We stole the book
We stole the book
Thalia's POV
My eyes widened. As I stood up, “Mr. Roberts,” the regular name slipped off my mouth, but he waved me off.
Hearing my stepfather’s words, I felt like fainting. He wanted to take me away? My stomach suddenly. Fuck I felt nauseous. Weak.
“Dad, Thalia is going nowhere,” I heard Blaze say as he came to where I stood, blocking Father from reaching me.
“Blaze get out of my way.” He warned.
“We can sort this out, amicably.” Blaze insisted.
Mr Roberts scoffed. “Did I just hear you say amicably? This… right here.” He said pointing at me, “is past that stage. No move out of my way.” He commanded.
“I will not.” Blazes voice in front of my firm and stiff. Like he was ready for the mountain to melt..
“Blaze you have the audacity to stop me?” he asked, pointing at Blaze.
Jax now, moved forward. “Pops You know nobody has that audacity, but taking Thalia is not the solution right now,” Jax said as he tried to convince him.
Milo also moved forward. “Dad, Thalia was our responsibility. You can’t just take her away like that,” Milo said in a calm voice.
My eyes watered with the way they all stood up for me, I felt so low, venerable yet blessed and in deep shit.
“Robert,” the voice from behind called. All beads snapped to the side.
Reena.
She was standing face grim as she started at her father.
“If you want to take her, then you have to take me too.”
Mr Roberts stood still for a moment longer than necessary. The with a heavy sigh, he moved, walked to the couch and sat down, without sparing anyone a glance.
“You all sit, and Blaze, I want to hear how all this happened,” he said with a stern expression.
We all breathed in relief as we took a seat, leaving Blaze standing in the center alone, facing all of us.
Blaze cleared his throat before he started narrating all that happened, but smartly he omitted the fact that Reena and I did something before the contamination happened.
“So you’re telling me she took care of Reena all night by herself, so she accidentally slept beside her and then got contaminated the next day?” Mr. Robert asked as he darted his gaze around.
“Yes, Dad. Thalia was not at fault. It was our carelessness,” Milo muttered, holding Mr. Robert’s gaze.
“We are ready to face the consequences with her,” Jax suddenly cut in with a firm voice. My eyes shifted to Jax.
Then Reena walked up to their father. She sat beside him and rested her head on his shoulder.
“It was me, Dad. I should be the one to take the blame. I made Thalia who she was today,” Reena said in a low voice.
Then she raised her face, staring at Mr. Robert. “If I h…had not forced her that n…night,” she stammered as tears dropped from her eyes. I don't care if Reena was acting right now but… I felt tears stream down my eyes.
Since minutes ago, I had not even tried to say anything. They did all the talking. All the defending. Every fucking thing. They were ready to stand for me.
Father’s shoulder slumped as he stared at all of us. “You know this is beyond my power, right?” he said slowly as he rubbed his forehead.
They all sighed because it now involved the council, and whatever the council decided is the final say.
“Come here, Thalia,” he whispered as he waved for me to come to him.
I walked slowly to where he sat, then he patted the space on his other side for me to sit.
I sat gently, then he turned. “Have you told your mother about this?” he asked in a calm voice.
Unable to form words, I just shook my head. He sighed as he pulled my hand into his.
“It was my fault. If I had not brought you to this house, this wouldn’t have happened to you,” he said as he stared into my eyes with a sorry gaze.
My eyes clouded with tears immediately, then I felt him pull me into a slight hug.
“I’m sorry, Thalia. I promised to walk this journey with you,” he said as he patted my back.
Tears gushed from my eyes. I hadn’t even tried to defend myself, but he understood me and now he is willing to face the consequences for my own carelessness.
The room remained silent until I cried to my satisfaction. Then I pulled away gently from his embrace.
“Do you feel better now?” he asked, staring at me.
I twisted my fingers in my hand. “I feel better now,” I whispered before smiling at him.
Mr. Robert just smiled back at me before he spoke again.
