CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
"Yes, she is my mate."
"I'm happy for you man. Though I knew she was your mate."
He frowned, blinking.and tilt his head.
"Really? How did you know?"
I scoffed, Aurora stared at me curiously.
"We all knew, we just never said anything. You were like an open book that showed your feelings the more you tried to hide it."
"Then why didn't anyone say anything?"
I pat his shoulder.
"Because we wanted you to make the move. You didn't need us to tell you what to do. And you provided us right."
He broke into a grin, his eyes twinkling.
"Thank you, I'm glad I found the couage. I almost chickened out many times."
"Then where is she? She didn't come with you." Aurora asked looking around.
"She had to go on a mission to another pack, so she couldn't be here. But next time, I will bring her to meet you."
"It's a promise "
We shared a brief laughter and focused back on the party watching Mirabel and her mate as they danced. Griffin and Talia were also on the dance floor, spinning each other with reckless abandon, while the elders clapped in rhythm, their wrinkled faces softened by the revelry. As well watched them silently, I prayed that we would continue to have this peace for a long time.
The next morning was abuzz with activities as we all helped Eli and his siblings pack their stuffs into their car. Mirabel, Talia and Aurora stood to one side, huddled together, their faces filled with reluctance.
“Take care of each other,” I told them, clasping Eli’s forearm then shaking Jake and Shawn's hands.
He gave me a firm nod. “You’ve got a solid pack, Alpha. We’ll be back before you know it.”
Jake grinned.
"Call us again, anytime you need us. And as usual, we'll come running...but next time make sure we end it early so I can sleep. I love my sleep."
"What he said." Shawn echoed with a serious expression.
I threw back my head and laughed, I was really going to miss them, again. I turned to watch Aurora.
Mirabel hugged her, and whispered, “Don’t forget to call. I’ll give you hell if you do."
Then she hugged Talia.
"And you better take care of our bestie. She's yours for now, but I'll be back."
Talia and Aurora smiled back with teary eyes as they once again took each other in a long hug.
"Bye."
"See you soon. You better come back or she's mine forever." Talia yelled watching them drive off. "I'll miss them."
I made a note to myself to remind Aurora that she was mine, only mine. I don't share.
Aurora drew her in gently.
"We all will Talia, but I'm sure we can see them anytime we want.
Life settled into a rhythm of patrols, training, and quiet evenings in my bedroom... Okay, maybe not so quiet. More like loud with passionate sex.
He he!
Since she wasn't able to finish college before the whole drama with Desmond, she and Talia went right back to school. There were times when Griffin and I missed our mates to the extent that we would wait outside their classes just for them to come out and glare at us. And we loved it, I'm sure they did too...I think. But it was all good, bevause we managed, with difficulty to grow into our roles as Alpha and Luna, her by my side. Her laughter echoing through the pack house as she interacted with the pack members, mom and Talia by her side helping her. While I along with Griffin made sure pur focus never left the pack boundaries for the pack's security.
Two months after Eli anThthe others had gone, it was a crisp afyernoon. Aurora had just come back from svhool so we were using that time to cuddle on a large couch in the sitting room. When suddenly, one of my oack membrs, a scout that guarded tge pack boundary, rushed in, his face white, breathless and eyes wide.
I immediately became alert, getting to my feet. This has to be serious for him to intrude on my time with Aurora.
"What is it?"
“Alpha, you need to hear this,” he said, “We spotted a strange party of people heading toward our pack. They’re not from any of the neighboring pack. They’re…different. Wearing long, black coats with a silver crescent and strange symbols on their hoodies, their faces are covered too.”
I felt a chill run down my spine, and Aurora’s hand tightened around mine, it was still early to conclude what they we're here for.
“Did they say anything?” I asked, keeping my voice steady.
He dhook his head, his face looking confused.
"No, Alpha. No matter what we asked, they refused to speak. We managed to make them stop at the border but they have no intentions of leaving."
"How many are they?"
"More than thirty, at least."
I exchanged a worried glance with Aurora. Her eyes flickered with a mix of curiosity and unease.
"Is Beta Griffin there?"
"Yes, he was the one who ordered me to let you know."
I nodded in understanding, bracing myself.
"Alright, let's go there."
"I'm coming with you." She tugged my hand softly, her eyes blazing.
"Aurora..."
"You know I won't change my mind so just let me come with you, or I'll find another way to do it." Her tone said don't try me.
I knew she wasn't going to listen to me. I sighed in defeat.
"Fine. Let's go. But no matter what you..."
She rolled her eyes and interrupted me with a groan.
"Yes, I know. I have to keep myself safe at all times. You're talking to a woman who can protect herself." She grinned and grabbed my hand. "Let's go see who the strangers are. And goddess help them they are not here to attack my pack."
An amused laughed escaped me as I watched her animated face. I squeezed her hand.
"Let's gV
."
