Chapter One Hundred And Sixty Five

Chapter One Hundred And Sixty Five
Lucian’s Pov

Deluna’s voice echoed through the hall like a death knell. With her dark eyes burning, and her words laced with venom, she had suddenly declared war in the grand dining hall. “Kill them all, bring Naomi to me!” she roared, her command reverberating off the bloodstained walls. My heart thundered as I took in the chaos. The hall transformed into a nightmarish tableau: broken bodies strewn across the flagstones, heads severed, and crimson pools of blood pooling around fallen soldiers.

“Has she forgotten who she’s dealing with?” I spat internally, anger coiling inside. I was not merely a man. I was a rabid vampire warrior fueled by vengeance and duty. I could not let Deluna’s treachery stand.

I stepped forward, my voice cutting through the din. “Deluna, face me!” I demanded, halting her advance with my challenge. For a brief, electrifying moment, her eyes widened in astonishment, as if she had not expected me to stand so defiant. It was then that I realized how much our fates were entwined with that of Naomi, whose safety she intended to use as bait.

All around, our allies fought desperately. I could hear the metallic ring of clashing swords and the thud of heavy boots. Amid the carnage, I caught sight of Travis, my loyal, ever valiant friend, slicing through enemy ranks. I could see his sweat-matted hair and the fierce determination in his eyes as he branded his sword along a soldier’s neck, sending a spray of blood into the air. His every strike was poetry in violence, and yet even his skill could not stop the mounting casualties among our men.

Naomi fought alongside me, her eyes alight with the strange fire of magic as she flung spells with precision. The air around her shimmered with arcane energy. Yet, I struggled to keep her from overstepping, trying to shield her even as she hurled counter spells at our foes. Her brilliance was a beacon, but it risked drawing further wrath from our enemies.

“Naomi, keep focused!” I shouted, dodging a searing blast of energy that scorched the stone floor near my feet. The acrid smell of burning flesh mingled with the coppery tang of blood. I could taste the bitterness of our losses in the very air I breathed.

Across the hall, Travis moved to divert attention away from Naomi. “This is not your fight, Travis, stay clear!” came a stern command from Deluna, his voice echoing as he twisted his sword in a daring parry. But stubborn pride flared in him. “Then whose fight is it, Deluna?” he retorted, turning his blade toward her. With a swift dodge, she narrowly avoided his strike, her laughter cold and mocking.

“Really, Travis,” she sneered, “do you truly wish to rid me of your pitiful existence?”
“Good and evil cannot coexist, Deluna,” he replied, his tone rising as he advanced. His words were both a challenge and a plea, for justice, for balance.

The sound of metal hitting metal, screams, and the cries of dying men mixed together into a harsh noise. For a brief moment, I moved toward Naomi, trying to comfort her in the middle of the chaos. But that decision would prove to be a grave mistake.

As the battle raged, I caught a glimpse of a sudden, horrifying motion behind Travis, a glint of steel and a flash of red. A sword had been plunged into his chest from behind. My heart nearly stopped as I heard his shocked cry cut short by a gasp. I spun around, adrenaline surging, but the sight was too late: Travis sank to the blood-slicked floor, his eyes wide with disbelief and sorrow.

I have never heard Naomi scream so loudly. As the battle went on, I saw something awful behind Travis, a flash of metal and red. Someone had stabbed him in the back.

Noami rushed forward, her voice thick with anguish. “No, Travis, please don’t do this to us!” she cried, kneeling beside him as I cradled his head in trembling hands.

His voice, faint and raspy, managed a final, bittersweet comment. “He loves you…” Travis murmured, his eyes softening even as life slipped away. A small, sad smile crept across his face, as if in that last moment he found solace in some distant, eternal peace. I shouted his name until my voice was raw with grief, “Travis, my best friend, my brother, I cannot lose you!” Rage and sorrow churned within me, each beat of my heart a tribute to his sacrifice. I could not help but blame myself for leaving him to face that treacherous witch alone.

