Chapter 129 129

Chapter 129 129
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE

LUCIAN'S P.O.V

Two days later, Griffin, Kieran and I stood in front of the pack house, Aurora, Talia, Kale and mom about to send us off.

"I'm going to miss you." Aurora whinned cutely, burying her face in the crook of my neck.

I caressed her head with my hand, smiling sadly.
"I know, I'm going to miss you even more. I promise to be back immediately we are down. But you have to promise me one thing."

"What is it?"

"Please be safe, always stay inside and if you need to go out, Kale must follow you."

She sighed dramatically.
"Fine. Yes, I promise."

Kale stepped forward, a serious and alert look on his face.
"Don't worry Lucian, I promise to keep her safe, even at the cost of my life."

I npdded, stepping back from her just as soon as Griffin was finishing his goodbyes with Talia.

"Anytime now. The Alphas convention is not that important." Kieran called out sarcastically with a cross and almost annoyed looking on his face.

Griffin and I rolled our eyes at him, I faced Kale, giving him an urgent look.
"Kale, even if she begs you or threatens you, no matter what she does, do not let her out of your sight. Please."

He nodded.
"You can trust me, Alpha."

She threw her hands up.
"Come on, I'm not that difficult to protect for goodness sake."

Kale turned to glance at her, his eyes wide.
"From the past two days I've been around you, trust me, even a kid is such easier "

"What! How dare you?" She fake gasped.

Kale broke out in a smile.
"Just kidding, but seriously, you're hard to watch. But that doesn't mean I can't watch you for one week."

I pat his shoulders, "That's the spirit. See you when we come back." I nodded at him, feeling a bit better.

Then I turned to Aurora again, pulling her into a tight hug.
"I'll be back before you know it," I whispered into her ear.

She smiled up at me, her long, white hair blowing in the gentle breeze, her golden eyes staribg at me with love.
"Be careful, okay?"

I kissed her long and passionately one more time before letting go, not missing the dazed look that was on her face as I stepped back, feeling a sense of longing.

"I will. Take care of yourself, and listen to Kale."

Griffin and Talia shared a similar goodbye, then he clapped me on the back.
"Time to go, Lucian. We don't want to be late."

I nodded, "Let's go."

But first, I didn't forget to give mom a big kiss on the cheek and a hug, she smiled at me, squeezing my cheeks softly.
"Just get back safely."

"I will mom. Bye, please take care of yourself and Aurora."

"I promise."

We got into the car, Kieran behind the wheel, me in the passenger seat beside him while Griffin behind us. We drove off, leaving the pack house behind.

As we hit the road, I felt a sense of unease. What was going to happen while I was away? Would Aurora be safe? I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the meeting ahead.

Kieran glanced at me in the rearview mirror.
"Hey, Lucian, you okay? You're looking a bit tense."

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "Just worried about Aurora, that's all."

Griffin nodded. "She'll be fine. Kale's with her, and Talia and Eleanor are there too. She's in good hands."

I nodded, trying to convince myself. "Yeah, I know. It's just...I can't shake this feeling."

Kieran chuckled.
"That's what happens when you fall in love, man." He swallowed, his eyes going far away. "You're screwed." His voice sounded like something he had experienced, I had a hunch it was Aurora.

So I glared at him. "Shut it, Kieran."

Not put of spite but to make him come back to his senses. And it worked, because he blinked then shook his head and cleared his throat.

"Don't worry, I only see her as a little sister now."

"Better."

I looked out the window, at the passing trees and bushes, the wind was a bit sharp as it blew past but I welcomed the feeling. It made me feel alive and also distracted me from thinking too much about Aurora.

"You guys spent the whole time saying goodbye, one would think you were leaving for war." Kieran spoke after a few minutes, I guess he didn't like the silence, strange of him. I was about to open my mouth and answer when something flashed from the corner of my eyes.

"Stop the car!" I yelled, sitting straight.

"What?" Kieran asked confused.

Griffin bolted forward.
"What is it?"

"I said stop the bloody car!" I roared again.

He nodded and immediately hit the brake, coming to a swift stop and generating a lot of dust in the air. I opened the door and jumped down from the car. Then I ran a few distances back, where I thought I had seen something. My eyes were narrowed as I scanned the side of the woods, trying to get another glimpse but all I could see were trees and bushes, nothing else.

"Hey, what happened?"

"Did you see anything?"

Kieran and Griffin asked as they ran to meet me. I cursed under my breath, shaking my head. Did I imagine it? I could have sworn I saw a glimpse of black.

"I'm sorry, maybe it was my paranoia..." I shook my head again.

Kieran came closer, his eyes also scanning the place.
"What did you see?"

I stared into his face.
"I thought I saw them."

"Who?" They both asked with confusion.

"Those strange men, the one I'm trying to protect Aurora from."

An alarmed look settled on their faces.

"You saw them?"

I shrugged, "I think I saw them but maybe it was nothing, I can't even scent any strange smells here. It doesn't smell like someone has been here. It might have just been my imagination, my worries messing with me."

Kieran face me a skeptical look.
"Are you sure?"

I bit my lips.
"I hope I am. Let's go. Its nothing."

I walked back to the car, Griffin and Kieran behind me.
"If you say so. We are late too."

"Yeah, yeah. If you drive faster, I'm sure we can make it and hopefully I don't see Alpha Victor and Alpha Ryder."

"Oh yeah, those Alphas." Griffin nodded knowingly.

We got into the car, Kieran stepped in the accelerator, driving with full speed.

"What about Alpha Victor and Alpha Ryder?"

Griffin and I shared a silent look.

"Trust me, it's a long story and I don't think You wsnt to know."

He raised his chin.
"Try me."

I sighed in defeat.
"Alright, lets just say they cane to apologize for not helping me when Desmond was going at it. And then in the name of peace, they tried to pitch their women to me, and still insisted even after knowing Aurora was my mate."
