Chapter 60
Chapter 60
Asher's POV.
More often than not, whenever a woman challenged me I couldn't always bear their excesses and tried to break their spirit but I knew it wouldn't work on lady Melody. That woman was too stubborn for her good.
Whatever hopes of finding out if she was the same person as Layla, had flown out of the window the instant she saw me dealing with those people.
They were scum, and have not kept to the end of their own bargain. It wasn't my fault that I had a lot of power over them so they had to deal with it whether or not they liked my approach.
Why then was I pacing around when I saw her walking with Damon? I thought they were having some kind of friction, when did they settle things?
I watched her laugh, even going as far as putting her hands on her lips, resembling a woman smitten by a man and I grew angry.
I love the fact that she liked me better than my cousin I didn't want that to change anytime soon,
"Come along, Rain." I summoned my beta through the mind link. If this relationship was heading to a point of being forever in love, then I had a problem.
What gave me the assurance that any of these things were going to amount to something tangible and not just leave me stranded? I had more than enough reasons to start worrying sick before it turned into something more than I expected.
What was to give me the assurance that these guys wouldn't come together and form a strategic alliance against me?
"I think you're just worried for nothing, Alpha. Lady Melody has always been a compassionate person according to what I have heard about her. She just needs some explanation to back up your actions and you would have no problems with her. If you do not tell her what she needs to hear, she might end up resenting you." Rain supplied as soon as he walked through the door.
I could always count on having a wonderful assistant because he was even steps ahead of anybody that I had come in contact with in the past few weeks.
I loved the fact that he was very strategic with his answers and responded quicker than you would ever expect.
Whenever I sat in a state of dilemma he was ready to supply moves that sometimes made me wonder how he was able to come up with all of these ideas?
"She is tender-hearted and we are going to play to that effect instead of letting things slide. If we are nonchalant about what the people are going through, it is going to send a wrong signal to her and trust me when I say you do not need such drama on your hands at this point. You need to be in a state where you have lots of supporters and not the other way around."
I would never take him for granted if that was what he was thinking but, I also had my reservations concerning this issue. What was the assurance that this lady will not find faults if I started playing to that effect?
"You cannot just expect a person not to think twice about my unnecessary kindness because everyone knows that is not my nature." I asked.
"Because like every other woman, even the most expensive people love explanations and that's what you're going to feed her with. She would not know what hits her until it is right in her face and then you can always maneuver. Damon is not capable of handling such a woman and he knows it." Rain kept dropping bombshells and I couldn't help but laugh.
He could be disastrous when he wanted to and that was one of the reasons I kept him around. He had a way of bringing out wonderful ideas even though I didn't think that sometimes it was necessary.
"You are one of the most crooked people that I have encountered in a long time. So you are saying that I should stage a discussion between both of us that would aid our relationship blossoming instead of just leaving things to chance?" I asked just so that I was sure of what he was talking about.
"I'm positive that this is going to work. She wouldn't be able to resist an Alpha laying down everything that she had taught wrong against him. Women are mostly emotional and that's what we are going to play towards. She wouldn't know what hit her until it was close." Rain laughed.
This was one of the reasons I couldn't just chase him away, he worked just how I liked it and I enjoyed playing this game to the fullest.
Let's see what Damon has to say about this but the time he finds out that I have been speaking to his woman again.
"We are going to have a banquet that factors in a lot of people from various Packs. Isabella looks like she's having a hard time breathing with Lady Melody's presence. I just wonder why." I mused aloud.
Rain snorted. He also hated that woman to his guts, and sometimes I felt sorry for her because she didn't deserve such hatred from my backup.
This only set her up for disaster and she didn't even know it.
"I don't understand how people can stand her because I know that she is as fake as fake can be, sometimes she cannot even pretend not to be fake and that's one of the greatest problems anybody could face." He mused.
We looked at each other for a minute, and burst into laughter. We shouldn't be doing any of these but we didn't have a choice as they had made it possible for us to go ahead with our plans.
Now the crescent Pack was completely mine for the taking. I didn't care who was gored, because as far as I was concerned, it was time for me to reign.
"Saddle the horses, we might be going over to Witherspoon tonight."

Damon's POV.
