Chapter 296 - The Trap of Light

The war hall of Valthorya was shrouded in an unsettling twilight. Holographic maps floated in the air, outlining the empire's borders and the infiltration routes of Sergio's allies. Lyra, Ryan, and Alara were gathered, strategizing the plan that could decide everyone's fate.

— If we're going to use Lyra as bait, we need to ensure her absolute safety — Alara said, her eyes fixed on the projections.

— I agree — Ryan replied, his voice firm but tinged with concern. — I can't allow anything to happen to her.

Lyra nodded, determined. — I'm ready to do whatever it takes. If that means facing Sergio head-on, then so be it.

The plan was audacious: Lyra would pretend to surrender to Sergio, luring him to a pre-selected location where an ambush would be laid. Alara would coordinate the loyal forces while Ryan would lead the final offensive.

As the details were discussed, a silent tension hung in the air. They all knew the risks involved, but they also understood it was their only chance to stop Sergio before he consolidated his power.

With the plan set, Lyra retreated to her quarters to prepare for the role she would play. Ryan followed her, wanting to spend a last moment with her before the mission.

— Are you sure about this? — he asked, holding her hands.

— I am — Lyra replied, looking into his eyes. — I trust you, Ryan. Together, we can win.

They embraced, a gesture laden with love and hope. They knew what lay ahead would be difficult, but they were ready to face the challenge side by side.

The air in the room was thick with tension and anticipation.

Ryan paced back and forth, his rhythmic steps on the black stone floor echoing through the space. His hands clenched, his expression dark, as if something within him was about to explode. With each passing moment, the darkness seemed closer to the surface, throbbing beneath his skin like a second heart.

Lyra watched him in silence, sitting on the edge of the bed. There was compassion in her gaze, but also something deeper — a growing flame of power that she herself was still learning to comprehend.

— Ryan — she called softly. — I need to show you something.

He stopped pacing, turning to face her with furrowed brows.

— Now?

— Now — she said firmly. — Maybe this will help you remember who I am… and who we are.

With a delicate gesture, Lyra rose and raised her hand, palm facing the center of the room. Her eyes closed for a brief moment, as if searching within herself for the right spark. When she opened them, a silvery glow filled her irises, and a faint ancient murmur slipped from her lips.

In the air, lines of energy began to form, like veils of light dancing around her. Arcane symbols shimmered in the space, echoing in a forgotten language — the language of the first guardians of Zyara.

Ryan took a step back, incredulous.

— What is this...? — he murmured.

Lyra smiled slightly, a serene glimmer in her eyes.

— It’s ancestral magic. From the lineage of the Moon. My lineage. Our… if you allow it.

She closed her eyes again and, with a broader gesture, invoked a protective circle that formed around them. A warm, pulsating aura enveloped them, as if time had stopped, as if the universe had bent for a moment to that power.

— I learned from the secret books of my mother — she explained. — And from the visions. From the pains and truths that blood reveals.

Ryan was completely astonished. The prince who had faced monsters and wielded energy swords now found himself before something he could not explain with military logic or imperial strategy.

— You... — he began, but the words slipped from his mouth. — You are... beyond everything I imagined.

— And you? — she whispered, walking toward him. — Will you continue to fight against the shadows alone, or will you let me walk by your side, even when everything seems lost?

Ryan felt his breath falter. Her power drew him like an ancient flame, like a beacon in the midst of the storm. But it also challenged him. It was strong, pure, and completely oblivious to the darkness that consumed him from within.

— Lyra... — he murmured, touching her face. — I’m afraid. Afraid of not being worthy of this. Of you. Of all this light.

She pressed her forehead against his, her eyes still shining with the silver of ancestral Moon magic.

— And I’m afraid of losing you to the darkness — she whispered. — But fear doesn’t stop us from loving. It shows us how worth fighting for.

He held her tightly. As if he never wanted to let her go. But even wrapped in that warmth, Ryan felt the contrast between Lyra's power and the chaos growing inside him.

— This could save us — she said, hope in her voice. — But it could also be the key that Sergio wants to take from me. That's why I need you to trust me. And fight by my side.

Ryan nodded slowly. For the first time in days, his eyes seemed more human. Less distorted by pain.

— Teach me — he asked. — I want to understand. I want to free myself from this before it’s too late.

And there, on that silent night, the prince of darkness and the guardian of the Moon began to intertwine their forces — light and shadow, love and war, hope and ruin.

Together.
