Mates and Luna
The wind stirred gently through the clearing as Leandra's magic slowly dissipated, leaving behind a sense of calm after the intensity of her practice. Sultan watched her with pride, admiring her determination and growing confidence. But he knew that there was more to teach her—more than just controlling her magic. Her destiny went beyond her power, and it was time to tell her what being mates and Luna would entail.
"Leandra," Sultan began, his tone soft but firm, "there's something else we need to discuss. Something more than just your magic."
Still basking in the quiet triumph of her progress, Leandra turned to face him, her expression curious but cautious. "What is it?"
Sultan took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully. "We've spoken about your power and the role you're meant to play in this world, but we haven't discussed what it means for you to be my mate, what it means to be Luna. We've only glossed over the topic. I figured now we could have a proper conservation about it, and I can answer any questions you may have."
Leandra's brow furrowed slightly. "I've heard you mention it before—being a Luna. But I don't understand what that means. Is it just... a title used for the person caring for your pack ?"
Sultan shook his head, stepping closer to her. "No, it's much more than that. In my world, in our world, the bond between mates is sacred. It's not just about love or attraction—though that's part of it. Being mates means we are connected deeper, tied together by fate. I knew the moment I met you that you were mine. It wasn't a choice, not really. The bond is something ancient that's been part of our kind for as long as we've existed."
Leandra bit her lip, her arms crossing over her chest as she considered his words. "But... what does that mean for me? I didn't grow up knowing about this world. I didn't ask to be anyone's mate. Does this bond mean I don't have a choice?"
Sultan's gaze softened. "You always have a choice, Leandra. The bond connects us but doesn't force us to do anything. It's about us—about the strength we find together. You're free to walk away if that's what you choose, but the bond is still there unless you reject me. But if you embrace it, it can become something unbreakable."
Leandra frowned, clearly struggling with the weight of what he was saying. "I still don't get it. You make it sound like it's destiny or something, but what if I'm not ready for that? What if I don't want to be tied to anyone, let alone to someone I barely know? What would happen if I reject the bond?"
Sultan's jaw tightened, his wolf snarling at the mere mention of the word reject, but he kept his voice calm. "I would be immensely hurt, physically and emotionally, from the rejection, especially my wolf. We only get one mate. Sometimes, there's a rare second chance mate occurrence, but not often. I understand your hesitation. You didn't grow up with this knowledge, and I'm not asking you to accept it overnight; accept me overnight. But being mates isn't just about me claiming you. It's about us both belonging to each other. I would be yours just as much as you are mine. All I'm asking is for you to have an open mind and give me a chance to show you what it means to mates. And as for being Luna..."
He paused, letting the words sink in.
"What does that mean?" Leandra asked, her tone more curious now than defensive. "What does being a Luna involve?"
Sultan crossed his arms, his expression growing more serious. "Being Luna isn't just a title—it's a responsibility. You would be the pack leader alongside me, responsible for guiding, protecting, and nurturing our people. The pack looks to the Luna for balance, for wisdom. The Alpha leads with strength, but the Luna brings compassion and heart, which unifies the pack. You'd be making decisions, not just about battle, but about the well-being of everyone under our protection."
Leandra's eyes widened slightly. "That sounds... intense. So I'd be running things with you?"
Sultan nodded. "Exactly. The Luna is the heart of the pack. And it's not just about being a figurehead. You'd have real influence and authority. You'd be responsible for caring for the pack in ways I can't. My strength comes from leadership, from protecting and enforcing, but you... your strength is different. You're a healer, a nurturer. The pack needs that, and so do I."
Leandra took a deep breath, clearly overwhelmed by what he was telling her. "That's a lot of responsibility. I don't know if I'm ready for something like that. I've always been responsible for my patients, but this? Leading a pack? I'm not sure I'm cut out for it."
Sultan stepped forward; his voice filled with quiet conviction. "You're more of a leader than you think, Leandra. You've already proven that. And you're not in this alone. We'll do this together. You're already a natural at caring for others—that's why I know you'll be a great Luna."
Leandra's gaze flickered with uncertainty, but something in her expression told Sultan she was starting to understand. "But I still have so many questions. What if I mess up? What if the pack doesn't accept me?"
Sultan's expression darkened slightly, his protective instincts flaring at the thought. "There will be those who question you at first; Some won't like the idea of a human hybrid being their Luna. But they will fall in line, or they will be dealt with. No one disrespects you without facing the consequences."
Leandra blinked, surprised by the sudden edge in his tone. "What do you mean? You can't just—"
"I don't tolerate disrespect, Leandra," Sultan said, his voice firm and commanding. "Not from anyone. I am the Alpha. The pack is loyal to me and will also be loyal to you. We'll be a team, and we will move as a unit. If they aren't, they'll face the consequences. I'm the Alpha for a reason, and my word is law. But you won't have to earn their respect with fear—that's my job. You'll earn it through your actions, through who you are."
Leandra was silent momentarily, her mind racing as she processed everything. "I'm not used to being in this kind of role. I don't know how to lead."
Sultan's gaze softened again, his voice calming. "You'll learn. And I'll be with you every step of the way."
Leandra frowned, then asked, "And what about my life? My friends, my family, my job? How do I explain all of this to them? Do I just leave everything behind?"
Sultan hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "That's a choice you'll have to make, but I don't expect you to give up everything. I'll meet your friends and your family when you're ready. We'll bring our lives together, not separate them."
Leandra let out a slow breath, her mind still racing. "There's so much I don't know. So much I still have to figure out."
"And you will," Sultan said firmly. "But you don't have to do it all at once. Take it one step at a time."
Leandra nodded slowly, her gaze shifting to the horizon. "And what's the next step?"
Sultan smiled faintly. "The next step is meeting the pack, getting familiar with them, and the pack land. I want to introduce you to them. Show you what it means to be part of this world."
Leandra's eyes widened. "Wait—you want me to meet the pack? Now?"
Sultan nodded. "Soon. They need to know who you are, and you need to see what it means to be part of something bigger."
Leandra hesitated, clearly nervous. "And what if they don't accept me?"
"They will," Sultan said firmly. "And if anyone challenges you, they'll have to deal with me."
