Chapter 5 Medical Dispute: The Doctor Prescribed the Wrong Medication
Catherine froze for a moment, then frowned slightly. "Marriage arrangement? Doesn't the family have other daughters?"
"Ms. Juniper Windsor said she's not part of the Windsor family and doesn't deserve to take your place in the engagement. Mr. Windsor has made it clear - what's yours, no one can take away!"
Dylan took a phone call, speaking respectfully with the person on the other end for a few moments. After hanging up, he looked at Catherine.
"Ms. Catherine Windsor, before you go home, Mr. Marcus Windsor would like you to visit him. As you know, his health isn't good, and he's been thinking about you for many years."
Catherine had no objections and nodded. "Alright, but the gift I prepared for him hasn't arrived yet. Wouldn't it be inappropriate to go empty-handed?"
Dylan quickly waved his hands. "Your willingness to go is what matters. Mr. Windsor doesn't care about those things."
Marcus had lived so many years - what good things hadn't he seen?
What Dylan was more worried about was Catherine refusing to go.
The fact that she thought ahead to prepare a gift for Marcus was already impressive.
Given how poor the Smith family seemed - living in such a small villa - Dylan didn't expect Catherine could come up with anything particularly nice anyway.
But Catherine's words showed grace and propriety, polite and respectful yet neither humble nor arrogant, which greatly improved Dylan's impression of her.
This bearing - truly worthy of the Windsor family!
"Alright, I'll take you there right now."
Half an hour later, the helicopter was replaced by a regular car, smoothly entering Bright Heal Hospital in Imperia City.
Dylan handed Catherine a piece of paper with a room number written on it.
"Ms. Catherine Windsor, Mr. Marcus Windsor doesn't like crowds. I'm going to wash the car, so please go up yourself. I'll wait for you here!"
Marcus had a bad temper, and after falling ill in recent years had become somewhat difficult. Dylan looked at Catherine apologetically.
Catherine took the paper and nodded calmly. "Okay."
Just as she reached the third floor, several children in the hallway knocked over a nurse's medication cart. The small cart full of medical equipment came rolling straight toward Catherine!
"Watch out!"
The nurses cried out in alarm.
"Oh no, that cart has the medication for bed three. If it spills, we're in trouble."
Catherine was about to dodge when she heard the nurses' conversation.
Bed three?
Wasn't that Marcus's bed number?
The cart was out of control, speeding toward Catherine.
In the chaos, Catherine shifted her feet, gently braced her knee against the cart, and steadied it perfectly.
Not a drop of medicine spilled!
The nurses were stunned!
"Are you okay?"
Catherine shook her head. Just as she was about to return the cart to the nurses and had barely steadied herself, a plump middle-aged woman rushed at her.
The woman reached out to grab Catherine's arm, but she dodged at a speed invisible to the naked eye.
The woman missed, then took advantage of Catherine's distraction to grab her clothes, her voice so loud the entire floor of patients could hear.
"Come judge this for us! Bright Heal Hospital killed someone, how are we supposed to live!"
"Bright Heal Hospital killed my son and won't take responsibility, you be the judge!"
The woman started wailing at the top of her lungs.
"Bright Heal Hospital, give me back my son! Give me back my son's life!"
"Quack doctors killed someone, your hospital needs to pay for my son's life!"
Patients came out to watch from every room.
The medical staff were used to this. A nurse quickly came over to try to pull Catherine away.
The woman shoved the nurse to the ground and wailed, "Oh God! How could my son be so unlucky!"
The nurse was fed up and frowned. "Patient's family member, you signed the surgical agreement before the operation. The patient died from wound infection due to improper post-operative care. What does that have to do with our hospital?"
The woman's voice got even louder, making Catherine's eardrums buzz.
"Nothing to do with it? You say it has nothing to do with it?! My son died in your hospital! Quack doctors killed my son, they should pay with their lives!"
The woman normally spoke by shouting, full of energy and vigor. After this round of yelling, the medical staff were miserable.
After shouting, the woman pulled out a prescription, sat down on the floor, and continued wailing.
"Why won't any of you believe me? It is your hospital's fault!"
The nurse was disgusted but couldn't just throw her out.
"Stop talking nonsense. Security, get her out of here!"
The woman just lay on the floor throwing a tantrum, clearly not leaving until the hospital gave her an explanation.
A cool voice sounded above the woman's head.
"Is this your son's medication? There's a problem with this prescription."
The woman's crying stopped abruptly!
She looked up to see Catherine looking calmly at the prescription in her hand, her cool gaze like water, yet stirring up ripples.
The woman got excited, her voice even louder. "I knew someone would see it! Finally someone's standing up for me! It was Bright Heal Hospital's quack doctors who killed my son!"
This woman came every few days. The medical staff on the entire floor were sick of it, fed up with this kind of malicious medical dispute.
The doctor looked at Catherine with hostility.
"Miss, you can't just say things like that. What makes you say there's a problem with our hospital's prescription?"
"How old are you, talking nonsense? Can you even understand this prescription? Do you know what the patient's symptoms were?"
Catherine glanced at her, her gaze calm.
"Licorice inhibits the synthesis and release of prostaglandins and the activity of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, raising the patient's blood pressure. This is common knowledge. This prescription has too much licorice, which raised the patient's blood pressure and led to death."
Meeting her eyes, the nurse was taken aback.
"You're just a high school student, and you're talking to me about common knowledge? This prescription was written by an expert team!"
This little girl read a few books and thinks she actually knows medicine?
If they didn't teach her a lesson, she probably wouldn't know what respect means!
An elderly voice came through.
"Enough, what's all this noise?"
The doctors and nurses immediately fell silent, looking respectfully at the old man standing in the doorway.
He wore a hospital gown, gripping a cane, naturally commanding respect.
The nurse's eyes darted around.
"Mr. Windsor, it's the family member from room eight causing trouble again. This girl is insisting there's a problem with our hospital's medication!"
"All of room eight's medications were personally decided by Dr. Davis, very authoritative."
"She might be a spy who snuck in. I suggest having security take her away!"
Marcus snorted coldly, dignified and imposing.
"If spies can get in, does your hospital's security want to keep their jobs?"
The medical staff moved quickly, trying to grab Catherine's arm to escort her out.
Catherine shifted her feet, using her calves to propel herself away. The nurse didn't even touch her clothes.
The woman blocked Catherine with her body.
"I dare you to try! Anyone who touches this girl, I'll die right here for you to see!"
The medical staff's heads were about to explode. A family member causing a medical dispute plus a girl talking nonsense - the scene was complete chaos.
"Hurry up and throw them out!"
"Coming here talking nonsense, there's definitely something wrong with her!"
Catherine was silent.
She just casually mentioned that the prescription made a basic error. Why were these people acting crazy?
Catherine's gaze was calm. "Gavin is so great? He makes basic errors too."
She remembered that name. Just last month he'd emailed inviting her to join their team. She thought there was no room for development and declined.
Gavin had gone crazy trying to contact her after seeing several SCI papers she published in the top medical journal NEJM.
Those papers were things she'd written casually when she had nothing else to do.
Her one sentence successfully angered all the surrounding doctors!
Gavin was a leader in the current medical field, an authority on cardiovascular diseases, recipient of the Stellara National Medal, with tremendous weight in the medical community.
And now he was being questioned by a little girl!
"What are you saying? How dare you question Dr. Davis?"
Catherine said calmly, "I can contact Gavin and have him admit his own mistake."
