Chapter 285 - Shadows and Reflections

The hologram of Sérgio had disappeared, but the weight of his words still hung in the air like a silent threat.

Lyra and Amara stood still for long seconds, absorbing the impact of the enemy's declaration.

Amara was the first to break the silence, rubbing her temples with her fingers as if trying to relieve a growing headache.

"He’s a monster," she murmured. "And he knows exactly how to manipulate us."

Lyra crossed her arms, feeling her heart still racing.

"But why does he look so much like Ryan?"

Amara lifted her gaze, surprised by the question.

"What do you mean?"

Lyra took a deep breath before answering.

"When I saw Sérgio in the projection... it was like I was looking at Ryan. But not just in appearance. There was something in the way he looked, in the way he spoke. The arrogance, the intensity... it was frightening."

Amara fell silent, her eyes analyzing her daughter.

"Do you really believe there’s a connection between them?"

"I know there is," Lyra replied without hesitation. "But what scares me is that sometimes I see that same shadow in Ryan."

**The Dark Side of Ryan**

The confession hung between them like distant thunder.

Amara crossed her arms, reflecting.

"Explain."

Lyra looked away, trying to organize her thoughts.

"When Ryan gets nervous, when he feels threatened... there’s something inside him that awakens. Something dark, powerful. It’s like he’s struggling to control it, but at the same time, he’s getting closer to giving in."

She closed her eyes for a moment, remembering the recent episode in Ryan's office.

"I saw him surrounded by shadows," she continued, her voice lower. "They responded to him as if they were part of him. For a moment, I thought he was going to attack me. But then... he retreated."

Amara frowned.

"Has this never happened before?"

Lyra hesitated.

"He’s always had a strong temper, but... since Sérgio started acting more directly, things have gotten worse. It’s like Sérgio is provoking him, forcing him into that darkness."

Amara looked thoughtful, biting her lower lip.

"That makes sense."

Lyra lifted her gaze.

"What do you mean?"

Amara took a deep breath before continuing.

"Sérgio is a master of manipulation. He doesn’t just destroy physically, Lyra. He destroys psychologically. And if what you’re saying is true... he’s doing this to Ryan now."

Lyra felt a chill.

"He wants to turn Ryan into something he can control?"

Amara nodded.

"Or something he can destroy. Sérgio knows that if Ryan falls, the empire falls with him."

**Common Roots?**

Lyra ran a hand through her hair, feeling suffocated by all the information.

"But why Ryan? Why are he and Sérgio so alike?"

Amara hesitated.

"I’m not exactly sure. But perhaps the answers lie in the royal lineage."

Lyra frowned.

"Are you saying they might be... related?"

Amara shook her head.

"Not exactly. But there are ancient records that speak of an ancestor who possessed a power similar to Sérgio’s. A dark power. The royal lineage did everything it could to erase this part of history, but the blood never forgets."

Lyra felt a shiver.

"Do you think Ryan inherited this power?"

Amara sighed.

"Maybe. But there’s a difference between inheriting something and succumbing to it. Ryan still has a choice."

"But for how long?" Lyra murmured, more to herself than to her mother.

**The Fear of Losing Ryan**

She stepped back a few paces, crossing her arms.

"And if he changes? What if he becomes... like Sérgio?"

The pain in her voice made Amara soften her expression.

"You know him better than anyone, Lyra."

"I used to know him," she corrected. "But lately, he’s been... different."

Amara touched her daughter’s shoulder.

"If there’s anyone who can bring him back, it’s you."

Lyra swallowed hard.

"And what if I’m not strong enough?"

"Then no one will be."

She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to gather strength.

"I love him, Mom. But I’m scared."

Amara nodded.

"True love always comes with fear. But if you give up now... then Sérgio wins."

**An Uncertain Plan**

Lyra opened her eyes, determined.

"Then we need to act. We need to find a way to pull Ryan away from this influence before it’s too late."

Amara nodded.

"And for that, we need information. We need to uncover everything we can about the connection between him and Sérgio."

Lyra took a deep breath.

"Where do we start?"

Amara hesitated.

"There’s a place... an ancient imperial archive. It contains forbidden records, information that was hidden by the royal family."

Lyra raised an eyebrow.

"And how do we know these records still exist?"

Amara smiled slyly.

"Because I hid them."

The shock on Lyra’s face was instantaneous.

"What?!"

"A long time ago, even before you were born, I knew there were dangerous secrets in the history of this empire. I collected everything I could and hid it in a safe place."

Lyra felt a mix of astonishment and admiration.

"And where is this archive?"

Amara narrowed her eyes.

"In the ancient underground fortress of the Imperial House. But retrieving those records won’t be easy."

Lyra crossed her arms.

"Nothing is easy."

Amara smiled.

"Then we better get started."

**A New Challenge**

As the two prepared to leave, Lyra’s communicator emitted a sharp sound.

She glanced at the screen and felt her blood run cold.

It was a new holographic message.

From Sérgio.

She hesitated before opening it.

The face of the enemy appeared in the projection, his eyes shining with satisfaction.

"Lyra," he said, his voice smooth. "I see you have doubts about your beloved Ryan. Perhaps I can help clarify certain truths."

She gritted her teeth.

"What do you want now?"

Sérgio smiled.

"Just to open your eyes."

The projection changed, and Lyra saw something that made her gasp.

Ryan.

But not the Ryan she knew.

The Ryan in the projection had completely black eyes, shadows enveloping his body like a dark cloak. He was in a dark room, his gaze fixed on something Lyra couldn’t see.

Then he spoke.

"There’s no salvation for me, Lyra."

The image dissipated, leaving an eerie silence.

Amara clenched her fists.

"He’s playing with you."

But Lyra was pale, her heart pounding in her chest.

If that image was true...

Then Ryan was already lost.

She needed to find him.

Before it was too late.
