Chapter 39: How Could Alexander Be So Cruel to Her!
Catherine said calmly, "I know you didn't prescribe it, but if you don't come, this medication will become your responsibility if something goes wrong later."
Cold sweat dripped down Gavin's forehead!
Who was Lila? She was Marcus's wife!
If something happened under his care, his career would be over.
Just thinking about it made Gavin break out in a cold sweat!
"How did this medication end up in Lila's pills?"
"The nurse said she added it herself, but you know Vitality Pills are hard to find even on the black market. Our country strictly controls this drug."
Gavin nodded and frowned. "You're right. Even with my connections, it's difficult to get this medication, let alone an old lady in her seventies or eighties."
Because this drug was so hard to obtain, if anything happened to Lila, it would be entirely his fault as her attending physician!
"I'd like you to give Lila a full examination. Based on my observations, she's having some mental issues."
When Lila had just fallen asleep, she was still muttering in her dreams about whether Marcus was cheating on her!
At her age, still worrying about her husband cheating—that was likely a sign of Alzheimer's disease.
Gavin nodded.
"Okay, I'll examine her shortly. But what about this medication?"
Just looking at the pills in his hand made Gavin nervous!
Catherine glanced at him coolly.
"I replaced them with candy beans this morning. She didn't notice. Just find something similar to substitute. Don't let the patient take them anymore."
"Okay. What are you doing here? Did the Windsor family ask you to examine Lila? Want to join my lab? We have great benefits!"
Catherine fell silent.
The reason Gavin had been blocked by Catherine so many times was because he talked way too much!
Tired of it, she made up an excuse: "I joined George's lab. You can shut up now."
She'd just give George a heads-up later.
Gavin was shocked.
What a shame!
In the hospital room, Gavin said to Lila, who had just woken up: "Mrs. Lila Windsor, let's do a more detailed examination today. Mrs. Marcus Windsor has already had one done."
After spending time with Lila, Gavin had figured out her personality.
Whenever he mentioned Marcus having some examination, Lila would always want the same one.
Sure enough, as soon as Gavin said this, she immediately extended her hand.
"Thank you."
While examining her, Gavin asked cheerfully, "Lila, I noticed a very special medication in your pills. Did you request to have it added?"
Lila trusted Gavin's medical skills completely.

"Esme brought it. She said she found it especially for me. And you know what? After taking it, I feel so much better all over!"
Esme brought it?
The medication was indeed good, but while it made you feel strong and healthy at first, taking too much could be fatal.
How did Esme get Vitality Pills?
"Esme is so thoughtful and caring, unlike some people..."
As she spoke, she glared viciously at Catherine standing in the corner.
So inconsiderate! She was being examined, and Catherine just stood there watching without helping!
If Esme were here, she'd be running around taking care of her!
After the examination, Gavin gave Catherine a meaningful look.
"Lila, the results will be ready tomorrow. You're very healthy right now."
"Thank you. Catherine, see Gavin out."
"Okay."
The two walked out together.
Lila watched their backs as Gavin continued talking to Catherine, her brow furrowing sharply.
Gavin was usually so aloof. Whenever Esme was here, he wouldn't say more than necessary beyond explaining how to care for her health.
Why was Gavin so chatty with Catherine?
Was there something wrong with her health that Gavin didn't dare tell her?
Not telling her, but telling Catherine—it must be Aurora's arrangement!
The more Lila thought about it, the more sense it made. She grabbed the glass in her hand and smashed it down!
"You all want to see me die! But I won't let you have your way! Aurora, I'm not done with you!"
Screams erupted one after another.
Gavin stood at the hospital room door, just discussing Lila's condition with Catherine, when chaos broke out inside!
He could hear the caregiver trying to calm Lila down.
Catherine said calmly, "We can confirm the diagnosis now. Early-stage Alzheimer's, severe case, irreversible."
Lila had very serious paranoid delusions.
Just from that, her condition wasn't mild.
Gavin sighed.
"I understand. I'll arrange to adjust Lila's medication."
"Thanks."
The most expensive area in Imperia City, The Howard Tower.
The towering buildings were impressive. The Howard Group's office buildings lined up in a row, occupying the entire complex. Everywhere you looked was Howard family property.
Esme wore an exaggerated dress, still insisting on carrying a lace-trimmed parasol even in the office building, arguing with the receptionist.
"I'm Alexander's fiancée. How dare you not let me in? Just wait until I marry in—I'll have you fired first thing!"
The receptionist maintained a polite smile.
"I'm sorry, you don't have an appointment. I can't let you in."
"Who cares about appointments! I need to go in now! Call Alexander—he'll definitely let me up!"
The receptionist kept her professional smile: "You can also contact Mr. Howard yourself."
Esme wanted to call Alexander, but he had blocked her number!
Today Catherine was called to take care of Lila, and she didn't want to spend the whole day in that boring hospital room with Lila.
But when she came to The Howard Tower, this damn receptionist wouldn't let her in!
Esme was furious!
Plus, The Howard Group had plenty of young, pretty female employees. Once she married Alexander, she'd have them all fired!
Alexander came down from the private elevator, elegant and composed.
Esme's eyes lit up when she saw Alexander!
She glared at the receptionist and rushed over.
"Alexander, I came to pick you up from work! Let's go shopping together!"
Alexander didn't even look at her, saying coldly, "Security, throw her out. From now on, if anyone unrelated to The Howard Group enters The Howard Tower, you're all fired."
Security immediately rushed over, pulled Esme away, and threw her out!
Esme was heartbroken.
How could Alexander be so cruel to her!
She had already told him how she felt about him!
She didn't believe it! Alexander just didn't know how great she was. Once he knew, he'd definitely change his mind.
