Chapter 86 Chapter Eighty-six
Chapter 86 Chapter Eighty-six
Kieran stretched a little, more than satiated. He,Tobais and Morgan lay tangled in the sheets together. They had just finished their last round of Sex and Morgan's mind was as clear as spring water. Time to probe.
“So, Morgan,” he began putting a little bit of persuasion in his voice. It was like compulsion but weaker. “Where do you come from? What was a beautiful woman like you doing in a bar all alone.”
She giggled “I come from Diamond Ridge. Don't you?”
Right. Stupid question. “I do. I just…haven't seen your type around here.”
“Oh Kevin. Is there really a need to flirt with me anymore? You've gotten what you wanted haven't you?”
“Yes but I want more. I want to know you.” He moved around gingerly in the peripheral recesses of her mind trying to find a way in without her realizing. Her walls were still relatively up but it wasn't as if she was actively maintaining them. It was like her mental walls were but there by someone else. Amara, maybe.
Morgan yawned. “Maybe another time. I'm sleepy.”
Kieran shared a look with Tobias who was on her other side.
Help me, he said into his mind.
“I like your necklace,” Tobias blurted. “I’ve always wanted to see the Talisman of Lumina.”
Morgan's head whipped to him. “How did you know that?”
Oh no.
Good one, Tobias.
Tobias' eyes widened a fraction, realizing what he had done. Of course this was the way he would give them away.
“I…uh…”
“The talisman of Lumina is a relic from the old world. Only a few know of its existence and even fewer can recognize it. How would a mere human know what it is?”
“Why do you have it?” Kieran asked, trying to stall.“Aren’t you human?”
She sat up slowly. Kieran mirrored her movements.
“No. I'm not. And I think you already know that. Because you're not human either.”
She looked him right in the eye and Kieran let his glamour fall off. “Okay, you got me. We can either do this the easy way or the hard way. Just tell me what I need to know.”
In a flash, a wand appeared in her hand and she pointed it in his direction, a blast of heat flew from it. He dodged, the wave narrowly missing his face.
“Watch it.”
Tobias tried to collect the wand from her but she elbowed him in the face and scrambled, naked, out of the bed. She held the wand with both hands in front of her. Like that that little stick was going to stop him.
“Kneel,” he said, his voice heavy with compulsion.
Morgan remained standing. “That little trick isn't going to work on me, you corpse.”
The next time a wave of power came from her wand, it hit him square in the chest. Pain erupted in his chest and spread throughout his entire body. He staggered back.
“Kieran!” Said Tobias.
“I rather liked you Trent, if that is even your real name. It's a shame I'll have to kill you.”
Whatever Morgan did to Kieran, it was rendering him weak. He could hardly think straight talk less of trying to compel her. He watched as Tobais lunged at Morgan, dodging her attacks and going straight for her neck.
Kieran watched, brows raised, as Tobias slapped the wand away from her hand and pinned her to the wall. He forced himself to stand against the effects of whatever Morgan did to him.
Morgan's eyes turned golden and suddenly Tobias was thrown back towards the other side of the room.
“I'm very certain Amara would want vampire puppets. It will add a nice touch to the castle don't you think?” Morgan said. She walked towards Kieran, a hand on his chin. He still couldn't move weakened by the effect of her power.
The door to their room burst open then, the force nearly removing it from it's hinges. Morgan was thrown to the other side of the room, her back hitting the wall with a sickening crack.
“You, fool.”said Alaric. He looked down at Kieran with utter disappointment but Kieran couldn't be bothered right now. He was just happy for the save. Kallum helped Tobias up from where Morgan had thrown him.
“What happened? I told you to keep casualties to a minimum.”
“Oh fuck you. You think we can get through this without a fight?”
“It certainly seemed like you were.” Kallum said taking a sniff of the room and glancing at Morgan's naked body.
“Well you can clearly see it didn't work,” he retorted.
Tobias walked up to Kieran, worry in his gaze. “You okay?”
“Didn't know you cared about me.” Kieran said with a lazy smile.
The look in Tobias' eyes faded immediately. “I don't. You're just indispensable right now.”
Alaric snorted from where he was examining Morgan.
“Is she alive?” Tobias asked.
“Her back is broken. I've already started healing her but the process will be slow.” He hoisted her up. “Let's get out of here.”
Kieran quickly fixed himself up, mentally checking for injuries. Though the effects of Morgan's magic were gone, he still felt queasy. Not being able to move for some seconds was…new. Kallum lingered at the door, waiting.
“What?”he asked, a little irritated.
“Wren’s gone. She found her mate and left with him.”
Kieran frowned, confused.“Why are you telling me this?”
“For fucks sake you know she was my source.”
“I knew she was one of your sources. Don't tell me you became too dependent.”
“I did.” Kallum said, defensively, folding his arms. “You're one to talk. Aren't you dependent on Tobias?”
Kieran scoffed. “Tobias didn't let me drunk from him until recently. I can feed from anyone. He's just my favourite. You made a stupid mistake.”
Kallum huffed. “I know. I've been going crazy these past few days. I'm only calm now because I fed from her recently but she told me never to come back. What happens when I'm hungry again? What do I do, Kieran?”
Kieran's brows raised. “You're really asking me?”
“Yes. Alaric told me not to bother him.”
“Understandably so,”said Kieran. “I think you should eliminate the competition.”
“She's going to hate me.”
“So? You're after her blood, not her heart. Chain her to your bed if she resists.”
Kallum said nothing. Oh.
“Unless you are after her heart. Oh my goodness, Kallum.” Kieran said with a shake of his head.
“I…I don't know, okay? I just don't want her to hate me.”
“I could…do it for you. I'll make it look like an accident.”
Kallum looked like he wanted to argue but Kieran could see him actively thinking about it.
“ Don't tell me you're developing a conscience now.”
“Killing Drex will create a lot of problems. Alaric will know it was us.”
“Oh, fuck Alaric. Who cares what he thinks?”
“I do. Let's not add to his problems.”
Kieran pursed his lips. “Whatever,Kallum. I tried. I honestly thought between the two of us, I'd be the one to go rabid first.”
Kallum groaned. “I need another source. One that's even stronger than Wren's blood.”
“Hmm. You were addicted to her blood mostly because she was part werewolf. That supernatural mix most likely gave that feeling. Maybe this time we need a full werewolf or a vampire.”
“Vampire, please. Werewolves hate us. Plus I don't want to be bitten by one.”
“Yeah, nasty experience. Okay then. Let's go vampire hunting.”
