123. Reminiscing
Leia helped me up, I felt so weak. I was disgusting and hated that I was learning so much from Malachar. I turned to the side when I heard a loud CAW. It was Wrath my bird. He had come, was it because I was in distress? I was leaning heavily on Leia. We got to the hall and Aiden came running and took me from Leia to help carry my weight. “She needs blood Aiden, she is depleted.” Leia told him.
The room was spinning at this point. “Will you fuck off” I heard Aiden say, I could hear Wrath Cawing all over the place. I felt something soft under me. Aiden kneeled down as I felt my body slump over. “Hold on Beatrix” He said and I just looked at him. He had really matured through the years. He looked so different for the young boy I had known growing up. I heard more people coming in. “Drink Beatrix” Leia said. I didn’t move.
Why would I, I was horrible and was doing ritual blood magic with the devil himself. “Oh, for fucks sake.” Then I smelt blood, and my body ignited and though I was weak, I sloppily threw myself at the neck of someone. My fangs dug into their skin, and I loved the sweet taste. “Go to the next vein bound Beatrix.” Aiden was saying but I was relishing the blood. I felt my body being pulled back and then a new scent of blood hit me, it was different from the one I was drinking and again I lunged.
I was forcibly pulled back again and then fed. My body seemed to be repowering, and control came back quickly by the third time I was jerked back. I drank from five people but the last two where more controlled and no one had to pull me away. I finished and wiped my face, not knowing if I was covered in blood from drinking aggressively. “Thanks Leia, and sorry.” I said and turned to Aiden. “Thanks.” He nodded.
Leia looked concerned. “Bad day with Malachar?” I replied, “Very bad, we are doing rituals, I will have to go for seven days straight no weekend free this week.” Aiden spoke “That psycho is having you do rituals now?” I nodded. “The last one, sent.” Leia, I saw grabbed his shoulder and shook her head. Aiden luckily dropped it. “Do you want to talk about it?” Leia asked me, I could feel her concern in her voice. Maybe I should?
I plopped down on the couch and ran my hands over my face. “We are doing protective blood wards, which is probably the best thing to learn but fucking hell, it is gross. You have no fucking idea. And I sure as fuck am not telling you what that entails.” I let out a sigh. Aiden took a seat across from me and Leia sat next to me. “Well, it isn’t like we want to know. I am guessing it is bad since your husband refused to disclose what the last one consisted of, to bring back the land.”
Leia shot him a look saying “Shut up” I gave a half snort. “Any news on Ava?” I asked and Aiden shook his head. “Baron is working on it though, so maybe we will learn something soon. I was hopeful for him. “So, if you have to spend the next seven days with Malachar are you not going to Paris to give the Dhamir to the woman who asked for one?” Leia asked. I shrugged. “I don’t know, I will have to speak to Teddy when he gets home.”
I had not told them about what I had found with my father's stuff. It had been a gold mind of information, and it had paid off doing nothing but analyzing my father's journals. Turns out he knew how to make the dark relics and destroy them. It was buried in his words and complicated, but I had found it. I had told no one but Teddy.
He had theories on how many Malachar had made but not a solid number and he had only destroyed two of them as the process was rather a lot to actually neutralize someone's raw power. I was not looking forward to that. Nor was I looking forward to getting them. He had started with the ones he believed where in South America. That was where he had met my mother.
There was a large silence between the three of us. “So, on a scale from one to ten how bad was it today” Aiden asked. It was a weird question. When Leia shot him a look again, he shrugged saying “What? She is my friend we always rate shit that is uncomfortable or at least we used to.” It made me smile; we used to do that when we were kids. It was weird sometimes I felt so distance from my oldest friend but then he would do something like this, and it would bring me back to how we were when we were kids in school. “seven” I said.
He grinned, no doubt feeling the same nostalgia. “So, it wasn’t as bad as the day you caught part of your hair on fire.” I laughed remembering that day. We were so young when that happened. Leia looked between us then asked. “You caught your hair on fire?” I nodded and Aiden started to laugh thinking about that day.
“Oh, Beatrix so did, it was when she could first call for lightning and she caught a tree on fire, but instead of calling for rain to put it out like she should have. She rushed over worried about burring down Dark Wood.” I was biting my lip trying not to smile but snapped at him in a high voice “You were not supposed to tell anyone.” He laughed. “Everyone could tell Beatrix, you had a huge black section in your hair.” I let out a laugh.
“That isn’t even the funniest Beatrix story I have.” Aiden admitted. “Don’t” I said fighting my smile. “Should I not tell Leia how you decided it would be fun to set a winter storm loose in the woods so we could have a snowball fight in the middle of summer.” Leia was smiling now too. Aiden laughed and it was nice. It felt like old times, the stress melted away as we all three began to reminiscent. Aiden and I told stories about one another to Leia. She added some of Teddy and Baron as well.