Deluna, ever the cold orchestrator of this horror, paused for a heartbeat as if savoring our pain, then turned on her heel and vanished into the tumult, leaving a trail of sorrow in her wake. My vision blurred with tears, and I clenched my fists until my knuckles were white. “Deluna,” I growled, my voice a promise of retribution, “I swear you will pay. I will have your head.”

I glanced around at the carnage: the dining hall was a grotesque masterpiece of blood and ruin. Bodies lay strewn like broken marionettes, the rich copper stains pooling under flickering light. The air was thick with the stench of iron and decay. In that gruesome moment, every life lost, especially that of Travis, seared into my soul like an unhealed wound.

Naomi was no longer calling my name. I turned toward her, panic gripping me as I saw her crouched beside Travis’s still form, her face contorted in grief and disbelief. Her tear-streaked cheeks shone in the dim light, and her sobs were raw, echoing through the hall like a mourning dirge. I could feel her pain as if it were my own; each cry of hers was a shard of broken hope.

“Naomi!” I called, my voice desperate, but she did not respond to my pleas. Instead, she clung to Travis as if trying to hold onto a memory, her body shaking uncontrollably. The weight of our loss was too heavy for words to lift.

I stepped forward, anger and grief mingling in a fierce cocktail of determination. “Deluna,” I shouted into the chaos, “I promise you this, I will avenge Travis. I will rebuild our future from these ashes!” My voice rang out, clear and defiant, even as every fiber of my being trembled with sorrow.

Naomi looked up at me through blurred eyes, her voice a broken whisper: “Lucian… why did this have to happen?” I couldn’t answer her question. I just hugged her, and we both cried for the friend we lost. The red floor of the hall reminded us that our fight wasn’t over, it had only just started.

Later, as the battle quieted with only the cries of our wounded comrades, I was left alone with Naomi. Travis’s last words, “He loves you,” kept echoing in my mind. For days, mourning felt endless, each day a reminder of his loss, each night a dark emptiness that took away our hope.

In the quiet aftermath, I gathered what was left of our forces. “We must honor Travis,” I said, my voice heavy with resolve as I addressed our battered band of survivors. “His sacrifice will not be forgotten. We fight on—for him, for our future, and for the memory of every soul lost tonight.” My words carried the weight of grief and the promise of vengeance.

Naomi, holding Travis’s lifeless hand, looked up at me with tears in her eyes. “Lucian, I’m so sorry… I never wanted any of this.” Her voice shook with guilt and sadness. I could only nod, unable to find the right words to ease her pain.

As we slowly cleared the hall and retreated to our temporary stronghold, the bitterness of loss was inescapable. In whispered conversations and tearful embraces, our allies wept for Travis for days. Emma’s quiet sobs and Naomi’s soft crying echoed through the hall. I couldn’t stop thinking about Travis’s smiling face as he said his final goodbye.

That night, standing alone on a balcony overlooking the ruined dining hall, the cold air cutting through me, I made a promise again: Deluna’s reign of darkness would end. “Travis,” I whispered into the wind, “I will have your head before dawn. I promise.” The stars above seemed to weep with me, and every breath was laced with the anguish of our loss.

At that moment, I resolved to lead our remaining forces into the final assault on Deluna’s lair. A final, bloody reckoning to end her tyranny. Our love, our sorrow, and our rage would forge a path to justice. Even as I felt the weight of grief crushing me, the memory of Travis’s sacrifice became my rallying cry, a reminder that good and evil could no longer coexist without a price.

As the dawn approached and the embers of the battle smoldered, I prepared myself for the next confrontation. The thought of Deluna’s cold, calculating eyes haunted my every step, and I knew that the coming fight would be as personal as it was brutal. With Naomi by my side, I would not rest until justice was served and the darkness that claimed so many lives was banished forever.

“Travis, your sacrifice will be the spark that lights our way,” I vowed quietly into the night. “We will rebuild, and we will fight on, until the shadows are no more.”

And as the new day broke, heavy with the promise of retribution, I clutched my grief and my determination like twin weapons. Our hearts were broken, but together, we would rise from the crimson ruin and carry on fighting not just for vengeance, but for the future that Travis had given his life to protect.
