Fae say what?

Fae say what?
Alex didn't understand any of it, how could she be his child. Crystal had told him many times they could never have children. So he didn't think twice about being safe. She had been gone for years now and Alex didn't see her at all. Even during the battle, he only saw her for a few moments. He looked at Dorcas and wondered what Crystal was playing at. Was this all a game to keep Dorcas safe? She would know that Alex would protect the child with his life. It had always been that way when he had his son. Even lost in his grief, he protected his son.

"Mom sent a letter with me." Dorcas told me with a bright smile.

"Oh did she?" Alex asked shocked when Dorcas pulled a letter out of thin air.

Well she inherited her mother's magic it would seem. She handed it to Alex then wiggled to be put down. Alex put her back on her feet, watching as she darted away to play with a few of the other kids. Alex looked at Hem then to the letter in his hand. Crystal really should have done this in person. Alex understood that she was a queen and did what she wanted, but this was more important than that. Alex didn't see any of his features on the child, but he could see Crystal. It seemed strange to be have a child this young around again. He didn't have anything for a child. Had it really been five years since Crystal left? Alex opened the letter and could smell Crystal's perfume.

Dearest Alex,

I know this will be a shock to you. When I came home to be changed back I never thought about a child. I missed you so much when I came here. It wasn't the same without you, but I knew that you couldn't be here. The dark job that needed to be filled wasn't one you could or would do. The only reason I had suggested it was fear. I feared that I would never see you again. I had nothing to remind me of you, or so I thought.

Alex I shall always love you in my own way. I know that over the years I have never truly showed you that. I wish now that I had showed you my love. Then maybe you would have come with me. That thought however chills me to my bones because you have saved so many people over the years. Never wanting to harm someone unless you had to. I think you only turned a handful of people because you didn't want to see them harmed. It is part of the reason that I loved you. You happened to be the Yin to my Yang.

This job takes so much of my time, that I didn't notice that I was sick. For almost two months, I couldn't eat or drink because I would just throw it up. It is then that I figured out that I was with child. I hadn't been with anyone on this side of the barrier. A healer confirmed that I was carrying a child, but the child wasn't like any they had seen before. We have no idea how this happened. In all the lore there has never been a child born from a vampire with any other creature. One healer said that maybe it was because when they changed me it also changed the seed. I don't know for sure. You see, the child is half fae and half Vampire. It is a strange mix and we had no idea what would happen when it was born. A new fear roared to life inside my heart because I knew what my court would do to her. They would kill her because she was different than they are. I don't want that to happen. I am so sorry that I didn't get word to you sooner, but fear kept me doing so. I named her Dorcas to show you that she is yours. I have a feeling you will hate me for doing so, but she is so bright and lovely, just like your Dorcas was.

Fair warning about little Dorcas though, she is fae she also has a bloodlust that you will be able to help her with. Watch her because she is quick to anger at times. Maybe being with you, she will learn to temper herself a little more. She is also as smart as you, catching on to things before you would really want her to. I hope that you can care for her for both of us. Maybe one day she can come back to see me and tell me all about her life with you.

I wish we had been able to have the happy ending we both dreamed of. It wasn't to be and I have heard that you are married again, I hope she treated you will as I hope my husband will do with me. Seems strange that we both found love in other people. Maybe that was the fate's plan all along. Alex, I will always love you no matter what is going on in my life. I hope that you can forgive me on keeping this a secret for so long. I had to be sure that she would be able to live on that side of the barrier. It all seems a little daft now that I think it through. I think that I just didn't want her to leave just yet. Hearing her laugh and enjoy almost everything in her life here made my life so much better. The thing is that she did end up killing someone here and the council wanted her dead or gone. It wasn't her fault however, the man was doing...Well I will leave that out of the letter. She protected herself, and the council didn't like it. I fought with them on this and they gave in, but I feared it would happen again.

Alex, please take care of her. One day she might find her way back here, and if she does...well that will mean she is the new queen. I have no problem stepping down for her. She would be the equal parts dark and light that the fae need in a queen. If you have time from time to time please send me an update on her.

Love Always,
Crystal

Alex wasn't sure how to take the letter, or the reason behind Dorcas. He didn't hate her for the name, though it was an old name. If she went to a human school, she would be bullied for it. That thought stopped him in his tracks. He couldn't send her to a human school. It would be during the sunlight hours and he wasn't sure if she could handle the sunlight.

"I take it the letter didn't give you any answers." Hem spoke from beside me.

"Not really, she thinks that when they turned her back it woke up the seed." Alex laughed. "That sounds insane."

"She would be one of a kind that is for sure." Hem smiled over at Alex.
