Chapter 29 Chapter 29
Time flew by and weeks had already passed since the witch make the shocking statement.
Marked and mated. I knew what that entailed.
It was not like I was a virginal school girl but I didn't know if I was ready to take such a big step yet. I believe Lucian felt the same because he went berserk after she said it and sent her out. Aiden had to calm him down and they left the room.
I remembered thinking so hard about what to do after that day that I hadn't even come to a decision till this moment. Lucian had been scare too that I had barely seen him.
I had started to move within the pack house but not outside to the courtyard or garden. I still was not allowed to train. I got to find the library in the pack house and it was a treasure. I was amazed at how large it was.
I didn't know such a treasure was hidden in this building. So that was how I spent my days reading. I couldn’t stop worrying about Lucian even if I didn’t want to. This was a first for him to avoid me for this long. I wanted to know if he had come to a decision. The witch also added that if it didn’t happen soon, other bad events would follow and conception amongst mates would cease. That was what bothered me the most.
How could the future of a pack depend solely on me? The feud she spoke about I’d never heard of it, I knew we didn’t associate with the Shadow pack but I didn’t know things were this serious. What if I never came to this pack? Then what?
‘That's why the witch said it is your fate’
My fate. I have heard that word more times than I can count over the past few days. Did that mean my fate involved getting hurt? Is this what the Moon Goddess planned for me when she came up with the prophecy.
‘Everything happened for your fate to happen. If you weren't hurt, you won't have to leave the silver pack and come here’
‘Scratch that’ i said to myself. I didn’t want to think about it anymore.
I picked the book I came for and turned to leave the library. As I walked the long corridors, I bumped into Dahlia and she had a sly smile on her face.
"I see you are still alive” she chuckled dryly.
"Clearly, your plan to eliminate me didn't work"
"At least, you’ve been locked away in that room for weeks and that is fine by me. I got what I wanted. Lucian's attention" My fist curled in anger.
"Your presence in this pack has taken his attention from me and I've won it back. You needed to hear the way he moaned my name when he finished inside me. He took me over and over again still I thought I would pass out" My chest constricted and my eyes stung but I didn't show her I was affected by her words. I cleared my throat.
"You just confessed that I am a threat to you because you had to take me away just to get the attention of someone who is clearly not interested in you. It tells a lot" she flared.
"You can sleep with half of the pack for all I care. Your choices don’t affect me. Have a nice day” I took my leave but her words made me stop.
"You'll never win against me, I promise you. The Alpha is mine" I chuckled
"No one is in competition with you, Dahlia" I said and walked out, happy that I had stood my ground against Dahlia.
When I was in the confines of my room. I almost lost my balance. So that was where he had been spending his time…with Dahlia. How could he kiss me one moment and t he next, he’s sleeping with Dahlia.
It wasn't supposed to hurt but it hurt like hell. Was that why he lingered at my room each night without coming in? Why he keeps avoiding me?
"You're thinking too much again" I turned to the sound of Lina's voice. I must have been deep in thoughts for me not to have noticed. She set the tray down, it contained some fruits and tea.
"You'll wrinkle before you're twenty five"
"I'm twenty four" I muttered though my attempt at humor fell flat. She gave me a soft smile.
"I thought you went for a walk. Why are you back already?" I sighed.
"I was not comfortable. I heard whispers as I passed by and I couldn’t stand it. I also ran into Dahlia and that made me hasten my decision to return here”
"What did she say?"
"She was saying different things, let's not talk about her so the rest of our day doesn't get ruined" she nodded.
"That reminds me, there's a party tonight and it’s also the full moon. It would be fun, you should come. Everyone would be there"
"I'm not sure about that. I don't even have a dress to wear"
"Don't bother about that. I have something that'll look good on you" I nodded
I should have said no but something inside me whispered otherwise. I was curious to know what happened in their party. In fact, for the first time,I just wanted to live and not worry about anything. I started read the book I had gotten from the library until I slept off.
When I woke up, evening had come. I could hear voices and I looked outside the window to see that the party had already started, there was music and laughter. The gathering was full and the party was in full swing.
