Chapter 99 Secretly Stirring Up Trouble

At the hospital, Daphne's phone chimed.

She picked it up and glanced at the screen. The moment she saw the photo, her eyes welled up with tears, and the phone slipped from her hand, hitting the floor.

Moira noticed and immediately asked with concern, "Daphne, what's wrong? Why are your eyes red?"

Daphne quickly composed herself, bent down, and picked up the phone. "It's nothing."

Moira wasn't convinced, her eyes filled with worry. "Really?"

Daphne hugged Moira's arm, pouting playfully. "Moira, when have I ever lied to you? Really, it's nothing."

Moira gently patted Daphne's back. "As long as you're okay. But if something's bothering you, you have to tell me, okay? I might not be able to help much, but at least you have me to listen. It always feels better to talk about it."

Daphne lowered her head slightly, her long lashes casting shadows that hid her tears well.

She tried to sound normal. "I know, Moira. Don't worry."

Maybe this was for the best.

"By the way, Moira, once your surgery is successful, how about we leave this city? We could start fresh somewhere else." Daphne looked at Moira with hopeful eyes.

Moira didn't know why Daphne suddenly had this plan, but since she wanted it, Moira naturally agreed.

She smiled, "Sure, once my surgery is done, we'll go explore another city."

Suddenly, Daphne remembered the nursing home development project. Maybe she could talk to the residents' families.

"Moira, I have some things to take care of. I'll come back to see you another day. Please take good care of yourself."

Moira looked at Daphne with a hint of reluctance, gently patting her hand. "You should take care of yourself too. Make sure you eat on time, okay? You've lost so much weight. It breaks my heart to see you like this."

"I know, Moira. I'll be fine." Daphne picked up her bag from the bedside table and headed out of the room.

After leaving the hospital, she immediately went to find the families of the nursing home residents.

"A development project for the nursing home? What are the benefits? Can you explain?" a man asked.

"Of course."

Daphne explained the benefits of the development project.

By the time she finished, everyone was intrigued.

Daphne sat quietly, waiting for their response.

Just when she thought she might fail, someone suddenly slapped the table. "I'm in."

With that, the rest quickly followed suit.

"Don't worry, I'll talk to my mom about it."

"Yes, definitely."

Daphne looked at them gratefully, stood up, and bowed deeply.

After convincing the families, the residents agreed to the development project. Daphne breathed a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, in the top-floor office of the Anderson Group.

"Ms. Anderson, there's an update on the nursing home project," the man standing behind Gloria reported.

Gloria put down her pen and looked up at her assistant. "What's the update? Did they agree to the development?"

To her surprise, the residents had indeed agreed.

Gloria slammed the table in anger. "That witch actually pulled it off! I can't believe she managed to get the project approved!"

The assistant looked at Gloria and asked, "Ms. Anderson, what should we do next?"

Gloria bit her lip and paced the office. "We can't let her succeed!"

The whole point of putting Daphne in charge of the nursing home project was to set her up for failure and get her out of the Anderson Group. But now...

Got it!

Gloria motioned for her assistant to come closer. The assistant leaned in.

"Here's what you need to do..." After explaining her plan, Gloria looked at her assistant. "Got it?"

She added, "Oh, one more thing. When are they signing the contract?"

The assistant thought for a moment. "I believe it's tomorrow morning."

Gloria checked the time. "Time is of the essence. Contact the residents' families immediately and talk to them."

"Yes, Ms. Anderson. I'll get on it right away." The assistant hurried out of the office.

"Hmph! That witch! If she thinks she can stay at the Anderson Group, she's got another thing coming!" Gloria fumed.

The next morning, Daphne arrived at the office early to print the contracts.

After printing, she carefully reviewed them. Once the families signed, the project would be finalized.

She checked the time on her phone. It was half past eight

The contract signing was at ten, so she had an hour and a half.

Daphne grabbed her car keys and decided to head to the nursing home to wait for them.

At ten o'clock, the families began to arrive at the nursing home.

Once everyone was there, Daphne handed out the contracts.

She expected them to sign, but to her surprise, no one moved. Daphne was puzzled. "Why aren't you signing?"

The man sitting at the front stood up and looked at Daphne apologetically. "Ms. Sullivan, we thought about it last night and decided we need to renegotiate."

"Yeah, Ms. Sullivan, we feel the same way."

More and more people wanted to renegotiate.

Everything had been fine yesterday, why the sudden change?

"Okay, let's talk." Daphne had to agree.

They all sat down. Daphne hoped for a calm discussion, but things took an unexpected turn.

"Our biggest issue is the money. If you're willing to increase the amount to this," the middle-aged man gestured a number, "we'll agree."

Daphne's face fell. The amount was exponentially higher than what they had discussed. "That's impossible! Yesterday we..."

"Ms. Sullivan, yesterday was yesterday. Today is today. If you don't meet our demands, we won't agree to the development." the man insisted.

Daphne pressed her lips and looked up at the people in front of her. From their faces, she could see only one thing—greed.

"I'm just an employee. I need to discuss this with my superiors," Daphne said honestly.

"Fine, we'll wait for your decision."

"Yes!"

One by one, they left, and soon Daphne was the only one left.
