Chapter 151 When I Finally Said Everything
POV Maya:
“I don’t cheat, but I can’t say the same about Peter. The bastard was sticking his dick in someone else instead of me.” I vent. “I caught him with another woman, and it wasn’t pretty. We broke up, and I left his house.”
“That son of a bitch. What’s his last name?” Luca asks, fists clenched, and a smile spreads across my lips.
“Dixon. Peter Dixon. He lives in Dallas. I can give you all the information you want later.” I wink at him, and he winks back.
I won’t mind if Luca and Dominic pay him a visit and scare the shit out of him.
I may have forgiven him, but I didn’t forget. And a little adrenaline is good for the heart. I’m sure he’ll thank me later.
“After I left his house, I went to live alone, but it didn’t work out. Things got difficult. I didn’t have enough money to support myself. I didn’t go to college, and I didn’t have a well-paying job.”
The brothers frown, and I take a deep breath.
The truth, Maya.
You said you’d tell everything.
“I have acquired dyslexia. It’s a condition similar to Mikhail’s, the difference is that I wasn’t born with mine.” Everyone looks surprised, except Mikhail, who looks at me with affection. “After my parents made me sign the papers and disappeared, my condition got worse. It was all tied to my psychological state. I couldn’t read or write. After a while, things went back to normal, but I wasn’t interested in studying anything.”
“So what did you live off of?” Sebastian asks, and I shrug.
“I worked at a coffee shop. But I didn’t earn enough to support myself, so I decided to live with a roommate. That’s when I met the only person I can trust with my eyes closed—Taylor Black, my former roommate and best friend.”
“It was through her that I met David Burt. He’s one of her boyfriends. My friend is in a polyamorous relationship with four men—the Collin brothers, Hunter, Gavin, and Sean—and with David, with whom she has a triad relationship that she shares with Sean and David.”
“What?” all five ask at the same time. If this weren’t such a serious topic, I’d tease them about their faces.
“Is David gay?” Dominic asks, and I roll my eyes.
“Bisexual. He dates Tay and Sean, while Tay also dates Hunter and Gavin, Sean’s brothers.”
“What a mess,” Mikhail says, making me laugh.
“Isn’t it? That’s what I always tell them. I’ve been trying to understand the dynamics since she told me.”
I wave my hand, setting my friend’s life aside for later speculation—after we’ve dealt with ourselves.
“I grew very close to her boyfriends, and that’s why I accepted them as my matchmakers. They know my dream and worked hard to help me.”
“Why don’t you hurry up and get to the point?” Dominic asks, almost growling, and I smile.
“Jealous, caveman brute?” I tease.
“Maya, don’t piss me off, damn it.”
“Fine.” I roll my eyes. “On Christmas Eve, David told me a very poorly told story—now I see that—but I believed it and made my choice. He told me that in the town where his parents live, there were five brothers looking for a woman who would accept them, love them equally, and choose to build a family with them.”
“That son of a bitch.”
“Bastard.”
“I’m going to kill him.”
“Calm down. Don’t kill him. I’ll do that after we talk,” I declare, and they get even more irritated.
“Maya, you’re not going to talk to him,” Mikhail says firmly.
Despite still being very hurt by David, I know that at some point I’ll have to talk to him.
“You don’t get to tell me what to do. And don’t start acting like possessive brutes. David is my friend. We’re nothing more than friends.”
The brothers growl, and I give up.
“Back to the incredible story. I came to El Soledad under the pretext of opening my first branch… Wait, I didn’t tell you how I opened my flower shop and how—”
“For the love of God, just get to the fucking end already,” Luca snaps.
“Do you have to be so rude?” I ask, and he snorts.
“You didn’t complain when my thick cock was buried deep in your pussy.”
“You filthy pig.” I throw a piece of bacon at him. “I came here to get close to you, hoping you would choose me as your bride.”
“So you believed the bullshit Burt told you and decided to dive headfirst into this madness?” Dominic asks, and I nod. “You didn’t even know us. What guarantee did you have that we weren’t serial killers who’d kill you at the first chance?”
I make a face because he’s right.
“I know I was irresponsible, but when David told me about the arranged marriage, my eyes lit up, and I knew I had to try.”
The five brothers take a deep breath, and I lock eyes with each of them.
“Now I know it was all a lie from David, and later I’ll need to find out why he lied to me. But I need to know from you.”
I focus on them and ask:
“Is there even the slightest possibility of us having a polyamorous relationship?”
“Maya…” Dominic starts, but Sebastian cuts him off.
“Wait, Dominic. For Maya to understand, she also needs to hear a story,” Sebastian says, and I straighten immediately. His expression is sad, and I don’t like that at all.
“What story?” I ask, my heart racing.
“The reason my brothers and I promised we would never again enter into a relationship with the same woman,” Sebastian replies.
I swallow hard, because it’s clear between the lines that they’ve already shared a woman.
A fierce jealousy grips my heart, twisting my insides.
“Does this reason have a name?” I ask apprehensively.
“Yes,” he answers.
“Scarlett Monroe.”
