Chapter 48 Between Fury and Desire
POV Scarlett:
“She did, and she glared daggers at me when I asked her to bring the healthy sandwich I made for her. I don’t want her eating junk out there,” Noah, the indecent one, says with a wide smile on his lips.
They love making my life hell inside this company, but I have to give them credit for the concern and care they show me and the baby when we’re at home. What do they want, anyway—drive me insane? At the company they make me furious, but at home they practically worship the ground I walk on. Why do they do this? Isn’t everything I’m going through with pregnancy hormones enough? These brothers want to drive me crazy, that’s for sure. They’re harsh with me at work for no reason, and at home they’re like cute little bunnies. Bipolar much? Maybe—who knows?
I take a step toward Damian’s office when Liam’s voice freezes me in place, my eyes widening.
“Are you sure she’ll want to stay with us? I don’t understand the logic behind this plan of yours.”
“Liam, how many times do I have to explain?”
Plan? What the hell is Liam talking about?
“When Ethan and I came up with the idea, we didn’t plan on telling you or Damian, but after witnessing Scarlett almost massacring our brother earlier, I thought it was better to keep you both in the loop. The four of us want her, so it’s better if we work together—this way she’ll be with us sooner.”
“By making her irritated? I’m worried this could harm her and the baby.” Hearing the concern in Liam’s voice softens my irritation—just a little.
“Liam, that insolent brat wants us.”
Audacious bastard.
“I’m worried about the baby and about her too, but enough denying what all of us want—and we want her.”
Okay, my heart is racing. Do they have any idea what it means for us to be together? I told myself I wouldn’t get involved with them like that. What makes them think I want them? I can’t go through another heartbreak. I won’t survive if someday they look me in the eyes and tell me it was just sex.
“Damian is right, she wants our dicks. That face of hers doesn’t fool me—you should’ve seen how her eyes sparkled when she caught me masturbating,” Noah says, that son of a—
“Miss Monroe?” I jump in place at the hateful voice of Amanda behind me.
I hate that nosy secretary. I’m against female rivalry, but this woman is testing my limits. One day I caught her in Damian’s office sniffing his suit jacket on the back of his chair, and when Damian walked out of the bathroom, he saw the murderous rage in my eyes. And the only thing the asshole did was ask Amanda to leave. She nearly strangled me with her glare as she walked past, and it was a miracle I didn’t strangle Damian afterward. He should’ve been hard on her—not on me.
“Hi, I… I was just about to knock on Mr. Blackwell’s door. Want to go in first?” I stepped aside so she could knock while I tried to compose myself from everything I’d just discovered. I straightened my posture and adjusted the papers in my arms. When I left the file room, I was determined to make Ethan swallow every last sheet—and I still am.
“Mr. Blackwell,” Amanda says in her sugary voice that makes me nauseous. I roll my eyes at the smile she flashes at them.
“Amanda.” Damian greets her. “Miss Monroe.”
I will always be Miss Monroe to him. Would it kill him to call me by my name?
“Yes?” His stupid eyes lock onto mine, and for some reason my cheeks burn.
Shit, I’m embarrassed because the four Blackwell brothers are staring at me—or devouring me? I shouldn’t have listened to that conversation.
“You asked me to let you know if I managed to reach Baby World. I did, and the owner is waiting on line three.”
Baby store? I frown at Damian, who widens his eyes.
“Thank you for handling that quickly.” He avoids my questioning stare.
“Is there anything else I can help you with, sir?” I roll my eyes, not caring about the look the brothers throw at me.
“Yes.” Damian pins his gaze on me. “Close the door when you leave—we’ll have an urgent affection meeting with Miss Monroe.”
I gasp at the filthy look Noah gives me, while Ethan adjusts something in his pants that I definitely don’t want to know about. Liam just stares at me without breaking eye contact.
What the hell do they think they’re going to discuss with me? I don’t recall any damn meeting.
“Anything you need, sir, just call me,” Amanda the helpful says as she walks past me and closes the door behind her.
Damian loosens his tie while looking at me, and I feel my legs weaken when Ethan and Liam do the same. Noah just stares—he wasn’t wearing a tie to begin with. Damian picks up the phone, raising one finger for me to wait. I squeeze the papers in my arms, wanting to escape this room as fast as possible.
“This is Damian Blackwell speaking. I want your best salespeople at my house tomorrow morning. I’ll have the secretary who contacted you give you my address. Thank you.” He hangs up without taking his eyes off me.
I swallow hard, nervous about what’s about to happen in that room. Ethan takes steps toward me, and I cowardly take steps back until my spine hits the door. Ethan stops right in front of me with a half-smile. He turns to his brothers as he speaks, sending shivers all over my body.
“Scarlett plus door equals the best fuck ever.” Then he turns his face back to me. “Reliving memories is good, Scarlett.” He says, catching me off guard as he grabs the back of my neck and crushes his mouth against mine.
Oh, shit—I’m screwed, I thought as I let all the papers fall at my feet.
