The Secret Weapon
The minutes stretched into what felt like hours as Scarlet and Tucker stood outside the imposing building that housed Wyatt’s empire. It loomed before them, a gleaming monolith of wealth and power. Every inch of the structure screamed dominance glass and steel, perfectly polished, perfectly constructed, built to inspire awe, fear, and submission. Scarlet felt the weight of it pressing down on her chest, the oppressive sense of power that had consumed her life for so long. But today, she wasn’t just here as a victim. She was here to fight back.
She glanced at Tucker beside her, his jaw clenched, his eyes focused, not on the building, but on the battle ahead. He hadn’t spoken much during the drive over, and she could feel the tension between them, the weight of everything unsaid, hanging like a thick fog. They were close so close to ending this and yet, there was a palpable distance between them, a divide that neither of them seemed ready to cross.
“What happens after this?” Scarlet whispered, more to herself than to him. She wasn’t sure what she expected, but she knew that nothing would ever be the same once they walked through those doors.
Tucker turned to her, his eyes dark and unreadable. “After this, we make sure Wyatt doesn’t walk out of here the same way he came in. We make sure he pays for everything he’s done.”
Her heart hammered in her chest, and she forced herself to take a deep breath, steadying herself. “And us?” she asked quietly, her voice shaky despite her best efforts to keep it calm. “What happens to us when this is over?”
For a long moment, Tucker didn’t answer. He simply stared at her, his expression unreadable. Then, in a voice that was barely above a whisper, he spoke. “I don’t know. But I’ll make sure you’re safe.”
The words hit her like a tidal wave, crashing over her, sweeping away any remnants of doubt. She couldn’t afford to think about what might happen after. Not yet. Not until Wyatt was defeated. But there was one thing she knew for certain: when this was over, everything would change. Whether they were standing together or apart, the world would never be the same.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching from behind. She turned to find Bernard walking toward them, his face grim, but his eyes sharp with determination. He held something in his hand an envelope, thick with papers.
“You’re both here,” Bernard said, his voice low, controlled. “Good. We’re ready.”
Tucker stepped forward, his brow furrowing slightly. “What’s that?” he asked, eyeing the envelope.
Bernard handed it over without hesitation. “This is the missing piece,” he said, his voice quiet but urgent. “I got it just in time.”
Scarlet took the envelope from him, feeling the weight of it in her hands. Her pulse quickened as she opened it and pulled out the papers inside. She skimmed through them quickly, her eyes widening as she processed what she was seeing.
“It’s a signed confession,” she said breathlessly, her heart skipping a beat. “Wyatt’s admission of guilt in my father’s death.”
Bernard nodded, his eyes flicking nervously toward the entrance of the building. “This is it. With this, we have everything we need to expose him. It’s the final nail in his coffin. Once it’s out there, there’s no coming back for him.”
Scarlet’s breath caught in her throat as the weight of the situation settled over her. This was it. The final move. The evidence they needed to bring Wyatt to his knees was right in front of her, and all she had to do was deliver it. Her heart raced, and for a moment, she felt dizzy. They had come so far, but it was still too risky. The moment they handed this over, there would be no turning back. Wyatt would stop at nothing to protect himself, to destroy anyone who dared to defy him.
“What if he tries to stop us?” Scarlet whispered, her voice shaking with the weight of the question. “What if he has a way to destroy this evidence, to turn it all against us?”
Bernard’s eyes flicked nervously, but he kept his composure. “He won’t be able to. This document was sent to a secure location, a backup. It’s already been stored with multiple sources. No matter what happens, it will be made public.”
Tucker glanced at the building in front of them, his expression hardening. “Then let’s get it over with. We do this now, or we never do it.”
Scarlet’s heart pounded as she felt the full weight of the moment. They were so close. The plan they had worked on for so long was about to unfold. She wasn’t sure what would happen after they handed over the evidence, after they exposed Wyatt’s crimes for the world to see. But one thing was certain: they were no longer victims. They were warriors. And today, they would fight for everything they had lost.
With one last glance at Bernard, and then at Tucker, she nodded. “Let’s do it.”
