Chapter 56 We Are Engaged

Eric reached out and gave my back a gentle pat, saying, "You know, I've met your mom before."

I paused for a second, not really paying much attention to what Eric said.

Worn out from the day's events, I lay down and slowly closed my eyes.

Eric gently pulled the blanket over us and held me close. Just before I drifted off, he whispered, "Our marriage was arranged by your parents. Who does Willie think he is?"

His words sent a chill down my spine.

I wanted to open my eyes to see what was going on, but I was just too tired.

When I woke up again, Eric was propped up on his arm, staring at me intently.

That look in his eyes made me shiver. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Eric asked, "Did you have a dream last night?"

We spoke at the same time. Eric immediately grabbed my hand, looking tense.

Why would he pose such a question to me? Truthfully, I was so fatigued last night that I didn't dream at all.

I glanced at him and nonchalantly shook my head, "Nope, when I'm beside you, nightmares don't stand a chance."

As long as I was with Eric, nothing bad could touch me.

Hearing this, Eric seemed a bit disappointed.

He looked away, his face stiffening a bit, and the little bit of hope he had vanished completely.

Seeing his reaction, I was confused.

Wasn't it good not to have nightmares? Why did Eric look so disappointed? Could he know something about the dreams and be worried about me? But why did it seem so strange?

Eric fell silent for a moment before rising from the bed. Turning away from me, he softly uttered, "If nightmares haunt you once more, remember to confide in me. Together, we can swiftly tackle any challenge that arises."

I nodded but couldn't help but ask, "Why are you so concerned about my nightmares? Is there something in them?"

Eric paused and quickly put on his clothes. "No, just get ready."

I got out of bed, still feeling puzzled. "Then what did you mean by that question earlier?"

Eric said, "Ask again, and you won't be going out today."

After he left, my phone started ringing again.

There was a call last night, but it was too noisy, so I hung up.

Now, looking at the missed calls and the trending topics on my social media, I was stunned.

The cemetery incident had been exposed.

Countless people online were condemning the grave robber, and even the cemetery staff had issued a statement.

Everyone insisted that they should deal with this swiftly and catch the culprit.

Aaron's fans were crying and demanding answers from the authorities.

Everyone was calling me heartless. Doing such a thing was indeed heartless. But it wasn't my intention!

I turned off my phone, quickly got ready, and went downstairs.

Amelia was acting so strangely; she must know where Aaron's ashes were.

If I could get the urn quickly, maybe this whole thing could be resolved soon.

In the dining room, Jonathan and Eric were leisurely drinking tea.

Seeing me, Jonathan greeted me, "Have a cup of tea before you go out. It's raining outside. Don't make the toxins in your body worse."

I quickly walked over and drank a cup of tea.

The tea warmed me up, making me feel a lot better.

Jonathan nodded in satisfaction and headed to the kitchen.

Eric slowly put down his teacup and gave me an indifferent glance. "Let's go."

I looked at Eric and asked slowly, "Are you planning to go out with me?"

He tilted his head, staring at me like I was an idiot. "Or wait for some fool to get eaten?"

His caring words always came out wrong. I couldn't understand Eric's thoughts, but I still felt comforted by his words.

With him by my side, I felt completely safe.

After getting ready, we headed to the school.

Following Amelia's daily routine, I managed to catch her in a familiar spot.

The moment she saw us, Amelia was visibly frightened.

"Emily, are you trying to scare me to death?" Amelia clutched her chest, her words stumbling out in fear.

I glanced at her, rolled up my sleeves, and dragged her to the car.

With that, Eric locked the car. Our conversation remained private, shielded from any prying ears outside.

Once Amelia calmed down, I stared at her seriously. "Where are Aaron's ashes? Hurry up and hand them over. The internet is in an uproar, and if I don't resolve this soon, I'm done for."

If I got caught, how would I explain this?

Amelia appeared baffled, her eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you out of your mind, or am I missing something here? How on earth would I end up with Aaron's missing ashes? I can't even identify half the celebrities, let alone someone as unknown as him."

I grabbed her hand, my face serious. "How is it impossible? When we met yesterday, you were crying hysterically, saying he wanted you to be his bride and that you wanted to kill him. And you were the one who suggested I dig up the grave. Now you're shirking responsibility?"

I glared at her, feeling utterly frustrated.

Amelia's eyes widened, looking even more stunned. "No way, could I really say something like that?"

"Do you think I made this up to trick you?" My expression remained unchanged, clearly not joking.

Seeing my serious face, Amelia became even more distressed.

"Impossible, I had my period recently, and my stomach was killing me. I slept in the dorm all day yesterday, and Thea brought me hot porridge. I couldn't have gone out. But I did have some fragmented dreams, which sound a lot like what you're describing."

I tensed up and immediately leaned in. "What dream? Tell me about it."

Amelia pouted and slowly explained, "Well, I remember meeting you, but I can't recall exactly what we talked about. It felt like we had some sort of conflict. Overall, it was a very strange dream."

Her words made me even more certain that something was wrong.

This wasn't just a dream; it sounded more like sleepwalking.

"How did you feel when you woke up?" I quickly asked.

"Just sore all over, like I ran a marathon." She rubbed her neck, looking unwell.

Could it be that she was also being controlled, saying those things in her sleep and being marked like me?

Thinking of this, my face turned pale.

Willie said that if the mark wasn't dealt with, one could be controlled forever. If Amelia was also being controlled, wasn't she in more danger than me?

I felt a pressing need to get to the bottom of this.
