Chapter 107 The Hardest Piece

Chapter 107 The Hardest Piece
Lira POV
"I'm sorry." I looked up at the fading lights. "I'm so sorry this happened to you. You deserved better, deserved a better life and peace."
"We know." Lyanna helped me stand. "And that acknowledgment—that simple recognition of our worth—breaks the curse more than any blood magic could."
"Is it done?" I asked hopefully. "Is the curse broken?"
"Not yet." My father said, "One piece remains, the hardest piece."
"What?" I asked, though dread filled me.
"You must forgive." My mother said gently. "Forgive the five alphas. Forgive the living descendants, forgive Darkfang for benefiting from genocide."
"No." I stepped back. "I can't. They don't deserve"
"Forgiveness isn't about deserving." Lyanna interrupted. "It's about releasing, the curse can't fully break until the wronged bloodline forgives the guilty."
"But that's letting them win!" I protested. "That's saying what they did was okay!"
"No." My father shook his head. "It's saying you won't let their sins control your life anymore, you won’t let their evil poison your future."
"I can't." I repeated. "Can't forgive what they did to you, to my family, to me."
"Then the curse continues." Lyanna said sadly. "Weaker, yes. But not broken. And eventually, it will consume the living again."
"That's not fair!" I shouted. "Why should I forgive them? Why should I let it go?"
"Because you're better than they were." My mother cupped my face. "Because you choose love over hate. Life over death and the future over the past."
"Your mother chose that too." My father added. "Choose to save you instead of seeking revenge, died so you could live and break this cycle."
"I'm not strong enough." I whispered.
"You are." All three spoke together. "You already proved it by coming here, by speaking our name, by caring about our pain."
"One more step." Lyanna encouraged me. "One more choice. Forgive them, Lira. Not for their sake but for yours."
I looked at the darkness where rage had been. Saw it waiting. Saw the curse ready to retreat or return, depending on my choice.
"I forgive them." The words came broken. "I forgive the five alphas for their crimes. I forgive Magnus Thorn, i forgive the conspiracy. I forgive Darkfang for benefiting from genocide."
Nothing happened. "Mean it." My mother said gently. "Really mean it."
"How?" I demanded. "How do I forgive the unforgivable?"
"By understanding they were broken too." She explained. "Twisted by their own pain, their own fear and their own darkness."
"That doesn't excuse it." I argued.
"No." She agreed. "But it explains it. And understanding leads to compassion, even for monsters."
I closed my eyes. Thought of Magnus, twisted by ambition. Of the five alphas, consumed by greed. Of Garrick, poisoned by fear. All of them were broken. All of them making evil choices from broken places.
"I forgive them." I said again, and this time I felt it. Deep in my soul. "Not because they deserve it but because I deserve peace. I forgive them, I release them. I choose to move forward."
The darkness shattered like glass. Light poured in, warm and healing. The curse screamed once, then dissolved completely.
"It's done." Lyanna smiled, already fading. "The curse is broken. The dead are free and so are you."
"Wait!" I reached for her. "How do I get back? How do I return to the living world?"
"The same way you came." My mother kissed my forehead. "Through love, through your bond. Follow it home."
"Thank you." I looked at my parents. "For protecting me, for loving me, for everything."
"Thank you for living." My father said, "For being everything we hoped you'd become."
They faded into light, joining the other spirits. I stood alone in brightness, feeling the bond with Kael pulse with urgency.
Come back. His voice echoed through our connection, please come back.
I'm trying. I sent it back, show me the way.
The bond flared, becoming a thread in the light. I grabbed it, letting it pull me forward. The spirit world dissolved. Physical sensation returned—cold air, hard ground, hands gripping mine.
I gasped, opening my eyes to find myself on the temple altar. Dawn light streaked the sky.
Kael leaned over me, eyes red from tears. "Lira, thank the Goddess."
"How long?" I croaked.
"Twelve hours." Aria appeared with water. "Exactly sunrise, the ritual is complete."
"The curse?" I asked.
"Broken." She smiled through tears. "Every possessed wolf woke up at dawn. Clear and healthy.."
"It's over." I let Kael help me sit. "It's really over."
"Not entirely." Marcus approached, surprisingly humble. "You broke the curse, but the question remains—what happens to Darkfang? To the stolen territory?"
I looked around at the assembled pack. All watching and waiting for judgment.
"The territory returns to Silvermoon." I said clearly. "As it always should have."
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
"But." I continued. "Silvermoon doesn't exist anymore. Just me. One Luna and bloodline."
"So what does that mean?" Thomas asked.
I stood, though my legs shook. "It means I claim this territory as Silvermoon's heir. And I choose to share it with Darkfang. As equals and partners."
"You're not exiling us?" Someone asked, shocked.
"I'm inviting you." I corrected. "To build something new. Not Darkfang or Silvermoon, but something better. Together."
"Under whose leadership?" Marcus pressed.
I looked at Kael as he looked back. Through the bond, I felt his answer. "Under ours." I said. "Equal alphas, equal leadership. Equal authority."
"That's unprecedented." Selene said. "Two alphas of equal rank"
"Then let us set the precedent." Kael took my hand. "The Moonblood Luna and the Darkfang Alpha. Leading together."
Silence. Then slowly, wolves began to kneel. First Aria, then Thomas, then Darion and the others until only Marcus stood.
"This is wrong." He said flatly. "Against all traditions, against pack law."
"Then challenge us." I met his eyes. "Right now, the winner takes all."
He stared for a long moment. Then, slowly, deliberately, he knelt.
"For now, I will follow." He said. "But traditions exist for reasons, Luna. You'll learn that."
"Maybe." I helped him stand. "Or maybe we'll create new reasons, better ones."
The sun crested the horizon fully as light washed over the temple, warm and golden. The curse was broken, the territory was claimed and somehow, impossibly, we'd survived.
"What happens now?" Kael asked quietly.
"Now?" I leaned against him. "Now we rebuild it together."
"Together." He echoed, pulling me close.
