Chapter 190 The Moon wolf secret
Chapter 190
RAVENNA
I shifted closer to him, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might break through my ribs. "What do you mean by that?"
Torren sighed heavily, and when he looked at me, he looked so distraught it made my chest ache. He reached out and held my hands gently, his grip warm but trembling slightly.
"I'm not sure of what I just said," he admitted quietly. "But you've shown all the signs of being a carrier."
The word hung in the air between us like a weight.
Carrier. What the hell was that anyways?
I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry. "If I eventually am a carrier… is it a bad thing? Is it something that would kill me?"
Torren let out a short, humorless laugh. "Being a carrier of a heritage won't kill you. But it will cause a lot of trouble in the supernatural world."
I frowned, confusion mixing with the fear already churning in my stomach. "Why? Shouldn't everyone be happy there's a carrier? Isn't that a good thing?"
He shook his head slowly, and the sadness in his expression made my blood run cold.
"Carriers like you are always labelled as witches," he said quietly. "It's going to be hard, Ravenna. There are some packs who will want you for selfish purposes. They'll see you as a weapon. A tool to use. And then there are others who will want you dead because they're afraid of what you represent."
The words hit me like a physical blow.
I stared at him, my mouth opening and closing, but no sound came out.
"No," I finally whispered, shaking my head. "No, it can't be true. Those signs were normal. You're just mistaken."
Torren squeezed my hands tighter, his eyes locked on mine. "This is just a guess right now. I need to run more tests on you. Give you some different potions. But Ravenna, I think you're close to the heritage manifesting."
I felt my chest tighten. "Why do you think that?"
"Because your wolf detected the potion," he explained carefully. "That potion is a rare poison that affects the system without anyone knowing. The fact that Moonlight sensed it means she's drawing her power from somewhere else. And that's what's strengthening her senses."
I sank onto the chair behind me, my legs suddenly too weak to hold me.
My mind was racing.
I thought about Darius. How his father hadn't even been happy about me mating with his son. If Richard discovered now that I was a carrier of an extinct heritage, he would take every opportunity to eliminate me.
Darius had promised to be by my side. But would he be able to overcome this tribulation? Could he protect me from his own pack? From the entire supernatural world?
What about my father? Would he give up his daughter if I was labelled a witch?
What about Theo? Sam? Dorian?
Would they all turn their backs on me?
"Have you told my father?" I asked quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.
Torren shook his head immediately. "Whatever we discuss here is always between us. It's confidential."
Relief washed over me, though it did nothing to ease the fear tightening around my chest. "Thank you."
"Don't tell the others," he instructed firmly. "Not yet. We need to keep this a secret until I'm done researching and we know for sure."
I nodded, unable to speak past the lump in my throat.
Torren stood and walked over to the cupboard, pulling out a small leather bag. He opened it and began placing vials inside—different colours, different potions.
"These might not do anything before the heritage fully manifests," he said as he worked. "But I want you to take one spoonful every morning, noon, and night. And you need to do it before eating. Understand?"
I nodded again, my hands trembling as I took the bag from him.
"Thank you," I whispered.
I walked out of the examination room, my legs shaky, my mind still spinning.
Darius stood up the moment he saw me, his expression shifting immediately to concern. He crossed the room in two strides and kissed my cheek gently.
"Are you alright?"
I forced myself to smile. "I'm fine."
I sat down on the sofa beside my father, and Darius sat beside me, his hand finding mine immediately.
I exhaled slowly, trying to steady myself. "Did you tell my dad about Selina?"
Darius nodded. "Yes."
My father reached into his pocket and pulled out something small—a dagger that looked like a hairpin.
He handed it to me carefully. "I made this specially for you."
I took it, turning it over in my hands, examining it.
He showed me a small button on the side. "Press this."
I pressed it, and the metal reconstructed itself instantly, shifting and extending until it became a full dagger, sharp and deadly.
My eyes widened. "This is incredible."
"You should always carry it with you," my father said firmly. "Everywhere. No matter where you go."
I nodded, my chest tight with emotion. "Thank you."
We stood to leave, and my father pulled me into a tight hug.
"Are you sure you're fine?" he asked quietly, his voice thick with concern.
I nodded against his chest. "It's just Moonlight. Nothing to worry about."
He pulled back and looked at me for a long moment, searching my face like he was trying to see past the lie.
