Chapter 147 Bonus Chapter
Chapter 147 Bonus Chapter
LUCIAN
I had gone through difficult situations but nothing prepared me for this. Alisa’s scream ripped through the room and it shattered something deep inside my chest.
“Lucian…!”
Her voice broke on my name, and every instinct in me surged forward. My hands curled into fists at my sides as I took a step toward the room, only to be blocked again.
“You need to stay back” the midwife insisted, her tone firm but not unkind. “When she starts pushing, you cannot be here”
“Don’t try to stop me” I snapped at her. My tone very dangerous.
I wasn’t leaving. I couldn’t let Ailsa go through this alone.
Alisa cried out again, her body arching, and that was the end of it. I crossed the space in two strides and was at her side before anyone could argue again. My hand found hers instantly, gripping tightly.
“I’m here” I said, my voice low and steady despite the storm raging inside of me.
“Alisa, I’m right here. I won’t let you do this alone”
Her fingers clenched around mine with surprising strength, her nails biting into my skin.
“Don’t…” she gasped, her breath uneven, her face damp with sweat. “Don’t leave me…”
“Never.”
The word came out rough. A scream tote from her throat and my chest constricted because I couldn’t do anything to stop the pain.
“Good” the midwife said, focused and calm. “Alisa, listen to me. When the next one comes, you need to push.”
Alisa shook her head weakly, tears slipping from the corners of her eyes.
“I can’t… I can’t…”
“You can” I murmured immediately, leaning closer, my forehead brushing hers. “You can, Alisa. You’re stronger than anyone I’ve ever met” Her eyes found mine again.
“Stay,” she whispered.
“I’m not going anywhere”
The next wave hit. Her grip tightened and her body tensed before she pushed.
“That’s it! Again!” the midwife urged.
Alisa cried out, pushing again, her entire body trembling with the effort. I stayed with her through every second of it, murmuring to her and holding her, when she looked like she might break.
“You’re doing so well,” I said softly, though my own voice was strained. “I’ve got you. Just a little more.”
Time blurred and then a sharp, unmistakable sound pierced the air.
A cry.
Everything stopped for me. I froze, my heart slamming hard against my ribs as the sound echoed again. The midwife’s face broke into a smile.
“It’s a boy.”
For a moment, I couldn’t move.
A boy.
My gaze snapped to the small, wriggling form now in the midwife’s arms.
My son.
Mine and Alisa’s.
I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding, something unsteady and almost disbelieving. Alisa sagged slightly, exhausted, her grip loosening.
“Lucian…” she whispered.
I turned back to her instantly, brushing the damp strands of hair from her face.
“You did it” I murmured. “You did it, Alisa.”
A faint, tired smile touched her lips. But before the moment could settle, she gasped. Then cried out again. My head snapped up, my body going rigid as panic surged back just as quickly as it had left.
“What’s wrong?” I demanded, my voice sharp, protective.
The midwife, who had just begun to move, paused—then her eyes widened slightly as she looked back at Alisa.
“Wait…”
Alisa screamed again and my heart dropped.
“No—no, something’s wrong” I said, my grip tightening on her hand. “Fix it. Do something.”
But the midwife wasn’t panicking. If anything, she looked… surprised. Then she smiled again.
“There’s another one” I blinked.
“What?”
Alisa let out another cry, her body tensing again. The midwife moved quickly now.
“She needs to push again”
I stared at her, my mind struggling to catch up.
Another?
Twins?
My gaze snapped back to Alisa, who looked just as shocked but there was no time to process it.
“Alisa…” I said urgently, pulling her attention back to me. “Look at me”
Her eyes met mine, wide and overwhelmed.
“One more” I said gently
“Just one more. You can do this”
A tear slipped down her temple as she nodded weakly. The next contraction came fast. She screamed again and pushed. I didn’t let go or look away.
“Again!” the midwife urged.
Alisa cried out, pushing with everything she had left and then another cry filled the room. It was softer this time. I felt something inside me break open completely.
“It’s a girl” the midwife announced.
A girl.
My little princess
A boy and a girl.
My children.
Alisa collapsed back against the pillows, utterly spent, her breathing uneven but slow. I stood there, still holding her hand, my chest rising and falling heavily as I tried to steady myself. I had never felt like this before.
“They’re perfect” the midwife said gently, placing the babies where they could see them. I stepped closer, almost hesitant now. My gaze dropped to them.
They were so small and fragile. Yet their presence made my heart ache. My son shifted slightly, letting out a small sound, and I felt something tighten painfully in my throat.
“And their names?” the midwife asked softly. I didn’t answer immediately. My eyes moved to Alisa. She looked at me, exhausted but glowing in a way that stole the words right out of my mouth.
“Ailan” she whispered first, her gaze drifting to our son. I repeated it quietly, tasting the name.
“Ailan…”
It felt right.
Then her eyes shifted to our daughter. A soft, emotional smile touched her lips.
“Lucia”
This time, my breath caught. My gaze snapped to her. She held it, something deep and unspoken passing between us. She named our children after us.
Ailan and Lucia.
A slow smile formed on my face as I looked back at our children.
“Our son, Ailan” I murmured. My gaze softened further as it moved to our tiny girl.
“And our daughter, Lucia”
I reached out carefully, my finger brushing lightly against Lucia’s small hand. She curled her fingers around it instantly and that made me smile.
I looked back at Alisa, something fierce settling in my chest.
“You gave me everything. Thank you” I said quietly.
“I love you” Ailsa whispered
“I love you and our children more”
