Chapter 148: I Want You to Accompany Me All Day
Michael's tone grew more impatient.
"What exactly is it?"
Esme gripped the hem of her skirt, gathered her courage to stare at Michael's face, and spoke seriously.
"Have you ever heard of Vitality Pills?"
Michael sat up straight at once, looking at Esme in disbelief.
"Vitality Pills? Isn't that a legendary medicine? That's what you want to give me?"
Seeing Michael's reaction, Esme perked up.
"I can get Vitality Pills. If you're interested, we can still talk about our cooperation. I heard Anthony's health isn't good. If you can bring him Vitality Pills, your position in the Hughes family will surely rise."
If he could get Vitality Pills for Anthony, no one in the Hughes family could threaten his position.
Michael's eyes took on a hint of fervor.
"Deal."
At a police station in Imperia City.
Oliver sat in his wheelchair, looking pleadingly at the officer in front of him.
"Sir, everything we said is true! I was beaten up, our whole family almost died there, you can't just ignore this!"
"Do you have a lawyer?"
A lawyer? Now you need a lawyer to file a report?
They had injuries all over their faces—wasn't that enough evidence?
Why did they need a lawyer?
Oliver didn't have enough money to hire a defense lawyer. He hadn't even paid the lawyer's fee from when he discussed compensation with Martin.
Thinking about how he was once the richest man in the region and had ended up like this, Oliver ground his teeth in anger.
The officer said impatiently, "I've asked you many times already. You can't explain what actually happened, you just say you were beaten. The surveillance footage looks completely normal."
Oliver immediately spoke up: "The surveillance! Right, it was that person who pushed me out who beat me!"
The officer pointed at the surveillance screen, looking exasperated.
"Who pushed you? Didn't you wheel yourself out the door?"
Oliver looked and was completely stunned!
When that person was pushing his wheelchair, they weren't in the surveillance range. No wonder they had been standing in the corner the whole time.
Turns out they had planned to set him up all along!
Oliver and the Brown family members together couldn't remember what had happened. They just knew that when they closed their eyes and opened them again, they were all lying in the wilderness, nearly frozen to death!
Oliver also had a wound on his leg. When he saw it, he thought of Catherine's final expression when she looked at him, and his whole body trembled.
How had Catherine become so different from before?
After leaving the police station, Oliver looked at Celeste. "This was all Catherine's scheme. She must have become twisted after we kicked her out! No, we need to go to Tranquil County and find her family!"
Oliver was still thinking about the compensation from Tranquil County.
He had already found out that the compensation in Tranquil County was calculated per person. Catherine's family had so many people—she had four unmarried brothers alone—they must have received a lot of money.
The Smith family was barely making ends meet now.
He didn't believe that once they found Catherine's birth family, they could refuse to give them money!
Galactic Aurora Collective Lab.
Catherine looked at the report in front of her, frowning slightly.
The Galactic Aurora Collective lab had quite a bit of cooperation with the lab Juniper was in charge of.
From this data, there seemed to be some problems inside Juniper's lab.
"Boss, based on this data, there should be a small problem with the lab in Tranquil County. Should we send someone to check it out?"
Catherine put away the report. "No need, I'll go myself."
She had promised Juniper she would visit Tranquil County when she had time, and she could also check out the Windsor family's old house.
If she went to Tranquil County herself, she could quickly resolve any problems.
Catherine called Aurora to tell her about going to Tranquil County. When Aurora heard Catherine was going to see Juniper, she immediately agreed.
She was so pleased that the kids got along so well.
Before Catherine came home, Aurora had worried that Juniper and Catherine wouldn't get along well, and whoever was unhappy would make her sad. Now seeing the kids so close, Aurora felt like the happiest mother in the world!
She had two caring daughters!
"Great, I'll pack things for you, and lots of gifts for Juniper."
"Okay, I'll come home to get them later."
After chatting with Aurora for a bit, before Catherine hung up, she could still hear Aurora making arrangements to buy Juniper's favorite desserts to bring along.
When Catherine returned to the Windsor family home, she saw bags and packages all over the living room, and Aurora was still worried it wasn't enough.
"Catherine, think about what else we can bring? Juniper has been living in the lab the whole time, she looks so thin."
Before Catherine could answer, Aurora went back to get more things.
This scene made it look like Catherine was moving house.
"This should be enough now. Your grandfather is napping, so I won't wake him."
"Okay, I'll be back in a couple of days."
The Windsor family car was waiting nearby. Catherine got in with all the bags and headed toward Tranquil County.
Dylan said with a smile, "Ms. Windsor, it takes two hours to get there. You can rest first."
Catherine nodded and picked up the prepared materials to review. Based on her judgment, there should be some problems with the equipment in Juniper's lab.
The car had just left Imperia City when Catherine's phone rang.
Alexander's voice came through: "Remember you promised to have dinner with me? What do you want to eat?"
It was still a long time until late-night snack time. Alexander just wanted an excuse to talk to her.
If he didn't remind her, she would probably forget about it.
Catherine looked at the rapidly retreating scenery. "Sorry, I forgot."
She had already left Imperia City. Going back now to have dinner with Alexander was clearly impossible.
"It's okay. We agreed on a late-night snack, so remembering now isn't too late."
"I'm not in Imperia City. I probably can't make it anytime soon."
Alexander pressed his brow and stood up from his chair, walking to the tall floor-to-ceiling window. Outside, tall buildings stood and the river flowed, but none of it entered his vision.
His scenery was only her!
"Where did you go? Do you need me to come with you?"
"No need, I'm just going to Tranquil County to see Juniper."
Alexander's voice was somewhat bitter. "In your eyes, family is so important that you can forget your promise to me?"
It was indeed her fault for forgetting. Catherine pressed her lips together and gripped her phone tighter.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault. I'll have dinner with you when I get back."
"No," Alexander's voice sounded a bit aggrieved, though the corners of his mouth curved up slightly. "I want you to spend a whole day with me!"
Catherine had many things to do. Spending an entire day with Alexander would be difficult.
She had forgotten their agreement, which made him sad and upset. The words of refusal were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't say them.
Catherine could only nod and agree.
"Okay, I'll spend a whole day with you."
