Chapter 77 Chapter Seventy-seven

Chapter 77 Chapter Seventy-seven
Wren's heart beat in anticipation as they approached the mansion that housed the Alpha of Sogal’s pack. Her source had told her that was where Arya and the rest of the wolves of Stone Haven had moved to. Her mind went to all the different ways this could turn out and none seemed promising. She hoped Alaric was right about this.

Two male werewolves manned the gate.
“Stay back, I'll handle this.” She said to the others. She mustered up all her courage and approached the guards. “We're here to see Alpha Caleb. Is he around?”

“Who are you?” One of the guards sneered.

“We’re allies, here to help.”

The guard sniffed her a little. “What's your pack?”

“Diamond Ridge,” she said. Werewolf packs were named after the city they resided in. One pack for one city.

The two males shared a look. “What's your name?”

“Wren.”

One of them went inside, most likely to announce their presence. She gave her real name because she knew it won't get her in faster. Arya and Bradley wouldn't be able to resist their chance at Revenge.

The gates to the sprawling mansion were open to them minutes later. Alaric, Kallum, Azriel and Brooke followed closely behind her as she strode to the building. Alpha Caleb spared no expense on this place. It was almost on par with Kallum's.

The leaders of the Stone Haven pack and Sogal pack were already waiting for them when they entered the living room.

“Well well well,”Arya purred. “The wolf and her vampire friends came crawling back.”

Bradley moved with blinding speed, grabbing Alaric by the throat and slamming him against the wall so hard it cracked. Brooke screamed.

“You’ve got some nerve coming here. Most of my people are dead because of you. I'm going to destroy you.”

Alaric made no move to fight. He didn't even look fazed by the fact that Bradley was nearly crushing his windpipe.

“Not so fast, Bradley.” Alpha Caleb said, standing. “Don't you want to hear what our guests have to say first?”

“I'm not interested.” Bradley snarled.

“Well I am. Arya, tell your mate to back off.”

“Caleb, these vampires are the reason most of the wolves of Stone Haven are dead.” Arya said.

“I know that but they wouldn't come here if it wasn't dire. I'm curious.”

Bradley reluctantly let go of Alaric but he didn't step back.

“Talk,”he said.

“We're to help you get the moonstone back.”

Arya scoffed. “Is that so?”

“Yes. My mate was captured by Amara. I need to get her back. You want the moonstone. I want her. We both want Amara gone. I'll help you in any way that I can.”

“We don't need your help.”Bradley hissed.

“Yes you do actually.” Caleb chipped in. “Your pack’s been reduced to more than half and there's only so much I can do to help you. I'm not about to risk the lives of my pack members for some fool's errand. You'll need all the help you can get.”

“It's not a fool's errand, Caleb. Have you no respect for the mother?”

Caleb snorted. “I'd tell you to give this up but I know you won't listen. How long will you keep praying to a deity that won't answer.” He shook his head. “No one listens to me.”

Arya rolled her eyes and turned her gaze back to Alaric. She assessed him coldly.

“I want nothing more than your mate to die. It would give me utmost satisfaction after what you did to my people. I still can't trust you. How do we know you're not lying and don't have an alternative trick up your sleeve.”

“I just told you, my mate was…”

“Yes yes, your mate was captured. But where's your proof?”

Wren could see that Alaric was already getting fed up with this. He brought out the Amulet from his pocket and thrust out his hand jerkily. “Here. We're willing to give you this. Is that proof enough for you?”

Arya's eyes slid to Wren. She looked away.

Bradley snatched the Amulet from Alaric's hand. “Don't soil our sacred Artifact with your filthy hands.”

“We don't have time for this,” Kallum said. “Do you believe us or not?”

“For all your sakes, I hope this is not some sick game.” Arya muttered.

“Now that we've gotten that out of the way, Vampires please have a seat. Let's talk.”

Alaric looked at Wren. She nodded and they all went to sit down.

Alpha Caleb stood in the middle, his hands clasped together. He looked rather cheerful.

“There's a competition between the various werewolves packs of the world. Each one of them is on a ratrace to see who gets the moonstone first so they can be the moon goddess's most favoured pack. I'm not participating in this game so I'll be the host but don't worry I'm rooting for Stone Haven.”

“Wouldn't it be better for you all to work together? Amara is really strong.” Said Brooke.

“Logically speaking, yes. But this is a game and most games don't follow the rules of real world logic.”

“The competition has already started and this pack is sorely behind. The Amulet of protection gives us a good edge though.”

“I've already sent two of my Vampires to infiltrate Amara's base and find out the cause of her immortality so we can kill her. I don't know if you've heard but Amara rules Diamond Ridge now.”said Alaric.

“We've heard,” Alpha Caleb said. He was about to say something else when a loud noise came from outside. It was as if two large elephants were hitting their heads on the gate.

“Are you expecting anyone?” Arya asked.

“Not exactly.”

A guard rushed in. “Sir, it's Alpha Drex. He's demanding to see you. We've told him to leave but he's causing a scene outside.”

Alpha Caleb smiled. “Why would you tell him to leave? Let him in.”

“Caleb…”

“No no, Bradley, this is good. Drex has never been good at controlling his temper. And he's your biggest competitor. I just need to rile him up a little so he can do something that'll get him disqualified.”

“CALEB!!”

A voice boomed outside. The door to the living room swung open with force and Alpha Drex walked in. He was the biggest man Wren had ever seen. He didn't wear a shirt so his muscles were on full display. Tattoos covered every inch of his arm and torso and he had a scar running down his right eye. His hair was shaved low, in a buzz cut, giving him a ruggedly handsome appearance. Wren had a weird feeling in her chest. Her wolf, which was usually always sleeping, awoke at his presence, agitated.

He walked in, hands curled into fists. “What the fuck do you think you're doing by limiting the number of participants per pack? It's not our fault Stone Haven is too weak to compete. I need my pack in their numbers. That's how we're going to win.”

Alpha Caleb shook his head. “Sorry Drex but everything has to be fair.”

Alpha Drex growled, a low thing that Wren felt deep in her core. She felt her nipples peak. What the fuck was happening to her? He looked around. “Who are these?”

“Allies.”

Alpha Drex smirked. “Allies. You're plotting with vampires now? The situation must be really dire.”

“Fuck you, Drex.” Bradley said.

Alpha Drex looked like he was about to say something when his eyes met hers. Her breath caught in her throat. It felt like som
ething had snapped in place between them. His eyes widened a bit with realization. No no no no. This couldn't be.

“Mate.”
