Chapter 104: What Strange Games Are Played in the Office

Chapter 104: What Strange Games Are Played in the Office

Outside the operating room, it was dead silent.

No one spoke. Everyone stared at Esme, who had appeared out of nowhere, with confusion and wariness.

Alexander had promised Catherine he would ensure the surgery went undisturbed.

He lifted his eyelids slightly, his gaze cold and sharp. Undisguised killing intent spilled from his icy eyes as he stared at Esme with extremely low pressure.

"Get lost!"

Esme was startled by this side of Alexander!

Why was he being so fierce?

"Alexander, Catherine tricked you. She was just at this hospital too. She must have done something to betray you, otherwise why wouldn't she go to her own family's hospital?"

"My people saw Catherine go to the obstetrics department. She must be pregnant with another man's child! Don't let her fool you!"

Esme was so anxious that tears came out. She was desperate for Alexander to believe her.

Alexander was annoyed by her noise and didn't want her causing a scene that would affect Catherine.

He raised his hand, his index finger moving slightly.

Ethan, who had been crouching anxiously on the ground, suddenly stood up with overwhelming presence and murderous intent.

Right now, anyone who might affect his brother's surgery deserved to die!

Esme still remembered Ethan's face. The moment she saw him, she was so scared she fell on her butt!

"Alexander, this man kidnapped me before! He must be a bad guy! Why are you with him?"

Alexander didn't even glance at her. He looked at Ethan.

"If she affects the surgery, I don't need to spell out the consequences, do I?"

Ethan approached Esme step by step, his whole body making frightening cracking sounds.

He couldn't beat Alexander, but he refused to believe he couldn't handle this woman who came out of nowhere.

"Idiot."

Esme frantically scrambled backward, her feet kicking wildly on the ground.

Ethan picked her up from the floor, covered her mouth, and threw her over his shoulder.

Alexander said flatly, "Keep her alive, and don't break any limbs. Everything else is up to you."

How could he be so cold to her? Was this still the Alexander she liked?

He could be so gentle with Catherine, so why was he so mean to her?

Ethan was full of pent-up anger and worried about his brother in the operating room. He had no interest in this fool.

He threw her to his subordinates. "Deal with her. Don't let her disturb the surgery again."

"Yes!"

Several assassins carried Esme away, coming and going quickly. Her frantic struggling was useless.

It was over. Was she doomed?

The operating room light went out, and Catherine opened the door and walked out.

"What was that noise just now? What happened?"

When Alexander saw her come out, his eyes instantly became gentle.

"Nothing, it's been handled. How are you? Are you tired?"

Ethan also looked at Catherine with anticipation and nervousness!

"The surgery was successful so far. We need to observe the post-operative response. Don't worry, I'll be here for the next couple of days."

Since she had promised to save someone, she would see it through.

Ethan breathed a sigh of relief, tears streaming down his face as he knelt on the ground and began to pray.

"That's wonderful! This is truly wonderful!"

It was clear his brother was very important family to him.

Alexander's gaze was gentle. "You've worked hard. You must be hungry, right? I ordered food. Let's eat together."

Catherine nodded, gave instructions about post-operative care, and then left the operating room with Alexander.

"I know you must be tired, so please bear with eating in the office for now."

"Anywhere is fine."

Although she was tired from the surgery, she had heard the commotion outside. It hadn't been easy for Alexander guarding outside either.

Just the assassins sent by various shady organizations on the dark web—who knows how many waves he had dealt with. There was still blood on his wrist, next to the bright red ruby cufflinks, particularly striking.

Catherine changed out of her scrubs and took out a box from her pocket, handing it to Alexander.

Alexander's eyes filled with delight!

"Is this for me?"

"Yes. If you don't want it, forget it."

This was the first time Catherine had given him something—how could he not want it!

A pair of exquisite blue diamond cufflinks lay in the box, shining brilliantly, understated yet luxurious, like an elegant count in a medieval castle.

Inside the cufflinks was a very small logo. Alexander immediately recognized it as the work of the famous jewelry designer Zenith.

Zenith's jewelry designs were hailed as gems of the industry. Any design she produced would be bid up to astronomical prices.

Zenith didn't have many works, but each one was treasure-level.

He had never even seen this pair of cufflinks before!

Could Catherine know Zenith?

His fiancée was full of surprises!

"Thank you, I love them."

His clothes were stained with quite a bit of blood, so he had specifically changed into a fresh outfit. He extended his bare wrists toward Catherine.

"I got into too many fights just now. I'm out of strength. Help me out."

Catherine looked at him helplessly.

The refusal was on the tip of her tongue, but thinking about how he had fought personally to protect her, she could only pick up the cufflinks and put them on for him.

The office door was forcefully pushed open from outside.

George, gasping for breath, had imagined countless possibilities on his way over and was nearly scared to tears by his own vivid imagination!

"Catherine! What's wrong with you? No matter what the problem is, the Windsor family can solve it!"

"George? What are you doing here?"

George looked at the two people sitting in the office about to eat, and was stunned.

"Mr. Howard, what are you two doing here?"

George immediately felt uneasy!

Had Catherine been tricked by Alexander into playing some weird game?

Catherine was young!

She mustn't be led astray by Alexander!

George's mind was filled with ridiculous images. Seeing the scrubs thrown on the floor, his mind went blank!

"Catherine, what exactly were you doing here? Tell me wherever you're not feeling well."

"I came to see a friend. He just had brain surgery. George, why are you here?"

George pulled Catherine over and checked her carefully. After confirming Catherine had no external injuries, he was still a bit worried.

"Come back with me. Let's do a thorough examination."

"George, I'm really fine. I just came to see a friend. You're a doctor too—you'll know once you check on my friend."

"Then why didn't you tell anyone at home? I got a call from Esme saying you were sick. I was worried to death."

After confirming Catherine was okay, George finally relaxed, wishing his eyes could turn into X-rays to examine Catherine inside and out.

Looking at the food on the desk, George was very disdainful.

"Mr. Howard, you're not just giving Catherine this to eat, are you? Catherine, I'll take you to eat something good later."

The food actually didn't look bad—he just found Alexander annoying right now!

Alexander wanted to explain but didn't want to reveal more details.

He didn't want to share his and Catherine's secrets with the Windsor family people so soon.

"Speaking of which, where did Esme go? She said a friend was sick at this hospital and wanted me to help check on them. Why don't I see her?"

Alexander handed George a medical record.

After Esme was carried away, he had looked into why she appeared at this hospital.

Turns out it was because of someone from the Smith family.

George jumped up from his chair.

"Esme called me to treat this bastard? I say he deserves to be sick!"
