Chapter 68: Before I Forget

"I want to know what you need, so I can help out in fixing your office." He kept a stern expression. I was stunned since he opted to be of help. I shook my head. Since our last conversation, I have been missing in action, staying protected in my own space. I had nothing to say to him. I felt like a goof being the object if his decisions and the danger surrounding him. I couldn't bear it for a second longer.

"You don't have to. I can get what I need. I just need a quiet space to work that's all." I dismissed him. He stood still, unable to peel his eyes off me. My eye wandered into the room that was set up for me , avoiding his gaze. I haven't been able to sleep and I kept thinking of the earlier times when we were going through a rough patch. Dante walked further as the image of him in the past still stamped in my memory. He rushed his air back in one sweep.
"You told me you have a project to work on at the office and I went through the trouble of fixing your office your you. Maybe you might need some space to work that's all. The least you can do Tesoro, is look at me." I pushed myself backwards as he took a step towards me. He size me up with one glance, sweeping his head back in frustration. His hands snaked around my waist, pulling me into a closet embrace. I felt his breath, on my skin. My pulse ran faster, as he buried his head in my neck. "You smell good. You look edible, right now." I couldn't deny that I felt the same way. His touch still sent all my hormones on a frenzy, despite being angry with him, I couldn't resist just one touch. Before I melted into the bed next, I pulled away from him.

"Don't tell me, you respected my wish of having a home office so quick because you are trying to bribe me. Now telling me how edible I look isn't going to help plead your case." I have been in way since Bianca had been in this house I could hear her footsteps louder than the nightmares I have begin to have. It was more scary that she was more of a danger to me than any kind of poison. Any kind of danger that Dante could actually give me. "You patronizing isn't going to make me feel safe when that bitch is lying in the room down the hallway."

"I know. But you remember, we had a plan. I will not key any harm come to you, all you have to do is trust me."

I shook my head, my mind was having a feast going back to the background thoughts I have had for a while. "When I was attacked at the office, I felt helpless. The loud gun and everything. I didn't know how to defend myself. I don't want to feel that helpless anymore."
His eyes narrowed, sinking his fingers deeper into his pockets. He leaned from across me against the wall. "What are you saying?"

I rolled my eyes. "Don't tell me you don't know what I am talking about. I want you to teach me how to defend myself both in combat and with a gun. Lucia did a pretty good job untill, I left and Rafael happened. I want to to do this for me. Don't discourage me if you know you won't be willing to teach me."

"Why? Don't give me that crap about being helpless in a shoot out. It's not the first time, you have a gun pointed at you and when you get a sight of a gun, your body runs cold." I gulped, avoiding his gaze again, nervous. I didn't bother thinking about how he knew about that? Was I that predictable?

"Nonna made an impression that women of made men just stay docile behind their man. But I don't want to be that way. If asking questions about the Mafia was the quickest way to get killed then the least I could do is fight alongside you. At least until there's no longer a threat to be scared over." Nonna being quiet and calm, I loved how she stood against her husband when I was being disrespected. I knew there was more to her that meets the eye but being docile wasn't in my nature. If people can mess with Dante, I wanted them to know that they couldn't mess with me, no matter how hard they try.

A smirk formed on the corner of his lips." I can see Nonna had made an impression. It's good. If that's the path you've chosen, I will support you. Meet me downstairs in fifteen. Wear something casual."

"Where are we going to?" I asked a bit curious, he shrugged, leaving the room with just my questions hovering in the air. I sighed. Dante was always a man filled with secrets but my greatest fear of being the receiving end if those secrets. The smirk on his face lingered on my memory for the longest time. I strolled into my closet, running my hands through all my outfits thinking of what might be suitable to wear. It wasn't like a formal event but after every sigh, I picked a tank top, jean and a green blazer. Few minutes, after wearing a light makeup, I wrapped my head in a bun, flew through the stairs to the garage. Dante dressed a bit too formally, leaned his legs against each other, scrolling through his phone with one hand, the other was sinking in his pocket.

"I thought you said something casual?" I arched my eyebrows, as I peered at him for the umpteenth time. He pushed himself forward from the car, he glanced down at me. I felt his index finger push my face up as I gulped just meeting his eyes.
"You look edible." He but his bottom lips. "I could eat you right now." His voice was a bit low, almost a whisper.

"You are deflecting Dante," my eyes peeled off his figure which was directly facing me. I didn't know how much I would be able to control myself, if he kept up with his glances just a bit further. I was still very pissed at him.

"I have a meeting, afterwards. Need to look the part. But if you want me to take the shirt off, I would be happy to." I coughed, shifting away from his electrifying touch. He chuckled as he slide the door opened of the range Rover tinted car.

"You can't run forever, Tesoro." He winked. I couldn't get his smile out of my mind as we drove out of the villa.