Then he turned to Darius. "Take care of her or I'll bite your head off."
Darius chuckled. "I will. I promise."
We got into the car, and Darius started the engine.
As we pulled out of the driveway, he glanced over at me. "Are you really fine?"
I nodded. "Yes."
He didn't look convinced, but he didn't push.
We drove in silence for a few minutes, and then I noticed we were heading in the wrong direction. He’d turned right at the junction that meets at the pather to my father’s house, and he’s supposed to turn left that would lead us to the academy.
"Darius," I called, frowning. "You're going the wrong way."
He smiled. "No, I'm not. We're going shopping for the festival."
I blinked. "The festival is days away."
"Exactly," he replied. "It's good to be prepared."
I sighed but didn't argue.
He drove for a while, and eventually, we reached the town. I looked out the window, staring at the town which used to be home and hangout. It had been ages since I'd come to town. We rode past my biker club, and my heart clenched painfully. I was very sure they’d have heard everything happening at the academy and I’d never come to see them, once.
The last time I had seen them was on the day of Darius's betrothal announcement to Selina. And then the race which I’d gotten involved in before the accident which nearly claimed my life.
I looked away, sadness still very much clouding my being. What would they be thinking about me? I got carried away with everything that I forget the people who were my family first?
Darius squeezed my hand gently. "If you ever want to see them, I'll support you. I'll go with you and even explain the situation to them."
I turned to him, my heart swelling, and crashed my lips against his.
His eyes widened, and he pulled back slightly. "Raven, You do have the idea I'm on the road right?"
I laughed and rested my head on his chest and wrapped my arms around him. "You're being dramatic."
We parked in front of a boutique, and Darius took my hand as we walked inside. The place was huge, with sections for everything: men's wear, women's wear, accessories, shoes. Darius led me to the women's section and explained to the lady in charge what we were looking for.
She smiled warmly and began bringing out dresses.
I tried the first one. It’s a beautiful red gown with a plunging neckline and I really loved it. I stepped out of the changing room, and Darius's eyes went wide.
Then his expression darkened. "No. I don't like your breasts showing like that. You can’t wear the dress." He gave me a disgustful expression.
I burst out laughing. "Darius!"
I went back in and tried on another one, a sleek black dress with a slit that went up to my thigh. I stepped out again and turned around for him to check me out properly.
Darius frowned immediately and was quiet for a while, his eyes raking through my body. "Well, it’s a beautiful dress but it’s showing too much of your thighs."
I laughed harder, unable to help myself as realization dawned on me on what he’s doing. "You're a jealous, possessive freak, Darius."
He crossed his arms. "And you love me for that." He grinned widely showing his teeth
I shook my head slowly and turned and went back into the room. The lady handed me the third dress. It’s okay but I didn't like it. So I grabbed a blue long dress with spread-out sleeves, elegant and flowing. I immediately fell in love with it because it made me look like a royal…like a princess. I tried it on and stepped out.
Darius's jaw dropped. And then his eyes widened dramatically, and his mouth fell open. He stood up looking at me in awe and then clapped his hand and shook his head slowly. "Whoa! What in the amazing world am I looking at? Is this my beautiful woman, Ravenna? Gosh! You're so beautiful," he breathed out. "You look like a queen, baby."
I smiled, warmth flooding my chest. I wasn’t expecting his reaction. Hell, I wasn’t expecting him to like the cloth. "I love this one too."
The lady in charge came over as I went back to change. "You should keep that man," she said quietly. "I've been working here for years, and I've never seen a man look at a woman the way he looks at you."
I smiled. "He's not going anywhere. He's my mate."
Her eyes lit up. "You're so lucky. I'm jealous." And then a pause. “If I may say, we’ve shoes and bags matching the outfit and I think you’d like them.”
She brought out the shoes and a bag, and I tried them on.
Perfect.
I came out, and Darius paid for everything without hesitation.
"Let's grab you a suit," I suggested.
He shook his head. "I have plenty of them in my closet. Many of them which I’ve not worn but my mom forced them on me. I don’t need another one. I only want to spoil my woman."
“Fine, suit yourself, Mr. Darius”
We got into the car, and as we were driving back, we saw an ice cream cart parked on the side of the road.
Darius looked at me with a knowing look. I looked back at him with the same expression.
We both yelled at the same time. "We want ice cream!"
Then we burst out laughing as we got out of the car.