'I overslept. I must have missed a lot and Lina would have gone without me’ I said to myself. Lina barged into the room with a dress in her hand.
"You need to get ready now" She said pushing me towards the bathroom. I did as she said and went to take a bath. I came out and she helped me get into the dress.
"I knew it would fit perfectly. You look so beautiful" she said but I didn't feel like I was beautiful when I looked at myself in the mirror.
"Let's go"
The pack's main hall glowed with light. Lantern lined the path and laughter rang across the courtyard as wolves mingled, drank and danced.
Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, Lina had also joined the crowd leaving me to myself. Music floated through the crisp air, laced with different scents.
I lingered at the edge of the courtyard, holding the soft blue gown Lina had brought. The fabric hugged my body and swayed around my knees. I wasn't looking for him but I still felt him. Lucian's presence. It was magnetic. I looked up at the skies, the moon was not yet out but the stars had already aligned. The sight was beautiful.
"It's beautiful right?" I turned to Damian's voice and I nodded. He looked good in his black clothes.
"I didn't think you'd come" he had that usual smirk on his face. He looked different, less teasing and more handsome.
"I almost didn't. I don't think I fit into all this" I admitted.
"Good thing you did. You’ll enjoy it” he handed me a glass of what he was drinking. I swirled the cup and brought it to my nose.
"It's cider" he said as if sensing my hesitation.
"Looks good" I murmured.
"It’s good, you’ll love it. Tonight its perfect and the drink goes with it. It's a night to unwind from accumulated stress and a night of new beginnings. That’s what the Beta said"
"You believe that?" His gaze flickered towards the group of people laughing.
"I believe some new relationships are being formed. It’s also the full moon and mates would meet each other. I believe it had started already” I frowned, there was a lingering meaning to his words but before I could question him further, he smiled again and the moment was gone.
"Come on, we are supposed to dance at a party. Did no one teach you how to enjoy yourself?” He led me towards the dance floor where the music was louder, soft breath brushed against our faces.
The moon had started to come out but its light was still pale. Damian held me and we started moving our bodies to the beat. He turned me around and we both laughed enjoying our moment together. I had forgotten all my worries and started enjoying the party.
Suddenly, I felt a warmth at the base of my spine, spreading upwards and my breath hitched. The mark on my arm faint for days, began to prickle. Damian noticed immediately.
"Ailsa?"
"I….I don't know what's happening" I muttered, he helped take me out from there.
The world titled slightly and my body was on fire. My wolf was in a frenzy and she wanted to tear Damian's clothes. A strong scent hit me and my wolf wanted that scent on her, it made me dizzy with bent. The moment I realized whose scent it was. My pulse spiraled out of control.
I felt his presence before I saw him, that invisible pull tightening between us. Then he appeared.
Lucian stood in the hall, his expression unreadable. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, his jaw tense.
"Step away from her" He said, his voice low. Damian stiffened, turning slightly.
"Alpha, she's not well. I think...."
"I said step away!!!" His voice echoed in the hallway.
Damian moved away immediately leaving Lucian and I. My heart pounded as Lucian closed the distance between us, his scent invading my senses and my wolf jumped with desire.
"Lucian…” his name came out as a whisper but it was filled with desire.
"I don't...." He caught my wrist before I could finish.
"You shouldn't be here. Let's go to your room so you can sleep"
The sound of the room made my insides tingle, desire shooting straight to my core.
"I'm not doing this on purpose" I said when we reached the room.
"I know” he hesitated. “It’s your heat. Today is the full moon" his voice was thick like he was controlling it.
Heat! Damn!
That was the reason I was feeling this horny. His hand was warm around my had,too warm. The air between us was thick enough, full of heat and something raw. Lucian took a cautious step back, muttering something.
"Touch me"I said before I could stop myself. He exhaled, rough and controlled.
"You are playing with fire, Ailsa. Your scent is making me go crazy and I can barely hold myself back”
My heart trimmed but the heat was too much to be ignored.
"I want you"
