Clara stared at the dark-eyed man in fear. The Creator of Curses. The one who had started everything.
"Welcome to my realm," he said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "I've waited a long time to meet you, Clara."
Lucien stepped in front of her. "Stay away from her."
The Creator laughed. "Still protective after all these years? How touching." He turned to Isolde. "You've done well bringing them here."
"You planned this?" Clara asked Isolde, feeling deceived again.
"I tried to warn you about Erynn," Isolde said sadly. "But I couldn't tell you everything. The Void has ears."
Dominic looked around nervously. "We need to leave. Now."
"There is no leaving the Void," the Creator said. "Unless I allow it."
Clara felt a strange tingle in her body. Looking up, she saw a red moon rising in the misty nothing above them.
"The Blood Moon," Dominic whispered. "It's starting."
"What's starting?" Clara asked, fear rising in her chest.
Lucien gripped her hand tightly. "The alignment. When all three worlds can be changed forever."
The red light from the moon bathed them all. Clara gasped as pain shot through her. Her skin felt like it was on fire. Silver light began to shine from her eyes and fingers.
"What's happening to me?" she cried.
"Your power is waking up," Isolde stated. "All of it. From every life you've ever lived."
Clara fell to her knees. The power was too much. It felt like she was being torn apart from the inside.
Lucien knelt beside her. "Focus on my voice. I'm right here."
Through her pain, Clara noticed something strange. The Creator wasn't happy anymore. He looked worried.
"This isn't right," he mumbled. "Her power should be easier to control."
The silver light around Clara grew stronger. Memories filled her mind – not just one lifetime, but dozens. Hundreds. Every time she had lived and died and lived again.
"Too much," she gasped. "I can't hold it."
"You must," Lucien said strongly. He wrapped his arms around her. "I've got you. Focus on us. On now."
His touch helped. The rushing memories slowed. Clara took a deep breath.
"The Blood Moon only lasts one night," Dominic said. "If we can keep her safe until morning..."
"She won't last that long," the Creator snapped. "Her human body can't handle this much power."
"Then help her!" Lucien ordered.
The Creator studied Clara with cold eyes. "I could. But why would I? Her death would reset everything. I could try again with the next version of her."
Lucien's face clouded with rage. "There won't be a next version. This ends today."
Suddenly, a crack appeared in the misty nothingness. Through it stepped Erynn, her true form even more frightening in the red moonlight.
"Found you," she hissed.
Clara tried to stand, but her legs wouldn't work. The power was still growing inside her, making it hard to think or move.
"Perfect timing," the Creator said to Erynn. "I was just deciding what to do with our guests."
Erynn looked at him with hate. "They're mine. I've waited too long for this."
"Your plan failed," the Creator told her. "Clara saw through your lies."
"I have a new plan," Erynn growled. She raised her clawed hands. Dark energy whirled around her fingers.
Clara felt Lucien's arms tighten around her. "Don't let go," she whispered to him.
"Never," he promised.
As Erynn prepared to attack, Clara felt something shift inside her. The pain was still there, but now there was something else too. Understanding.
"Wait," she said, her voice stronger now. "I know what's happening."
Everyone turned to look at her.
"The Blood Moon isn't just waking my power," Clara said slowly. "It's showing me the truth. About all of you."
She looked at each face around her. "You're all connected. All part of the same story."
The Creator stepped back. "Be quiet."
"No," Clara said, finding strength in the news. "I understand now. You're afraid of me. Of what I might become."
With Lucien's help, she stood up. Silver light flowed from her in waves now, but it didn't hurt anymore. It felt right.
"The Creator isn't just the maker of curses," Clara declared. "He's the one who split the three worlds apart in the first place. And he's been keeping them separate by making sure I die in every life before I can fix things."
Isolde's golden eyes widened. "Is this true?"
The Creator's face twisted with anger. "You understand nothing!"
"I understand everything now," Clara said. The silver light around her grew brighter, pushing back the red glow of the Blood Moon.
Erynn moved closer to Clara, her black eyes curious. "You see it too, don't you? What we could be?"
Clara nodded. "There's a way to save all three worlds without destroying any of them. We need balance, not domination."
"Impossible," the Creator spat.
"No," Lucien said, standing tall beside Clara. "Not impossible. Just not what you wanted."
Clara felt her power settle as Lucien held her close. His strength flowed into her, helping her control the wild energy of the Blood Moon.
"We need to stay connected until morning," she told him. "If we break apart, I might lose control."
Erynn looked between them and the Creator. Then she made a shocking choice.
"I'll help you," she said to Clara. "Not because I trust you, but because I want him to fail."
The Creator laughed coldly. "Four against one? Do you really think that matters here, in my realm?"
He raised his hands, and the Void began to shake. Dark shapes emerged from the mist – shadows of creatures Clara had never seen before.
"Stay close to me," Lucien whispered in her ear. "All night if we have to."
Clara nodded, drawing strength from his nearness. As the red light of the Blood Moon bathed them, she felt their hearts beating as one.
The shadows crept closer. Isolde and Dominic moved to stand with Clara and Lucien, making a circle. Erynn paused, then joined them.
"Until morning," Clara said.
The Creator's eyes blazed with rage. "There will be no morning for you."
He sent the shadows rushing toward them. As the attack came, Clara closed her eyes and channeled her wild power through her bond with Lucien. Silver light burst outward.
When she opened her eyes again, everything had changed. The five of them stood in a place that shouldn't exist – a perfect blend of all three worlds.
And before them stood a door that hadn't been there before, marked with a sign Clara recognized from her locket.
"What is that?" Dominic asked in awe.
Clara looked at Lucien, whose face showed the same shock she felt.
"It's the way out," she whispered. "And the way forward."
As she reached for the door, the ground beneath them began to fall away.
"Clara!" Lucien shouted, grabbing for her hand as they started to drop into nothingness.
Their fingers touched, missed, then caught again as the Blood Moon shone down on them one last time.
