Chapter 63: Truly an Obedient Child
The person on the other end of the phone had no idea that because of these few words, the entire organization's workload had exploded overnight.
"Boss, you're so ruthless. You're even charging your own fiancé money. When you competed with him for jobs before, was that your way of dating?"
Catherine couldn't help herself.
"Get lost. I want to see the latest data on Reagent No. 3 by tomorrow morning."
A piercing scream came from the other end of the phone!
"Just because we interrupted your date, you're making us stay up all night. That's heartless!"
Afraid that more experimental data would be added, Dubhe quickly hung up and blocked Catherine's number.
The smile on Alexander's face deepened, and a low hum flowed from his chest, incredibly sexy.
"So you like this kind of dating? Then Shadow Syndicate will work with Faceless Ones more often in the future, creating more opportunities for us to date."
Like what?
How is this a date?
Catherine looked at him with confusion and said flatly, "Why did you bid on the order?"
"I'm not that generous. I don't want my fiancée treating other men."
"Your grandfather is also a man."
Alexander couldn't argue with that.
"Doesn't he count? Then next time I'll tell Mr. Howard you said he's not a man."
The smile on Alexander's face was completely choked off by her words. His handsome face showed a rare look of embarrassment, with crimson moisture at the corners of his eyes. On his exceptionally good-looking face, it could even be called somewhat beautiful.
The corners of Catherine's mouth curved up slightly, revealing a triumphant smile!
Alexander was just petty. She was a doctor - when treating patients, why should gender matter? He was just looking for trouble!
"How do you know Ethan is treating a man?"
Alexander reached up to remove his gold-rimmed glasses and handed them to Catherine. "Help me clean them. I can't see the road clearly."
"Plain glasses need cleaning too? I think you can see more clearly without them."
"They're special glasses."
Catherine took them and looked. Holding the lenses at an angle, a thin data panel appeared before her eyes - it was actually a miniature surveillance device!
This device was one that Galactic Aurora Collective had developed and sold at a high price on the black market. She hadn't expected Alexander to have bought it.
All of Galactic Aurora Collective's data came from her work, so seeing this monitor, Catherine understood what Alexander meant.
"You installed surveillance on Ethan?"
"Aren't you doing the same? I told you, we're always on the same wavelength."
Catherine was silent for a moment, then took out her handkerchief and carefully cleaned the lenses before handing them back to Alexander.
"My people aren't there to spy on Ethan. They're looking for the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage."
Ethan had taken the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage, and Galactic Aurora Collective's people had been tracking them all along.
Alexander really enjoyed watching her carefully clean his glasses. In the night, Catherine lowered her head slightly, her lashes covering her star-like eyes, giving him more time to look at her.
Thinking about how this quiet and elegant appearance was for cleaning his glasses, Alexander's heart softened, feeling a long-lost warmth!
This was all Catherine's magic, always making him want to be close to her.
He put on his glasses and drove the car toward the city.
"My people got close to Ethan. The one arrested with Eli is Ethan's brother, and he has another brother dying from a terminal illness. That's the real reason he's been desperately searching for Phantom Doctor Moon lately."
"Yes, when he approached Eli before, it seemed like he was trying to make money in Stellara, but he was actually after the Dream grass in Eli's hands. I analyzed the components of Dream grass, and it can indeed work as a catalyst for some cancers."
"So he definitely won't give up. Be careful these next few days."
Catherine nodded. She always had a team following her, so it wouldn't be that easy for Ethan's people to get close to her.
"So let me pick you up and drop you off lately. Otherwise I won't feel at ease."
Catherine was silent.
Lately, besides taking turns keeping her brothers company, she video called Richard who was filming and Juniper who was doing experiments every day. When she had time, she went to Bright Heal Hospital to play chess with Marcus and his friends. Where would she need him to drive her around?
"You haven't taken your driver's test yet. Let me be your personal driver, how about it?"
Catherine glanced at him flatly. "If you have a hobby of being a driver, register an account and you can make money on the side."
"You're already planning for me? How thoughtful! Don't worry, I'm pretty good at making money. I won't let you go hungry in the future. The Moon order I just accepted counts as your consultation fee. When you need money for Grandpa's medicine, come to me, okay?"
Catherine said nothing.
Was that what she meant?
"If you run into any danger, remember to come to me too, okay?"
When real danger comes, would there even be time to find him?
Alexander drove the car onto a small road and stopped under a dim streetlight. He suddenly leaned over, propping one hand on the car window beside Catherine, looking at her with an overwhelming sense of pressure.
"Catherine, I know you've always been very independent and capable. You're different from ordinary girls. But now you have family. If possible, I hope you can trust me. What the Windsor family can give you, I can give you. What the Windsor family can't give you, I still can."
His voice carried a low, seductive quality, like a siren singing softly on the shore.
"For example, I can turn both my embrace and my back toward you."
Catherine's eyes widened slightly, her long lashes trembling.
They were both assassins. They both knew that your back is only shown to your most trusted life-and-death partner!
"So, try to trust me, depend on me, and try to think of me, even just a little. When you need it, let me come pick you up, okay?"
His tone was somewhat hurt, as if accusing her, yet also as if pleading, making Catherine's heart soften.
"Okay, I understand."
Alexander smiled and patted her head, his palm carrying a slightly moist warmth. Only he knew how nervous he had been just now facing Catherine so closely. If he weren't afraid of scaring Catherine, he would have wanted to do something even more bold.
But not yet. She was still too young and would be afraid of him.
Alexander praised her generously, "Good girl."
Bright Heal Hospital in Imperia City
In Lila's hospital room, Aurora looked at Lila, who was dozing off, and quietly shifted her feet after standing for two hours.
She'd been called over early in the morning, told nothing, and just made to stand there!
Every time Lila was in a bad mood, she would torment her like this. Aurora was somewhat used to it.
"Aurora, when did you get here? Did I ask you to come?"
Aurora was a bit confused. What new way had Lila thought of to torment her?
"Mom, you called me early this morning saying you wanted the porridge from home and asked me to bring it to you."
The porridge sat beside Lila, giving off a rich aroma that made one's mouth water just from the smell.
Lila's expression was somewhat confused, having completely forgotten that she had called Aurora over.
"Bring it to me."
Aurora held the porridge, preparing to feed it to Lila.
But Lila reached out her hand and knocked the bowl out of Aurora's hands onto the floor!
"Get out! You're trying to hurt me! You poisoned the food, I'm calling the police!"
