Chapter 33 Sienna’s POV
Chapter 33 Sienna’s POV
I waited until they were both standing in front of me, tension thick and they both looked like they wanted at each other's throats.
“Sit,” I commanded then
Kael blinked, clearly surprised by the sharpness in my tone, but he obeyed immediately, lowering himself onto the chair closest to me. Ronan hesitated for half a second longer, his jaw tightening, before he sat opposite Kael, posture rigid, eyes never leaving my face.
Good.
If we were doing this, we were doing it properly.
“I’m fine now,” I said, turning to Ronan first. “Physically. We have to focus on there stuff so stop arguing for fuck sake"
His mouth thinned. “Your safety is still a concern.”
I let out a short, humorless laugh. “You think I don’t know that?”
Kael shifted beside me, his knee brushing mine, a he pressed his hand against my knee and I drew strength from it before looking back at Ronan.
Who was staring at where his hand was with visible rage.
“You keep saying you had nothing to do with it,” I said. “So explain something to me. How did I end up with hunters after me? Professional ones. Men who knew exactly who they were looking for.”
Ronan’s gaze darkened. “I didn’t hire them.”
“That’s not what I asked,” I shot back. “I asked how.”
Silence stretched between us For a moment, I thought he might deflect again, might shut down the way he always did when things got too close to the truth. Instead, he exhaled slowly.
“I don’t know yet,” he admitted. “But I will find out.”
Kael’s head snapped up. “That’s not good enough.”
Ronan’s eyes flicked to him. “I’m aware. But it’s the truth.”
I held up a hand before they could spiral. “Okay. Fine. You’ll look into it. But that doesn’t erase the fact that it happened.” My voice wavered despite my efforts. “And it doesn’t explain why you suddenly get to decide what happens to me.”
Ronan leaned forward, forearms braced on his thighs. “Because your safety is compromised, Sienna. I can’t just walk away knowing someone put a price on your head.”
“Well who's fault is that again? ,” I snapped.
The words landed harder than I intended. His expression tightened, something raw flashing across his face before he masked it.
“I’m not going to apologize for that,” he said quietly. "I have more important things to do?"
“And what does that mean?” I asked. “You hovering? Locking me away somewhere I didn’t agree to?”
“No,” he said immediately. “It means protection.”
I laughed again, “You don’t get to decide that unilaterally.”
“I do if it keeps you alive.”
“That’s not how this works,” I said, standing now, unable to sit still anymore. “You don’t get to sweep in, make decisions, and expect me to just accept them because you think you know best.”
He stood too, the room suddenly feeling far too small. “This isn’t about control.”
“Everything with you is about control,” I fired back.
Kael rose between us before the tension could snap, placing himself slightly in front of me without fully blocking my view. His voice was calm, but there was steel underneath it.
“If you insist on extra protection,” he said to Ronan, “then it has to be me.”
"I'd rather chew on gravel than deal with you. You can send Lucien" I snapped
“Not Lucien,” Kael said flatly.
And I turned to him question in my eyes and he just shook his head.
"He's not trustworthy" he answered
Ronan scoffed. “You don’t get to dictate who I trust.”
“I do when it involves her,” Kael shot back. “Lucien doesn’t step anywhere near Sienna.”
He really seemed to be against the idea of Lucien for some reason. He looked really pissed that he was even mentioned.
Maybe he was insecure about the guy. I mean I already am hooking up with one of the guys. I'm sure he doesn't want me to do that with another on
He didn't have to worry but I guess I could give him this and support hm.
Ronan looked at me then, really looked, something searching in his expression. “Do you agree with this ”
“Kael had his reasons and I trust Kael so it'll just be Kael then like always. He's been doing a good job anyway ,” I said simply. “
His jaw clenched. “Kael isn’t enough"
Kael didn’t even flinch. “I am.”
"If you won't let Lucien come then I'll just do it myself. I'm sure you have no issue with it being me?" he asked Kael and kael just shrugged surprisingly.
I mean him not minding if it was Ronan was a surprise I wasn't expecting.
I dragged a hand through my hair, frustration bubbling over. “This isn’t just about me,” I said. “What if they go after Danny? Or the kids? What if hurting them is easier than getting to me?”
That did it.
Ronan’s expression shifted, something dangerous and protective rolling through him. “They won’t.”
“You don’t know that,” I said. “You just said you don’t even know who hired them.”
“I know this,” he said firmly. “No one touches them. I’ll make sure of it.”
“And how am I supposed to trust that?” I asked.
He didn’t answer immediately. When he did, his voice was lower, steadier. “Because I’m telling you I will protect them as if they were mine.”
The room went quiet.
Kael glanced at me, concern etched into his face, but he didn’t interrupt. For once, neither of them did.
“I don’t want a war between the two of you,” I said finally. “I don’t want threats and half-truths and decisions made behind my back.”
Ronan nodded slowly. “Then we talk. Properly.”
Kael inclined his head. “Agreed.”
I looked between them, heart pounding. “If there’s protection, you work together. If there’s information, I get it too. No secrets.”
Ronan hesitated, then nodded. “I understand”
“And you find out who did this,” I added. “Because until you do, I am not safe and since you want to keep me safe you have to find that out.”
His eyes met mine, unwavering. “I will.”
This looked good.
Promising