“What were the changes you felt? I want you to tell me everything,” he said, and it seemed like he was no longer as mad as earlier.
I swallowed as my gaze shifted to the boys, asking with my eyes if it was okay to tell him the information we had gathered so far. They all just nodded at me, urging me to tell him.
I returned my gaze to Mr. Robert. I held my breath.
“I’m half werewolf,” I blurted with my eyes snapping to my fingers.
“You’re half wolf?” he asked as I raised my head to see his mouth hanging open. Then he added, “Does that mean you’re a hybrid?” he asked, holding my gaze.
I frowned, staring at him. What did a hybrid mean? “I don’t un…”
“Yes, Father, she is a hybrid,” Blaze cut me off. My eyes darted to him.
But deep within, I don’t even know what a hybrid meant. I think I would have to research what that meant.
“Oh, okay, that’s cool.” Mr. Robert looked at me with admiration.
Well, I didn’t blame him. From what I knew, it had been hard for someone to become a werewolf unless both parties mated under the full moon.
Speaking of the full moon, ever since the surge had begun, the full moon had not appeared.
“But…” Blaze suddenly said, making Mr. Robert glance at him.
“We are not sure if she is still human,” Blaze said calmly.
Mr. Robert frowned. “What do you mean you’re not sure if she is a human?” he questioned, staring at Blaze
“Wasn’t a hybrid half human and half werewolf?” Mr. Robert asked as he shifted his gaze to all of us.
The information quickly sank in. So that meant I was half werewolf and half what we had been looking for, I bit my lips in understanding.
“Pops, relax. It's just…,” Milo said with a sigh. “We found a mysterious mark on her nape,” Milo blurted as he stood and walked to where we were.
My stepfather watched with wide eyes. He quickly turned and faced me. “Can I see the mark?” he asked with a calm voice, even though his expression was far from calm.
I exhaled heavily, pulled my hair up, then turned my back so he could have a better look.
He suddenly stood, pointing his finger at my back. “S…she…” he stammered, then bent again to take a better look. He blinked hard as he pulled away, he paused with a frown on his face.
“Dad,” Milo called gently when Mr. Robert went mute while standing for a whole minute.
Mr. Robert closed his eyes briefly. “How did you know that she was a werewolf?” he asked in a low voice.
We all stared at each other because it seemed like this was another big explanation we had to give.
Blaze stood and stared at Milo. “Go and bring the book,” he uttered. Immediately, Milo turned and walked out.
“Which book are you talking about?” Mr. Robert asked as he rested his hand on his head.
Everyone kept quiet because the forbidden book was a taboo topic. No one was meant to touch or talk about it.
Second's later,
Milo rushed into the room, breathing hard and heavy as his hand trembled slightly. “The book. I can’t f..find it,” he stuttered as he ran his hand through his hair.
Everyone froze as they stared at Milo, telling him with their eyes that if this was a prank, he should stop it. But with that expression, he was far from joking.
“Can someone explain to me what’s going on?” Mr. Robert said as he stared at our faces. “Which book is that?” he asked as his voice grew louder.
We all clamped our lips shut because how did we tell him we stole the forbidden book and now it had been stolen from us?
Then, I saw Blaze walk forward slowly. Even though he looked calm, I could see the frown between his brows.
He stood in front of Mr Robert. “We stole the forbidden book,” Blaze blurted with a calm voice.
Immediately those words left his lips, everywhere went into a pin-drop silence, followed by the sound of a harsh slap landing across Blaze’s cheek.
My body froze as I held my breath. This was the first time I saw my stepfather this angry to the point of hitting someone.
“You did what?!” Mr. Robert barked with a clenched jaw. Everyone stood back, no one dared to talk.
Suddenly Reena stood. “I think I know who stole it…” she said, staring at us
with a knowing glance.
My brow furrowed. She didn’t even have to say it. I knew for a fact we all understood what she meant.
Savena stole the book!
