Chapter 5
Henry snapped on his leather wristwatch and snag his car keys off bedside table. He loves his privacy, that's why he did not employ any house staff, only a housekeeper that comes in the morning and leaves in the evening before he gets back from work. She cleans cooks and stock his pantry once the groceries are going down. His little brother, Leonard sometimes calls him weird and crazy but he likes it that way.
His women do not sleep over, this is his own sanctuary, despite having houses in different States, where his company branches are, he loves his house in Abuja the most. He readjust his tie, before sauntering out of his bedroom, to his garage. He always arrives early to work, being the CEO did not make any difference, he wonder if his house guest is up already, as he drove out of the garage; he was surprised to find the object of his thought waiting for him outside.
He had to accept that, he was impressed to see her dressed and ready for work. He unlock the door for her to come in. "Good morning" he drawled.
"Good morning Sir" She replied, glad to know she is the one who put that surprised look on his face, Thank God for the alarm and to Martha as well, who told her that the boss comes to work early, she would have still been sleeping. She knew he is shocked to see her ready and waiting but he will not acknowledge it.
"Thank you for dinner Sir" She said as they drove out of the Estate.
"You are welcome, your house will be stocked with groceries today" he told her.
"I am grateful, but I don't really mind doing the grocery shopping for myself, besides you have done too much for me already" She whispered. She is massively in his debt, a position she did not like so much with His attitude.
"It's good you said that because it's not a permanent arrangement. It's just for you to get your feet firmly planted, you will be paying and doing your own shopping soon. he answered.
"Oh, alright Sir."
The car came to a crawl at the office building, he parked in his slot drive, Kezia shuffled out of his car, utter her thanks, and left him to lock his car. Kezia promptly rearranged and cleaned her workstation, before settling down to work on the information Martha was having trouble with the previous day, that she did not finish. She raised her head from the computer to see Henry walking into his office.
Martha arrived fifteen minutes later, Kezia was so happy to see her, she showed her the file she was working on, and Martha was really impressed to see the progress she had made in retrieving the new client list that got deleted unknowingly by Martha, in their data base.
"Wow, Kezia, you are really good at this, where did you learn how to use the computer like this! Because I was planning to call one of our Tech guys this morning to help me out with it, you have saved me a whole lot of stress and having to answer query from the boss" this software you are using is really cool, it saves time" she confided to her.
"Well I did a six month training, way back in school. I guess my certification paid off, I didn't even know I will now end up working for an IT firm" Kezia explained.
"Interesting, am sure our boss will be impressed Martha added.
"I am not sure about that, besides he didn't know I have some knowledge in Computer software." She mutters.
"It will not be for long when he will find out." The elderly woman told her, before sashaying to her sit. The shrill ring of the intercom break the comfortable silence, Martha answered it, and listen raptly and dropped the receiver after.
"You my dear is a life saver. Imagine he needs an information from the document you are working on" Martha said, as she forward the information Henry needs to him by mail.
"I am happy to help".
IT was Martha that reminded her, that it lunch time, but she remembered how annoyed Henry was the previous day, when she went for break, Kezia quietly decline.
You can go, I will just nibble on the chips I have with me"
"You have being working all morning, why don't you eat good food, instead of snack? Martha suspect there is something wrong. "What's the matter, Kezia?"
"Well the truth is, I don't want to annoy him, you see how he was yesterday, please just go" she pleaded.
"But it's your lunch break young lady, and I still don't understand what happened between you yesterday, that made him to flare up like that, of course he will not tell you not to go out for lunch.
"Don't worry really, I will be fine"
"Fine, if you insist, I will get something for you, on my way back." Martha promise her, before leaving reluctantly.
Martha could not fathom Henry's attitude, her young boss does not act all cranky like this. She wondered if there is more to their relationship than they let on, as she strolls to the cafeteria.
Kezia, nibbled on her chip and continue with her work. The intercom boozed, and when she answered it, it was from the reception area, apparently the boss lunch date has arrived, and she quickly patched the call through to his office. Here she is munching on chips, but apparently, he can go on lunch dates, she fumes, muttering under her breathe. She watched as a tall, beautiful lady breezed in, Kezia could not help but stare at her, she is classy, and exactly the type of the prince will always go for.
"Good afternoon, I have an appointment with your boss" she declares, flipping her long weave, from her face.
"I'm sure he is" Henry stepped out of his office. Glancing at him, she felt her heart flip over—he was intensely sexy, in his three-piece dark suit, a smooth-fitting waistcoat over his white shirt.
"I was just on my way down to you" Henry said, walking up to the snotty lady.
"Oh sugar, I was missing you already" she pouted, has she run her hands all over him, Henry smoothly, hold her wandering hands before turning to tell Kezia that he is going out on a lunch date with her.
Kezia, watch them leave, she rolled her eyes, "oh sugar, I was missing you already" she mimicked, Henry's lady friend. "Such a phony" she snorts. Her stomach growls for real food, but she dare not leave the office especially now that the boss is on his lunch break. Kezia sighed, remembers that she promised to call Naomi once she get settled and she hasn't.
She brought out her cell phone and dialed her number, Naomi answered on the first ring. "See who decides to call after all" Naomi said.
"I am sorry, I was busy, please don't be mad"
"Fine, only on one condition, let's hangout this evening, that way you will know where I live, and no excuses this time."
"Alright I will come, just tell me how I will get to your place, from work"
"Don't worry I will order uber for you,
Kezia smiled as she ends the call, now all she needs to do is just to let Henry know, hopefully she would have had enough practice of how to tell him by the time he gets back.
Martha came back with snacks for her like she promised, and she nimble on them slowly. Henry came back forty-five minutes later, more tensed than ever. One look in her direction, as he came in, Kezia new trouble is brewing, the meat pie she was chewing silently, seems to be stuck inside her throat. It like she now have a sensor, especially when he is around.
"Why are you eating here, when we have cafeteria?"
"I" she stutters "Just hold your explanation, and get back to work" he bite back, cutting her off.
"Martha, make arrangement for dinner, for two at my favorite restaurant this evening" he demanded, as he stormed into his office.
She stares at his retreating forming, the snack forgotten. Why is he angry now? Would she ever satisfy him? Guess his lunch date didn't go well? Now he is planning on going on dinner date tonight with another lady perhaps.
Martha finally accept that something is definitely up with the two, she promptly make the dinner reservation, and she answered the ringing intercom, and went to Henry's office.
"Have you made the reservation?" He asked.
"Yes, I have Sir"
"Good, tell Kezia, that it’s one of the drivers that will take her home, and she leave with you, when you are going, he instructed.
Martha stared at him, trying to figure out what is going on in the Prince Head. It obvious to anybody that something is eating at especially when it comes to Kezia, why did he even give her the job in the first place?
"Martha!"
"Oh am sorry, you say?" Jolting out of her thought.
"Is everything alright, have been calling you, but you just stood there, you know I hired Kezia, to help you out here, not for her to just sit there, eating" he snapped.
Martha sighed, "I know, and I'm not over working myself, speaking of Kezia, that lady is really trying, I just don't know why you don't like her, she didn't go for lunch break because she was afraid of making you angry. I was the one that brought that snacks for her" she explained.
"Of course I don't hate her!" He said indignantly. "If I do, I won't give her a job, Martha you are seeing things." Dismissing the matter.
