Chapter 123 Red Boots, Strawberry Secrets, and the Point of No Return
POV Luca:
She really is a fucking bitch. I look from the damn redhead to the traitor, feeling my rage about to explode. What is Maya doing next to him? Then again, I can’t even blame her for being with him—she’s new in town, she doesn’t know about the feud we have with that miserable bastard Burt. He’s the son of a bitch for taking advantage of her, when she has nothing to do with our rivalry. Maya is innocent. We need to keep her away from Burt, or that asshole will use her somehow.
“Maya, come here!” I growl. I’m way too pissed to be polite.
The bitch looks at David and flashes a little smile I don’t recognize at first, but everything clicks when the traitor kisses her on the cheek. Are they together? Is that why she only got here now and left her dog for us to take care of? The blow is hard, because just days ago she was coming in my brother’s mouth, which makes her obligated to be loyal to us.
“Thank you for the help, Burt,” she says in a seductive voice.
“Call me David,” he says, flashing a smile I want to wipe off his face with my fist.
“Thank you, David.”
Did she sigh?
I glance to the side and see Dominic about to explode. Mikhail and Adrian are wearing disgusted expressions, but it’s the sadness in Sebastian’s eyes that makes me want to put an end to this shit. With hurried steps, I walk over to them and, without any ceremony, grab Maya by the waist, pulling the damn redhead against my chest. I grab the back of her neck, bringing her face to mine, and claim her mouth possessively.
Maya opens her mouth in shock at my attitude, and I take advantage, thrusting my tongue in. The devil doesn’t take long to suck on it eagerly. Fuck you, Burt. I grab her fiery hair, making the slut moan against my lips. The shopping bags she’s holding fall at our feet, and I don’t even care to stop the kiss to pick them up. I slide one hand down to her ass and squeeze it hard. I devour her mouth with the same hunger I have to eat her pussy.
When I pull our lips apart, Maya looks at me, dazed. I shrug as if the kiss was no big deal. Within seconds, I see her expression change. I take a step back, not wanting to be so close. Her face is doing something to me… Why do her eyes look like they’re on fire? Is she angry?
“Very nice, you bossy caveman,” she snaps at me.
“Wouldn’t it be better if you pulled your dick out and pissed in a circle around me? Men really are a species of inflated egos, and all the bullshit I hate,” she says, stepping away. “And you’d better pick up the bags you made me drop.”
“Maya,” I call, but she doesn’t spare me a second glance.
“Unbelievable. I meet a nice guy and what happens? This caveman grabs me possessively. Does he think he owns me? Not a chance,” she mutters.
“I’m leaving,” the traitor says, and only now do I remember he’s still here.
“And don’t ever come near her again,” I order.
The son of a bitch gets into his car laughing. What the fuck is so funny? Not wanting to think about what the next shitstorm will be, I bend down and pick up Maya’s bags. As I pass by my brothers, they’re all wearing stupid smiles. The bastards won’t say it, but I know they liked my attitude.
This will keep Burt away—for now.
She’s pissed. Maya doesn’t look at me, let alone talk to me. Trying to make things better, I made a point of preparing a snack for her. I don’t know if she ate it, and to avoid being a complete idiot, I’m not going to say anything in case she didn’t. Maya seems really upset about my attitude, but what did she expect? I’m not going to accept her going out with that traitor, and every time she even considers doing that, I’ll grab her and kiss her mouth.
“Here’s your boot.” Maya appears in the living room, tossing a box into my lap.
After she got pissed at me, she went up to her room and stayed there until now. And since I value my life, I asked Sebastian to take the shopping bags up to her room, along with the snack and the glass of strawberry juice. I’m going to give her space. I don’t intend to force her to be around me when she’s clearly angry. Maya has a gift for driving me insane, but I’m not going to deliberately irritate her the way she does to me, much less disrespect her.
I look at the box in my lap and frown. Did she really buy a boot for me? I thought she wouldn’t spend money on that, especially after I recovered the one she threw in the trash. Did Maya ever consider that all it needed was washing before throwing it away?
“Aren’t you going to open it?” she asks, and for some reason I feel awkward.
Not wanting to make things worse, I open the box and am shocked by what I find inside. I look at the bitch—who, for some masochistic reason, I’m starting to like—and see her grinning from ear to ear. All the sentimental feeling I had about her gesture vanishes instantly. I’m not going to wear this shit.
“Did you like it?”
She’s kidding, right?
I take the pair out of the box, which I should have known was hiding something very suspicious. As soon as I lift the boots to eye level, the sound of my brothers’ laughter makes me clench my teeth.
“They’re very red,” I say, looking at the leather boots. “Are you sure they’re men’s?” The redhead shoots daggers at me with her eyes, and I decide to shut up and just thank her. “Thank you very much, but you didn’t need to spend money on this.”
“They were really cheap,” she lies straight to my face, because I know this brand is one of the most expensive.
“What beautiful boots, Luca,” Adrian comments, bursting into laughter, joined by our brothers.
“Good thing you liked them, because I bought one for each of you.” Now I’m the one who laughs.
Maya hands out my brothers’ boots, and after each of them thanks her, she throws herself onto the couch asking what movie we’re watching. We tell her it’s a horror movie. I wait for horror on her face at the genre choice, but all she does is ask if anyone has died yet, because if so, she wants us to go back to the beginning of the movie—which we end up doing, since we were already at the fifth death.
I spend every minute watching her instead of the movie, for one simple reason: all of that shit felt normal… too good. And the worst part was realizing that I liked it, just like my brothers did, because they also kept looking at her the entire time the movie played.
We’re fucked.
