Chapter 79 Chapter 79
~JOSIE~
Mikael… Mikael! I tried to reach him, but he had blocked me off. Fear seeped within me and I really wanted to check if he was okay. Yet I couldn't leave until every werewolf was back in the pack — he had entrusted their safety to me, and that was something I had to take seriously.
I knew danger could be lurking somewhere. We could never be fully relaxed, even though the neighbouring packs were terrified of us — somehow there could always be an issue, like one of our pack members finding his mate in a neighbouring pack.
I sent a message to everyone in the pack, warning them not to wander too deep if they were alone.
Looking back, my red eyes glinted, hoping to see Mikael, but he was nowhere to be found and I didn't know how to trace him.
This hunt wasn't for me to find a mate. I had never wanted one, because my whole life I had been waiting to claim Mikael as mine. Ever since I had set my eyes on him, I knew he was the one.
It was either him or nobody!
"I heard the Luna's pregnant," a female wolf whispered to her partner, who looked surprised. My ears perked up, ready to listen to what they would say next.
"Don't look at me that way — it's the truth. The Alpha just used the sickness as a cover-up. Remember, my sister works with a healer," she prattled with all seriousness.
Nyra's pregnant? I repeated inwardly; my claws elongated at the thought.
"Is gossiping what you ought to be doing out here?" I snapped at them. They hurriedly got to their feet and bowed their heads.
"S-sorry, Beta! We…" the one who had been speaking earlier stuttered. A snort escaped my mouth at how quickly she was shaken.
"Get out!" I barked, unable to hold myself any longer. My brows furrowed; I didn't want to believe Nyra was pregnant.

My handmaiden hurriedly closed the door. I was startled by how she had barged into the room, and the frantic expression on her face wasn't helping.
"Who's chasing you, Teeyana?" I inquired, hoping she hadn't landed herself in any trouble.
"My lady, there is a problem!" she half-whispered.
I got up from the bed, striding towards her. "What problem? Is there an attack on the pack?"
She shook her head repeatedly, her chest heaving. "No, this one is…" she trailed off, catching her breath.
"Speak fast!"
"It seems the Luna is indeed pregnant," she dropped the bomb.
"What! How is that possible?"
"My lady, I heard that the Alpha had been staying in her room after their visit to the witch's kingdom," she informed me.
Beaded sweat trickled down my face; my eyes were ablaze and my pulse was speeding. "NYRA!" I brought my hands forward, depicting how I would strangle her if she were nearby.
That wench was not supposed to disrupt my plans. She was a pawn, and now… she had destroyed everything. A stupid lowlife omega had barged her way into our lives!
Heaven knows how much I despised her!
"My lady, we can't delay any longer. If she is indeed pregnant, there is no way we will be able to get the Alpha's attention," my handmaiden said, and I hated to admit that it would be difficult to get his attention with that wench carrying his baby.
"I have to get rid of that baby! I don't care how, but it has to be done this week!" I shouted.
I dismissed my handmaiden so I could be alone. I needed time to think.

I roamed around my room. To be honest, I hadn't come up with any plans. It was exhausting to be in this space and feel so weighed down.
Letting out an exasperated sigh, I got out of my room for a walk, hoping an idea would come to me. I put on leather trousers and a top and began walking.
It was late at night; the chilly air did nothing to soothe my anger. All of a sudden, I was craving blood — blood that hadn't been tainted. I wanted fresh blood, not stored blood.
It occurred to me that we had some werewolves in the cell. I could make use of one of them and even vent my anger on the unlucky soul. When I got to the cell, the guards stationed there recognized me and stepped aside.
I asked one of them to open the gate to one of the cells. The prisoner inside looked unbeaten and healthy for a captive; a snicker elicited from my lips.
The prisoner noticed my presence; he was unsure of why I was there. My fangs elongated and I swiftly dashed to his side.
Slowly, I wrapped my hands around his neck. He tried to fight me off, but he was no match for me. I truly enjoyed watching someone at my mercy try so hard to free themselves from my grip.
"Let me go! Please," he choked on his words, and before he could say anything more, I sank my teeth into his neck. The taste of blood on my tongue was heavenly — it had been a long time since I had drunk this way.
My eyes glowed as I kept drinking. I knew I was not going to stop until I had drained every last drop of blood from his body.
He stopped fighting… stopped clinging to his life. This was exhilarating. I was already drowning in this euphoria when it occurred to me that Nyra was pregnant.
That reminder alone caused me to throw the almost lifeless man aside. He collided with the wall and snapped his neck; his soulless body slumped to the floor, and those nearby went quiet.
I banged my hands on the wall. "Throw him outside," I ordered before leaving the cell.
"Think, Josie, think!" I reprimanded myself.
I decided to go for a run, and while I was at it, an amusing idea came to me.
