CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-EIGHT
AURON'S P.O.V
His eyes narrowed.
"Something else came up? What could be more important than bringing her here? The future of the pack depends on being here, we need her to extract the powers that lie in her."
My hands gripped the arm rest in anger, I had to control myself from snapping the wood off. I sighed, feeling even more irritated.
"Look, Elder Mikhail, I'm tired. Can we talk about this later? I just want to rest."
His face darkened, he looked like he wanted to say something but he nodded curtly. "Fine. But you need to bring Aurora back here as soon as possible. The sooner we get her powers, the better."
I nodded, looking like I was trying to placate him. "I'll take care of it, Elder Mikhail. Just leave me alone for now." I waved my hands, he bowed then left silently, not forgetting to pick up his mask.
The hall became quiet as soon asge left, except for the shuffling of the two men behind me. I could tell they were antsy and needed answers about my sudden behavior.
"Alright, you can speak now."
The shuffling stopped but no one made any move to say anything. I let out an exhausted groan, massaging the sides of my head.
"Look guys, I'm exhausted from running all the way here without stopping so the faster we do this, the faster I can gety rest. Now speak, I know you guys are dying to say something."
After a few seconds, just when I was about to stand up, someone cleared their throat and spoke.
"Alpha, are you dying?"
My head shot up, I frowned.
"What?"
"I'm not saying...I don't mean to insult you...its just that...just that...you are really acting strange." He rushed to amend.
"Yeah, all the things you just did...its not you. It's like a different person. And the way you spoke to Elder Mikhail, it was almost...dismissive....usually, you're always so careful of what he thinks...you didn't even do what he had wanted..."
I winced, "I thought I hid that well." I muttered.
"What?"
I shook my head.
"No go on, I was just saying."
"Okay...so um...why we asked if you're dying is because of these changes."
"And you think I'm dying?" The thought felt ridiculous to me, can't I just change.
"Yes Alpha, usually, its when people are about to die that they start changing so suddenly."
"And that's why you think I'm dying? These "death behaviors" ?"
"Yes alpha."
I let out a long sign and stood up and stretched my body, without facing them, I answered.
"No one is dying. It's just a little change. I realized that there is more to this world than being stiff and just gouhg through life." Then I walked off, "I'll be in my room, resting. Do not let anyone disturb me."
"Yes Alpha." They both answered.
I passed out on my bed as soon as my I laid down. I didn't know if it was because I was dead tired of because I just missed the place. No matter how much I lived being at Aurora's side pack, this place was still home to me. For the first time on my room, I had the most fitful sleep. I woke up the next day refreshed and ready to start the day. I quickly took a shower, dressed on my usual match of jeans, shirt, jacket and boots, but this time, I forgtforgo the mask and cloak, no more of that.
I went down for breakfast, as usual Gail and Derek appeared behind me as suddenly as they always do.
"Good morning, Alpha."
"Alpha."
They both greeted.
I nodded at them.
"Morning Gail, Derek. Have you both had your breakfast?"
"Well..."
I didn't let them answer, I beckoned them to sit with me.
"Come on, let's have breakfast together."
"Huh?"
"What?"
I nodded to the lady serving the food.
"Please bring two more servings for them."
She gave me a strange look but nodded quickly.
"Yes alpha."
I glanced at them, still standing as if they were unsure of what I had said.
"I know I didn't have water in my mouth when I said you should join me. Come sit."
"But alpha..."
"Sit." I commanded.
"Yes Alpha."
They immediately sat on each side of me, as if they still wanted to protect me as they ate. I guess this will have to do for now. We were silent as well waited for their food, I wanted us to eat at the same time. Soon their own serving was brought and placed in front of them. I thanked the servers and once more received more strange looks from them. Once they were out of earshot, I crossed my hands and shook my head.
"Am I really that bad? Was I that strict and cruel that I never said a simple thank you after being served. Who was I? Gosh!"
No one answered me, so I looked at the both of them abs pointed at one.
"You."
"Yes Alpha."
"Take off your mask."
His head immediately shot up, he looked at his other companion in panic. I could see his throat working as he gulped.
"Will I be in trouble if I refuse?"
I shook my head.
"No, but I still want you to remove your mask."
"Why alpha?"
I gave him an obvious look as I pointed at the food in front of him
"Are you going to eat with the mask on? Take it off."
"But you never allowed us to eat in front of you, with you or take our masks off." The other companion interjected.
"I would like to see your faces and I also want you both to stop wearing masks. So take it off, including you. Nothing is going to happen, I assure you."
"But alpha...the last time someone has dared to open his mask, you made him stay in the dungeon for a week."
I shook my head, horrified.
"I never did such thing. Fine I didn't want to see your faces for a reason but it never reached a point that I would punish anyone like that."
"But you gave the order."
My nose flared in anger.
"Who said I gave the order?"
They glanced at each other then answered at the same time.
"Elder Mikhail."
Anger coursed through me, I squeezed my fists in anger, my nails digging through my palms. I took a deep breath abs let my wolf come to the surface.
"Take off your masks. I COMMAND YOU!"
