Chapter 20
CHAPTER 20
Author's POV
The scent of blood and desperation filled the room —thick and suffocating. Magnus lay on the operating table, barely moving. His body pale, his breathing shallow. The silver bullet had penetrated through his muscles and bone leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The doctor and nurses worked hard on the wound, trying hard to stop the blood pumping out with so much force.
"He's losing so much blood," Dr. Adams muttered, desperation clawing at him, his forehead damp with sweat. "We'll lose him if we don't stop the bleeding soon."
Adams heart pounded against his ribs as watched his efforts not yielding any fruitful results. It's been hours and time was no longer by their side.
Viktor balled his fists, his heart pounding against his ribs. He had seen Magnus endured brutal battles, suffer countless injuries that would kill a lesser man, but this..... this was different. Silver was cruel enemy. It could render the strongest of Werewolves weak in just secoy, poisoning and destroying their organs from inside out.
"Do something!" Viktor snapped, his voice rough with desperation or perhaps frustration. He knew quite well that the doctor was working hard to savage the situation, but it wasn't him talking. It was fear.
Fear of losing the one person who had took him in and treated him like a brother. Fear of losing the man who saved his life time and again. After Magnus escaped from Ashen's father, he had been captured by Werewolves hunters along side with some other kids. But Magnus took the bold step of killing one of their captors and escaped with the kids before the other captors arrived.
While the other kids went their serprate ways, Viktor refused to leave and stayed with Magnus. It was later while talking that they realised that they had come from the same Pack.
“I’m trying!” The doctor’s voice was strained with exhaustion. “But his body isn’t healing fast enough. We need more time.”
Nerissa stood at the foot of the bed, arms crossed, her face a mask of stone. Deep down inside her, she hated the fact that Magnus had been too....soft. She hated that he had insisted on meeting Ashen for negotiation, when he should have killed Zara, send her body parts to him and then strike him.
"Are you okay?" Viktor asked, even though they had never gotten along—je still cared about her wellbeing. After all she would become his Luna when Magnus takes back his place.
"I'm fine," she replied quietly. But Viktor saw the fear beneath her cold exterior. She was scared. They all were.
Magnus continue to lose a lot of blood, the darkness began to pull him under, and in his subconscious, his mind spiraled into the night everything changed.

Sixteen years ago
Frostfang Pack.
The night air was thick with chaos and destruction. The once strong Frostfang Pack had been brought down to his ruin, their homes light up in flames. Screams echoed in the distance, the cries of pains and torment.
Magnus, barely twelve years old, stood frozen in horror, his small hands clenched into fists. All this life he had been trained to fight, to protect, to defend his people as their king when he was no more, but nothing could have prepared him for this. Besides, what would a twelve year old boy do to the battalions of warriors out there. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
His mother, a fierce warrior had been captured by the warriors, and a sword aimed at her neck.
"No......" Magnus screamed, but there was nothing that could be done. The warriors slit his mother's throat, and she fell to the ground, lying lifeless in the pool of her own blood.
His father, the Alpha, stood in the center of the palace grounds, his body battered, but his spirit unbroken.
"You should have killed me when you had the chance," a cold voice, Ashen's father sneered, his blade dropped of blood.
Ashen's father was a rogue who had always desired to rule someday, and his dream came to reality when he crossed path with Magnus father, the kind and peace loving Alpha. Cedric noticed that Ashen's father was gentle compared to the other Alpha's he has come on contact with so he decided to seize his throne.
Cedric stood, looming over the fallen Alpha, his eyes gleaming with cruel resentment. "But you've always been weak."
Magnus' Father growled, his fang spread out even in his weakened state. "You will regret this, Cedric."
But Cedric only laughed. In one swift movey, he drove his sword through Magnus' father's heart.
"Father......." Magnus screamed, tears streaming down his face. Cedric warriors moved towards him, dragging him away. He fought, kicked, bit—anything to reach his father, but it was too late.
The last thing he saw before darkness took him was Cedric setting fire to his dead parents, the flames licking at the night sky.

Present
Hot tears streamed down Magnus face. The doctor noticed this and quickly checked his pulse. It was so weak —barely there.
Suddenly, the doctor cursed under his breath, pressing down under on the wound, his hands crimson stained. In all years of practice, he had never seen a condition as critical as this. And he began wondering if something else had been laced with the silver bullet.
"Magnus, stay with me," Viktor whispered, his voice cracking. "You have to stay with me."
Nerissa stepped closer, her body trembling despite her attempt to stay calm. "Please...... I can't lose you now." Tears streamed down her face as she clutched to his cold hand tightly.
"Get me more cotton wool," the doctor ordered. One of the nurses quickly passed him a new pack of cotton wool after using two big packs earlier. He torn a large portion of the wool, pressing it against the wound.
But Magnus couldn’t fight the pull of unconsciousness any longer. The last thing he heard was the sound of Viktor shouting his name before everything faded to black.
