Chapter 387: Felix's Sudden Illness and Rescue
Chapter 387: Felix's Sudden Illness and Rescue
It must be because he's too worried that Charles is being tricked by a cunning person like Emma.
Yes, that must be it!
Philip firmed up his thoughts, even more convinced he wasn't wrong.
Charles's study door was slightly ajar.
"Philip, come in for a moment."
Philip thought Charles had seen him embarrass himself earlier and would definitely scold him, so he quickly prepared to slip away.
"Charles, I'm sleepwalking... I just saw Alexander seems to be in Catherine's room, I'll go kick him out."
Alexander and Catherine were already engaged, what's wrong with him being in her room?
Besides, after learning that Quinn Couture was Catherine's brand, Charles felt quite at ease about her.
Catherine knew what she wanted and wouldn't do anything against her own interests.
As long as she trusted Alexander, Charles was willing to trust Catherine's choice.
Charles said calmly, "Come in. Don't make me say it a third time."
Charles had raised everyone in the Windsor family by himself, and he commanded even more authority at home than Brandon did.
Philip had no choice but to shuffle in dejectedly.
"Charles, I didn't mean to say that about Ms. Kate earlier. I know I was wrong, I'll go apologize."
Charles looked at Philip standing before him.
He'd heard everything earlier. "Good that you know you're wrong. Don't let this happen again. As a woman controlling a family, Ms. Kate already faces enough doubt. People from the Windsor family can't be so careless with their words."
Given the Windsor family's status, many people flattered them!
If such a discussion got out, wouldn't that be spreading rumors?
As a young woman, Emma couldn't handle such unwarranted disasters.
His words were somewhat harsh, and Charles's face rarely showed anger.
"Half a year's allowance will be deducted. Transfer the deducted amount to Catherine and Juniper yourself. As for how to get Ms. Kate's forgiveness, that's your business."
"Okay."
Even though he was already independent and commanding in the outside world, sweeping through courtrooms, Philip could only bow his head when facing Charles.
The deducted money wasn't much, but being docked pay at his age meant Charles was disciplining him.
Charles pointed to the chair in front of him.
"Sit down."
"I wouldn't dare."
"Sit down and get the medical kit to treat your foot."
Philip looked at the swollen red mark on his foot and obediently sat down to take out disinfectant from the medicine box.
"Tell me about Gabriella's case."
Philip said cautiously, "Charles, is Gabriella... going to be your wife?"
Meeting Charles's cold gaze, Philip swallowed. "If yes, then it's a family matter. If not, it's client confidentiality, Ican't say anything."
Charles pressed his brow, making no comment on Philip's professional ethics.
He opened the innermost compartment of his drawer and tossed out a wedding invitation to Philip.
It was a wedding invitation Charles had prepared years ago but never had the chance to send out before Gabriella left.
Philip looked at the photo and names on it, then carefully checked the date, understanding dawned on him.
"What? Gabriella is the woman who rejected you back then! I've been wondering who would be bold enough to turn down someone as good as you!"
"Philip, do you want more money deducted?"
Philip shuddered and stopped worrying about the 'client confidentiality.'
"Gabriella's family has some troubles. She wants to reclaim her father's inheritance to settle her mother, then take her sister abroad to live permanently and never come back."
"Her mother, I've met her. She's obsessed with suppressing her two daughters, hoping they'll do worse than her. Classic narcissistic personality disorder."
"Gabriella has already done very well. She wants to break free from her mother but can't completely abandon her, so she plans to reclaim her father's inheritance."
Charles held a pen in his hand, spinning it between his slender, well-defined fingers.
"Her mother's condition—she could be sent to a psychiatric hospital, right?"
"Very difficult. Narcissistic personalities are good at pretending. She'll act like there's nothing wrong with her. It'll be hard to get a diagnostic report."
Charles pressed his brow, his eyes burning as he looked at Philip.
"Can you do it?"
Philip met Charles's sharp gaze and instantly understood his meaning!
"I'll ask George, but as a lawyer, I believe sending a mentally ill person for treatment is appropriate. It's a lawyer's social responsibility!"
Charles nodded with satisfaction.
"Good, go prepare."
Philip agreed, then turned at the door and winked at Charles.
"Don't worry Charles, I won't let Gabriella emigrate and leave you single forever!"
"Get lost."
After being cursed at, Philip left with a grin.
Turning off the study light, the room fell into darkness, concealing Charles's somewhat complicated expression.
Charles sat in the pitch-black study, pressing his temples and letting out a deep sigh with a bitter smile.
"Charles, what are you doing?"
He'd let someone he should have cherished suffer so much alone where he couldn't see.
Youthful affection was too light, so light he arrogantly thought he could control everything.
Yet also too heavy, so heavy that after all these years, despite all the scenery and people he'd seen, he still only thought of that one person!
The devotion he once prided himself on seemed to have become a mirage, a foggy haze he couldn't see clearly or grasp!
But he wanted to see it, to have it.
He wanted to fish the moon from water, he wanted... to mend what was broken.
The next morning, at the Windsor Villa dining table.
Philip watched Alexander emerge from Catherine's room, his eyelid twitching violently.
"Alexander, I heard you climbed through the window again last night? I didn't know the chairman of the Howard Group had a hobby for rock climbing."
Alexander calmly pulled Catherine to sit down. "I also enjoy skydiving. Want to join me sometime, brother?"
Philip nearly choked on saliva at being called 'brother.'
He was clearly younger than Alexander.
Philip said through gritted teeth, "No thanks. Alexander, you should show some restraint. Catherine is still young and naive, don't lead her astray!"
Aurora said irritably, "Eat your breakfast! Hurry up and go to work when you're done! You're annoying just to look at!"
Philip and Richard were the only single ones in the house. Instead of finding partners for themselves, they were jealous of Catherine and Alexander's beautiful relationship.
Philip could only swallow his anger after being scolded.
Marcus was reading the newspaper. His sharp gaze swept across the faces at the table, familiar and unfamiliar alike, and he understood.
"Alright, eat. You're from the Kate family? You're more decent than your grandfather."
Marcus's words had hidden meaning, but Emma just smiled and agreed.
"Of course! My grandfather is short-sighted, but I'm different, I'm wise and mighty!"
Marcus muttered under his breath, "Just as shameless, though."
Annie's call came through.
"Mr. Alexander Howard, Mr. Felix Howard suddenly collapsed and has been sent for emergency treatment."
