Chapter 178 The True Director of Angel's Haven Orphanage
Ethan was hanging upside down from the black tower of Ironclad Jail, his body covered in wounds without a single intact spot.
Catherine looked at Ethan and frowned. "Who are you?"
Ethan flew into a rage and lost his cool.
"Blackfire, are you serious? I had no idea you were Catherine! Last time it was Timothy who tried to kill your grandfather, not me! Because of that contract, you killed so many of my people! I should be the one asking you for compensation!"
Catherine shrugged.
"Oh, you're Ethan? Didn't recognize you. Besides, your people were too weak. And you want to ask me for compensation? How shameless is that?"
Timothy laughed mockingly. "His face is gone - I beat him so bad he's unrecognizable!"
Ethan was covered in injuries. He was already a big guy, but now he looked swollen all over, making him hard to recognize at first glance.
Ethan only recognized Catherine as someone from the Windsor family because he'd watched the birthday livestream the Windsor family held for Catherine while taking care of Matthew during his recovery.
He first recognized Alexander. When Ethan saw that familiar face at the Windsor family's birthday party, he completely lost it!
Alexander, the CEO of the Howard Group, was actually one of his enemies?
Then he saw Catherine standing next to Alexander, and from their intimate gestures, Ethan immediately figured out she must be from the Windsor family.
When he saw Catherine's familiar moves while shooting and beating up Danielle, Ethan, who had clashed with Faceless Ones multiple times, nearly had a breakdown!
Catherine was his other enemy too?
Ethan suddenly felt like all his work over the past few years had been for nothing.
What heir from a major family becomes a hitman for fun!
"You're the one who called me to Ironclad Jail! Now you've got me strung up - what do you want? Are you trying to take over Abyssal Blades?"
"Abyssal Blades? Not interested. Your people are all too ugly and too stupid. Taking them out would be embarrassing."
Although Faceless Ones members were all orphans Catherine had taken in at the border, and hitmen didn't need to rely on looks, they didn't have Abyssal Blades' weird aesthetic of turning themselves into transformers.
If she really had a bunch of bulky muscle men following her around, Catherine would find it embarrassing.
"Besides, I called you here to rescue someone. Don't you want your brother?"
Ethan was silent for a moment. "Can you let me down? Timothy, you've killed everyone I brought. There's nothing I can do now."
Timothy looked at Catherine, clearly asking for her opinion.
"Let him down. His brain's not working right anyway."
Catherine meant his brain wasn't working right medically.
A few years ago, she remembered Ethan had been slashed in the head and nearly died. From Ethan's complexion just now, there should still be quite a bit of blood clotting in his brain.
Ethan was let down and thrown by the pool.
Timothy's men pushed Matthew over in a wheelchair.
Timothy snorted coldly. "I'm not interested in beating up sick people. He looks half-dead already - no fun in that!"
Matthew sat in his wheelchair and bowed slightly to Timothy. "Timothy, sorry to trouble you."
He had a refined face with a slight smile at the corners of his mouth. His gaze slowly fell on Catherine, and Matthew smiled.
"Thank you for saving my life."
Catherine said flatly, "Moon saved you, not me."
"Of course, as long as you understand what I mean."
Catherine looked at Matthew in front of her, knowing he must have figured out she was Moon.
Matthew was indeed smarter than Ethan and Jacob.
Ethan: "Timothy, let's make a deal. Give us Jacob, and from now on you can do whatever you want with Abyssal Blades!"
Timothy rolled his eyes and turned to bring a chair over for Catherine.
"Come on Catherine, sit down. Standing is tiring! Alexander doesn't even know to get you a chair - useless. If you're not interested in him anymore, I'll find you someone better at Ironclad Jail. Ten guys if you want."
Catherine looked up at him and said coldly, "You want to introduce me to death row inmates? Drug lords or serial killers?"
Timothy awkwardly slapped his forehead.
He'd forgotten - there wasn't a single normal person in Ironclad Jail. Including himself, everyone here carried sins!
There really weren't any normal people to introduce to Catherine.
"Ethan, I won't waste words with you. If it weren't for orders from above, Jacob wouldn't have lived to see today. You really think with his nasty temper I'd let him live?"
Timothy had no patience for Ethan.
"You want to take him? Fine. Make him tell everything he should say! Then I'll let you take him."
Timothy's plan was perfect. According to Catherine, Jacob was terminally ill with only days to live anyway.
Even if Ethan took him away, it would just save Ironclad Jail the time of feeding Jacob to the fish.
But before Jacob left, he had to spill everything!
Timothy snorted, "Or if Jacob knows something, you guys can tell us - same thing!"
Catherine snapped her fingers.
"Timothy, how many times did you hire people to kill my grandfather?"
"Once. Is Marcus worth spending money on multiple times?"
Catherine looked meaningfully at Ethan. "Really? But I remember Abyssal Blades tried to kill my grandfather twice."
The second time was when Catherine happened to save Felix during one of his episodes.
The attackers were extremely well-prepared, planting bombs in the hospital room in advance and bribing medical staff. If anything had gone wrong, neither Felix nor Marcus would have survived.
Timothy said angrily, "Impossible! I only paid once. If it hadn't been Elodie's birthday that day, I wouldn't have even wanted to act! Too dirty!"
Alexander ruthlessly exposed the truth. "You just couldn't find an opportunity normally, right? The day you chose was also when the hospital guards were changing shifts."
It wasn't easy to attack Stellara's former general in Imperia City. Otherwise, Elodie had celebrated birthdays before - why hadn't Timothy acted then?
Timothy was extremely embarrassed, his face turning red.
"Shut up! Bring Jacob out. Whoever tells the truth gets to leave alive. Those who don't can go feed the sharks!"
Catherine looked at Matthew, who hadn't spoken.
"Jacob has already said what he should. The rest - you tell me!"
"Me? I think you've got the wrong person. I'm in poor health - what could I possibly know?"
Catherine shook her head, looking seriously at Matthew.
"You're the one Jacob and Ethan are desperately protecting. Whether it's Abyssal Blades or Angel's Haven Orphanage, I think you're the one who really calls the shots! Whether it's Angel's Haven Orphanage or Vinehill Hospital, you're the real director!"
From the first moment she saw Matthew, Catherine noticed he was different. Ethan's attitude toward him went beyond familial love - there was an unusual sense of awe!
That look in his eyes was different from how the Windsor family looked at her, but exactly the same as how Galactic Aurora Collective members looked at Catherine!
It was respect and reverence for a leader, the kind where they'd sacrifice themselves to protect him.
Matthew narrowed his eyes and smiled.
"I appreciate you thinking so highly of me, but you might have guessed wrong. I don't know anything."
Catherine covered her mouth.
"I forgot to tell you - during your surgery, we accidentally left something in your brain. What should we do about that? Does that count as medical malpractice?"
