Valin entered the King’s court,
“My King, we have located the bastards that torched Traykor!”
This got his immediate attention.
“Gather my warriors,” he commanded.
Valin rushed out to sound the call.
I heard the commotion in the courts below my balcony. I ran out to see. I watched all his warriors gather, waiting for the signal. When it was given, I watched them one by one shift into their beast, and then I saw my King, his face turned to me, he smiled just before shifting into the largest beast I had ever seen. I watched him as he and his warriors lifted off the ground. His powerful wings pounded the air as he soared higher and higher, fading into the distant night skies.
I heard Lydia come in with my midnight drink.
“Where are they going?” I asked. She smiled at my words; they contained no fear, only concern for my King.
“He is going to slaughter those who torched your village,” she watched me stare out into the distance.
“You know what he is, yet all you care about is his safety,” she said, waiting for me to turn around, but instead, I walked further out onto my balcony.
“He is beautiful,” I whispered.
She laughed, handing me the drink that he instructed her to fix for me once daily.
“Don’t tell him that, his head is big enough already.” We both laughed as she wrapped her arms around me. The night air was getting colder now. I sipped my drink; it was the same drink my father used to make for me, but how did King Rryan know that?
I treasured my time with Lydia. She wasn’t much older than I was, but she told me she had been the King's personal maid and assistant for a very long time. She was the only friend I had, but she was much more than a friend.
“I miss him already,” I sighed, making my way back inside, where it was warm.

Her vision showed his beast ripping off the man's head, and the crunching of his skull between his beast's jaws. The sound could be heard for miles around. Then her eyes cleared.
“Did you just see it?” I asked, watching her carefully.
“I did, we are both an important part of the King's world now. Bound to him by ties of blood and power. I am a seer, just like your mother was.”
I had known that my mother ‘knew things’ and that others had sought her out for her abilities.
