Chapter 19
A wave of relief washed over Elena's face as she hungrily sunk her teeth into the bread, savoring it's taste. In comparison to all the meals she had consumed over the span of eighteen years, this warm loaf of bread was by far the tastiest.
After she concluded the meal, she cleared her throat and then took a closer look at the knight from her kingdom.
"Is something the matter?" He asked, painfully aware that the young woman's piercing gaze was fixed on his body, his face in particular.
"Yes. Pardon me for saying this, but I will need some concrete proof that you're not my enemy." Said Elena, only after she had eaten the food he snuck to her.
"I understand, considering all you've been through, it's only natural that I confirm my identity." He responded, digging his fingers into his pocket. With a satisfied grin, he dangled a sapphire necklace before Elena's eyes, providing his proof.
"This necklace is my mother's! How on Earth did you get your hands on it?" She questioned, with wide eyed shock, after all it was the Queen's favorite jewel. If he was going to steal it, then he would have to cut off her mother's neck to do so.
He pressed it gently into her hands, to allow her feel it's authenticity. "Her Highness gave it to me as proof to show you once I arrive at Reeves. The king doesn't know about this rescue mission, which is why, her Highness could dispatch me alone." He informed her, painting a picture of the situation.
"You mean to say that his majesty is aware that I'm held hostage? But he still hasn't sent any troops to rescue me?" Elena's high pitched voice demanded in disbelief.
He looked away from her piercing gaze, "yes princess. The queen fears that the members of the clover coalition have plans to take your life." He told her, adding fuel to the brimming fire.
"Take my life?" She gasped and covered her mouth, her heart pounding with every word that came out of the handsome stranger's mouth. "For what reason would he want me dead?" Elena buried her face in her palms, unable to bear the shock.
Harriet whom she trusted the most had betrayed her, and now her step father, along with the other kings all wanted her dead. Things were moving too fast and it caused Elena a heavy migraine.
"Though the queen didn't give me much information, I believe it had something to do with the blue moon witch." He announced in a humble manner, with both hands behind his back.
Elena's heart skipped a beat at the mention of the title she had gotten sick and tired of hearing. She raised up her teary eyes and frowned in perplexity.
"I don't fully understand what connection you have to this witch, but she's the reason why his highness wants you dead. For fear of your life, the queen has asked me to rescue you from right underneath the demon's nose."
Elena's fingers curled up into a tensed fist, the possiblity of her being the blue moon witch continued to become more likely than ever. She figured that if she truly was a witch, then it made her for her stepfather to want her dead.
"But, this place is protected by a barrier, and these chains are restricting me from ever leaving. If I try anything else, he might really take my life." She explained, hugging her knees, scared of Alixandre's wrath.
"Fear not. Unlike the last time, I've come up with a full proof plan to escape this place, but I'll need some more time." He told her, his gentle green eyes full of gleam and adoration.
Elena felt his hot share and diverted her gaze from him, her pale cheeks flushed red at the fine piece of man standing in the tower. He was everything she read and hoped for in the stories, a sharp contrast to the appalling brute, who placed a collar around her neck.
"It's fine, I think I can manage myself for the time being." She responded, wanting to sound dependable to him. "But please, don't take too long." The princess genuinely missed the warm air and beautiful scenery in her kingdom.
"Thank you princess, and don't worry about food and water, I will make certain that you do not starve to death in this tower." He lowered his head in courtesy, and turned sharply to take his leave.
Once he had left, the princess let out a heavy sigh and relaxed her shoulders, this was the first piece of good news she had received ever since she stepped foot into Reeves.
"I was so excited that I forgot to ask for his name!" She exclaimed, pinching her cheeks, with eyes closed in content.
A sentiment that didn't last very long, because only moments after he had left, another august guest arrived. Only this time, he used his special entrance which was the tower window, drawing all of Elena's attention to the icy cold breeze that followed him.
Alixandre perched on the window, baring his majestic black wings on full display, blocking the sunlight from entering the room. He locked his gaze on the princess, who had enough strength left in her, to sit up straight.
As if on cue, the princess swiftly nestled under the sheets, avoiding the terrifying man, whose black hair rested at his elbow.
"You still haven't done what I asked, are you deliberately testing my patience?" The king demanded, setting foot into the tower, putting away his black wings.
Elena scoffed at his tone, and kept mute, the haughty young girl had almost forgotten that before anything else, she was a princess. In her opinion, he had no right to treat her in such a defamatory manner.
Alixandre narrowed his eyes at her defiant attitude, he dashed for the bed with the intention to rip off the blanket and punish his slave.
But, she spoke a second before he could lay his hands on her.
"What are you going to do? Kill me? Don't worry too much, just give it a day or two more, and I'll no longer be a thorn at your side." Elena spat out, meaning one thing, but suggesting another.
"Whoever said anything about killing you?" He lowered his body to meet hers, and whispered into the part he assumed was her ear.
"I know many a ways, to make you tap out...which is why I'm warning you now not to test me." While he spoke, his hands snaked underneath the blanket and rested on her right breast.
Before the princess could figure out his intentions, he firmly squeezed her breast then flicked her nipple through the cloth! His free hand instinctively reached into his shirt, a wide grin plastered on his face. However, the princess's reaction placed a damper on his plans.
"Ngh!" She groaned in pain, his grip on her skin was hard enough to force tears to well up in her eyes.
The princess jolted out of her lying position and used all of the strength left in her to push him away, punching furiously at his broad shoulders!
"Don't you ever touch me again! You disgust me! Demon!" The last word was uttered with so much spite, that her voice bounced across the tower walls.
Alixandre, whose hand was still latched unto her breast gritted his teeth in anger at her abusive words and retracted his grip, a repulsive expression embedded on his face.
"Ah yes, I am a demon, and I can be very ruthless when I want to." He told her, caging her chin in his hands, his sharp fingernails scratching at her skin.
"By the time I get back, you must have already revived that plant, or else I'll lead my army to that country of yours and kill every last person you hold dear." Alixandre threatened, with no emotions in his eyes.
Her glinted at him, her mouth hung open in fear of his threat, the gory image of blood stained flowers and dead corpses flashed across her eyes. The repulsive sight of a sword jabbed in the middle of her mother's chest sent a cold shiver down her spine.
"Don't do it...please." she begged, latching unto the black shirt he had on, "not my mother." Tears rolled down her cheeks as she abandoned all of her pride for the sake of her helpless mother.
The only real family she had left.
Alixandre vigorously shook off her grip and raised his nose to her, "then don't play with me any longer. I'll be back again in two days time, make sure you're still alive by then." He said, giving Elena another chance.
He walked away from her, ignoring the pitiful expression planted on her face, he maintained his usual stoic expression, unfazed by a woman's tears.
The king stepped unto the window, then jumped out with no fear at all! He effortlessly spread out his wings while in the air, and descended the tower, faster than any bird could.
As he descended the many floors of the tower, Alixandre reached into his shirt, and pulled out the loaf of bread he had brought with him.
"Tch." He hissed, Elena's harsh words replayed in his mind, without thinking twice, he tossed the bread aside not caring where it landed.
