Chapter 88: Send Lila Away
Taking care of him personally as a son?
Wasn't that referring to him?
Bethany knew Lila wasn't lacking care—she just wanted to cause trouble.
Any normal person would be upset hearing this, but Bethany had dealt with Lila for years and had plenty of ways to handle her.
"Mom, your room is a single room. Where's this 'bed next door' you're talking about?"
Lila froze!
All the words she'd prepared got stuck. After a long pause, she cursed Bethany for being unfilial.
"You got a wife and forgot your mother! I don't know what spell Aurora cast on you. Let me tell you, you can always get another wife, but you only have one mother in this lifetime!"
The smile completely disappeared from Bethany's face. Even Aurora beside him noticed his mood change and looked over.
"Mom, I don't want to say this twice. I've already picked out a nursing home in Novia for you. If you keep making unreasonable scenes like this, you'll go there to rest. Don't worry, I'll send Esme along to keep you company."
When Lila heard that Bethany would actually send her away just to protect Aurora, she panicked!
"Bethany! How dare you treat me like this! I'm your mother! Let me tell you, given my relationship with your father, I can't leave the country."
Because of Marcus's sensitive position, even Lila needed strict approval to go abroad. It wasn't that easy.
More importantly, at her age, once she was sent away, she'd never have a chance to come back.
"Don't worry about that. Dad knows about my decision. If the Windsor family wants to send someone abroad, you really think there's no way?"
Hearing his cold words, Lila panicked.
"Bethany, you can't do this to me. I'm this old already. I just want to live out my years peacefully. You can't treat your mother like this."
Even though Bethany had heard these words until his ears had calluses, he still felt uncomfortable.
"I think you've been fooled by that Catherine. Did Catherine say things behind your back? She bullied Esme, and we're just letting it go? Bethany, you're my son. I wouldn't harm you. That Catherine is not a good person!"
Bethany couldn't listen anymore.
Why, even at this point, did Lila still insist Catherine had done something wrong?
"Enough! Mom, Catherine's already had it hard enough. Why can't you just be nice to her?"
Lila dismissed this with a scoff.
"Be nice to her? Does she deserve it? Bethany, you don't know—even the family that adopted her said there was something wrong with her. A million dollars mysteriously disappeared from my account. I bet Catherine did it!"
The Smith family were greedy, sneaky, and completely heartless. And Lila believed what they said?
Lila kept rambling on the phone, constantly badmouthing Catherine, basically repeating everything she'd heard from Oliver.
Bethany's heart grew colder and colder.
"Stop talking. Mom, I'll start arranging to send you and Esme to Novia right away. Get ready. This isn't up for discussion. The environment here is chaotic and bad for your health. The nursing home in Novia has better conditions."
After saying this, Bethany hung up. He didn't want to hear another word from Lila.
Aurora sat beside him. "Are you really sending her to Germany? Lila's getting old, and Marcus's position makes it inconvenient for her to go abroad."
Bethany held her hand and took out a document.
"Dad's been ready to divorce Mom for a while now. He's just worried she couldn't handle it at this age, so he's been holding off on the paperwork. He's already reported it to the higher-ups."
Aurora was just learning that Marcus had already signed divorce papers with Lila!
Bethany sighed.
If Lila hadn't gone too far, he wouldn't have decided to send her away so quickly.
As soon as he hung up, Lila completely panicked.
How could Bethany be so heartless!
She was his real mother!
It must be Aurora saying things she shouldn't have said to Bethany, driving a wedge between mother and son.
She couldn't be sent away so easily. Once she left, Esme would have no chance of marrying into the Howard family.
Esme panicked too.
She didn't want to go abroad, especially not with Lila. She was still young with plenty of time ahead. What was the point of staying with an old woman?
"Grandma, what do we do now? If we go abroad, we'll never see Grandpa and my brothers again. What about my marriage to Alexander?"
Lila thought carefully and pulled out her phone to call Alexander.
She'd gotten this number by sneaking a look at Marcus's phone when he wasn't paying attention.
They'd been together for most of their lives, yet Marcus guarded against her like she was a thief!
As soon as the call connected, Lila's tone became warm and friendly.
"Mr. Howard? Is that you? I'm Catherine's grandmother. I wanted to ask if you have time to come see me. I'm also at Bright Heal Hospital. Catherine really should have brought her fiancé to visit me."
Since she was Catherine's grandmother after all, Alexander agreed.
"Alright, I'll visit Mr. Windsor at the hospital tomorrow and come see you as well."
"Great!"
After hanging up, Lila's eyes gleamed.
"Esme, I don't believe that after Alexander learns Catherine's true colors, he'll still trust her. I think he's just been too polite to break things off with Catherine because of the Windsor family. Once I tell him everything, he'll definitely know who the right woman for him is."
Lila was very confident.
Someone like Alexander would definitely choose the most suitable partner.
Esme, whom she'd personally raised, was the perfect person to marry Alexander.
"As long as I can get you married to Alexander, I won't have to be sent away."
Esme was thrilled!
Thinking about seeing Alexander tomorrow, her face lit up with a bright smile.
Early the next morning, a large group appeared at Lila's hospital room door.
Annie knocked with gifts in hand, followed by a crowd of bodyguards.
As soon as she saw Annie, Esme rolled her eyes.
This Annie was clearly no good, always hanging around Alexander. Just looking at her was annoying.
"Mrs. Windsor, this is a gift from Mr. Howard."
Lila didn't have a pleasant expression for Annie either. "Where's Alexander?"
Annie smiled. "He's having breakfast with Ms. Windsor. They'll come see you together in a bit."
The handkerchief in Esme's hand was nearly twisted to shreds!
What time was it, and Alexander was having breakfast with Catherine?
Was she really that desperate for one meal?
Lila was also thinking—if he was having breakfast with her this early, did Alexander actually care about Catherine?
This wasn't good news.
"I only said I wanted to see Alexander alone. Tell Catherine to go back."
She didn't want to see that annoying Catherine!
