me?

“Eva, I won't start anything with the vampires,” Sam says.

“Good,” I reply but I feel that heat and need building again, “Umm Sam.”

He grips the steering wheel, “I feel it too.”

“How do you guys function for months like this?” I ask.

“I haven't. Eva this is nothing like anything I've experienced,” he admits.

“I could take care of myself then you,” I suggest.

“Eva that would probably make me want you more,” he strains to speak.

“Then what?” I ask.

“Get in the backseat I'm pulling over,” he orders.

I do and he pulls over. He pulls down my bottoms and drops his pants. He thrusts into me frombehind.

We have only one focus to climax. It's hard, rough, and fast. But we achieve our goal. We dressed and hit the road again.

“I need sustenance,” I tell him.

He chuckles, “Okay, worked up an appetite huh?”

I smack him, “Just stop!”

“Eva I hope you know what I feel for you and it's not just a primal need,” he admits.

We pull into a drive-thru and order. I know that he feels something because I feel it. “Maybe,” I reply.

“Well I love you and maybe that's why the haze is different. You're my mate and I love you,” he says as he looks into my eyes.

I feel it. I feel him. “I guess we will find out. I do love parts of you too,” I say.

We both laugh because he knows that I am teasing. I just love his laugh and I love making him raise his eyebrows when he looks at me. I enjoy catching him by surprise and teasing him. He's just so natural. He said he loves me and I completely believe it. He's genuine and what we have is real.

I think I will be able to tell him how I feel soon. I know that it's odd to feel

so bound to someone so soon, but there's just no other way to express

it. I feel tethered to him right down to my soul. Same as I feel towards Vincent and if I'm being honest it's there in regards to Eric too. Finally, we reach the pack house.
