Chapter 212 Alexander's Schemes

Chapter 212 Alexander's Schemes

Alexander's voice was a bit disoriented.

Catherine wanted to pull her hand back, but then remembered Alexander still had a wound on his wrist. If she tugged at it, it might bleed again, so she just let it be.

"Alexander?"

Alexander opened his eyes slightly, his gaze a bit hazy, but at least he was awake.

"Catherine? Wasn't I just dreaming? How are you here?"

Catherine didn't answer his question. She picked up the water glass from the nightstand and handed it to him.

"Take the fever medicine."

"Okay."

After watching Alexander take the fever medicine, Catherine helped him lie back down.

Those deep, bottomless eyes were now shining brightly, following Catherine's every move without looking away for even a moment.

Catherine felt her face getting hot under his gaze, and Annie's earlier words suddenly came to mind.

"Alexander wanted to go to Galactic Aurora Collective to find out about your past. He said even if he didn't investigate, you would go anyway."

Just because he thought those things were dangerous, he wanted to do it himself?

Catherine looked at the weakened Alexander before her. His face was pale, but the fever made his eyes moist and glistening, gazing at her with vulnerable, dewy eyes.

"I remember telling Annie not to bother you, but she still called you. Sorry for interrupting your sleep."

"Why didn't you want me to come?"

Alexander reached out to touch Catherine's face. The fever made his whole body hot, and his burning palm pressed against Catherine's cheek.

"Catherine, tell me, are you worried about me?"

He hoped Catherine would care about him, yet didn't want her to be distracted by him. But seeing her now, he wanted an answer.

Alexander narrowed his eyes slightly, a tender smile on his lips, like the moonlight still hanging high outside the window.

"If I ask you and find out you're not worried about me at all, I'm afraid my heart will break."

Alexander was half-joking, half-murmuring, his voice thick with exhaustion and affection.

Catherine's eyelashes trembled slightly as she pushed Alexander back under the covers.

"Go to sleep."

"Now you don't have to worry about your heart breaking. Your heart is just fine."

Whether it was exhaustion or happiness that came first, the medicine kicked in, making the corners of Alexander's mouth turn up.

Catherine said his heart wouldn't break—did that mean she was actually a little bit worried about him?

Catherine frowned slightly as she looked at Alexander falling back asleep.

Why did she feel like Alexander's fever wasn't caused by the wound, but by catching a cold?

His wound wasn't infected; the high fever seemed more like it was from getting drenched in cold water.

Annie's injuries were clearly more serious.

Catherine was still pondering when she felt Alexander holding her hand, pressing a burning kiss into her palm.

"Good night."

Catherine quickly pulled her hand back, yanked Alexander's blanket up to cover his face, and left the room in a fluster!

Annie, who had just left The Howard Mansion, glanced back toward Alexander's place.

"I wonder if Catherine will figure out that Alexander got himself a fever over such a minor injury?"

"Probably not!"

After all, the wound was real—the process was just a bit roundabout. As long as the result was the same, wasn't that enough?

The next morning.

Catherine came downstairs yawning and saw Aurora holding Emilia with a loving smile.

Seeing the burn marks all over Emilia's body, Aurora's eyes filled with tears of sympathy.

"Does it hurt? Don't worry, I know several plastic surgeons who can definitely fix this!"

"It's okay, George said he can heal it."

George, who was just coming downstairs, stumbled when he heard this, nearly missing the last step.

Philip asked in confusion, "Since when does George study burns? Changed research topics?"

George tried to stay composed and coughed twice. "Gavin has been researching it, so I'm learning from him."

Hearing that Gavin had a solution, Aurora felt relieved.

"That's wonderful! Gavin is amazing! Emilia, you should stay at our place for now. I'll cook you delicious food!"

The other Windsor family members showed no surprise at Emilia's arrival.

It was as if Emilia appearing at the Windsor family's dining table was perfectly natural.

However, when Alexander appeared at the breakfast table, the Windsor family members' expressions were less friendly.

Especially when they saw Alexander, with his wrist bandaged, having Catherine serve him food, their looks became rather strange.

Philip couldn't help himself and said through gritted teeth, "Mr. Howard, if you're not feeling well, maybe you should be in the hospital."

Brandon smacked him. "What's wrong with Alexander coming for a meal? You talk too much! Alexander, don't mind him. Eat more. How did you get hurt anyway?"

Alexander took the porridge Catherine had served him. "Thank you. Sorry to worry you. I just got hurt during an inspection at the project site. It's nothing serious."

Felix looked at Alexander with a cheerful smile.

"Since you're injured, don't go to the office for a few days. The company can run without you. Just stay home and keep Catherine company!"

He'd been unhappy for a while that Alexander only knew how to work and didn't spend time with Catherine!

Now he finally had a chance.

Marcus smiled at Felix.

"Alexander has it tough. You're not dead yet—go help Alexander at work for a few days!"

"Why should I go to work? How old am I? And I should help him work?"

Alexander caught Marcus's winking expression and smiled.

He deliberately said to Felix, "Grandpa, I still need to attend meetings and sign contracts."

Felix replied, "What contracts require you to go in person? I'll go check on things for a couple days! I don't believe anything major will go wrong with me there!"

"Then thank you."

Felix belatedly realized—how did he just agree to help Alexander work?

Was there anyone his age still going to the office?

But Alexander looked so pale and pitiful. Felix had managed The Howard Group for years—going to work just meant signing contracts and going through procedures. It wasn't a big deal.

Philip looked at Alexander, his head aching.

"Mr. Howard, it's not both your hands that are injured. You can still feed yourself, right?"

Why did Catherine need to feed him?

Philip found the scene painful to watch!

Alexander smiled innocently at Philip. "Eating with my left hand is inconvenient, so I have to trouble Catherine."

Inconvenient?

Philip clearly remembered that when he went to The Howard Group to discuss contracts, Alexander had signed with his left hand!

Someone who signed with his left hand was telling him eating was inconvenient?

But Alexander was a patient now, and Aurora glared at Philip.

"Stop making trouble! Just eat your food!"

Alexander took the spoon from Catherine's hand. "I can do it myself. I wouldn't want to keep you from eating."

"Call me if you need anything."

Philip rolled his eyes.

Alexander was definitely doing this on purpose!

Innocent Catherine had been fooled by Alexander!