Lady Melody looked more relaxed than I would ever love to admit since I had known her and it was wonderful how she seemed like a genuinely good person who didn't have any problems admitting that she had the wrong perception about a person before coming closer.
"You mean that no one has ever seen you walking with any man in the Kingdom?" I queried when we started speaking about our pasts.
It was beautiful and I couldn't even comprehend that for such a person who wielded so much authority she never stepped out of line with any man.
It gave me hope that I had found the woman after my heart but the only issue was making her see that I was worthy enough for her love.
"Of course, yes, what do you even take me for?" She asked in an affronted manner, before shrugging, "definitely not much based on your accusations." She laughed.
Her hair cascaded down her shoulders, causing a halo to form on them and I couldn't help but be intrigued by her very existence.
It seemed like she was genuinely having a good time walking around with me and I loved it.
This was the first thing that my cousin had done for me that I genuinely appreciated.
"You were not thrilled to meet me in the first place until after you found out that I wasn't like every other girl." The question came with daggers piercing through them and I would be stupid enough to answer it just anyhow I would have loved to.
"I don't know what this means but what I am sure of is the fact that I would not do a thing that I didn't have delight in, so I guess that should account for something." I responded.
She came to a halt, turning to stare into my eyes, having a school teachers effect on me. "Has anyone told you that you are a bad liar?" She raised her eyebrows.
Was she trying to go psychic on me because that wasn't going to work? It was supposed to work in the reverse, not like this.
I laughed, ignoring the question, she was ready to dig deep into my mind and see what I was hiding but not on my watch. I had various things to do with my time and energy and I was protecting it as much as I could.
I also understood the need for her to get some ideas straight but not at my detriment.
I had more than enough reasons to also come up with ideas that will push her away from the truth.
"You have also judged me countless times. Why do you expect me to give you the information that you so desire?" I acted nonchalant about what she was discussing.
She looked at me for a moment and nodded, "I guess I deserve that for trying to prod when I have not cleared myself yet. It's quite amusing to me that you will take such risks. It's not something that I would expect the general populace to do. I commend you because this could have gone south." She whispered again.
This girl was wonderful at interrogation but I was also going to play her game to a point where we understood that certain information couldn't be divulged no matter how skilled of an interviewer she was.
"Has anyone told you that you have a penchant for fishing out the truth in people? I'm sure you must have heard the compliment countless times." I threw her off like it was a seventh wonder.
Her eyes turned serious and I stopped moving, watching and waiting for her next answer.
"I do not appreciate it when people lie to me and I guess you have already figured that out. I want to know what goes on here. I want to know why Alpha Asher oppresses the people so much and Alpha Nathan can't do a thing about it." She demanded.
The bulk of the question was going to lead me into speaking about the past and that was not a trap I was willing to fall into.
I was willing to have only conversations that were progressive enough for me and not things that dampened my own mind.
If she didn't believe what I was about to tell her then there was absolutely nothing I could ever do about it. She had probably gotten to a point where she no longer wanted to listen to what anybody had to say except for what went through her mind and that was perfect.
I didn't have any bias towards my cousin as anyone would have thought but I hated the fact that he could get away with his wicked plans without people figuring it out until they had fallen into his traps.
"Let's just say that some people are better judges of character than others and this makes us very careful. In case you have forgotten, he is the alpha King and there is nothing any alpha can do to him except he is dead." I reminded her.
She snorted at my response.
"That's the most barbaric thing that I have heard in a long time and I am genuinely shocked that you of all people would believe that. Is that why everyone walks around him with eggshells?"
I grabbed her hand, dragging her backwards. "I hope you're not trying to do something stupid because I wouldn't be able to fight for you in his presence. He doesn't take challenges lightly."
She shrugged nonchalantly but I couldn't trust it. This woman had an idea that was going to land her in more problems than she needed at the moment, and I was here to caution her out of it.
"Can't you speak to him to stop moving around and instilling fear in people? That doesn't even make him any better than rogues." She spat.
I clamped my palm across her mouth. She was feisty but that was going to lead her into more trouble than she should have bargained for and I wouldn't stand for it no matter what she tried to do.
I had more than enough reasons to be afraid for her than she did for herself.
