Chapter 132 Breaking Point
Chapter 132
RAVENA
At first, I thought it was all just a show. A display of anger that would blow over. That they were not really going to do this.
But then I watched Caleb grab that wolf girl by the throat and snap her neck right there in front of everyone. The sound of her bones breaking echoed through the classroom. Her body dropped to the floor like a puppet with its strings cut.
My stomach turned violently. I knew immediately that a repeat of last night's terror was about to happen all over again.
My mind raced. What should I do? My eyes landed on Caleb as he turned to fight the other Mooncrest wolves rushing towards him. Part of me wanted to attack him. After all, he had started this fight. He had killed that girl.
My phone pinged in my pocket. I pulled it out. A message from Sam.
Are you out of class yet?
How did Sam know what was happening? I was about to ignore the message when another one came through.
I'm on my way to get you.
"No," I whispered. "No, no, no."
I grabbed my bag and headed for the door. I had to stop Sam from coming here.
Then I remembered my father's warning through Theodore. Stay away from wolf fights, do not interfere. Just leave. He was right. I needed to get out of here before this got worse.
The classroom door burst open with such force it slammed against the wall.
Darius walked in, rage written across every feature. His eyes were already starting to turn gold. Behind him came more Mooncrest wolves, all of them looking ready for violence.
Darius's eyes locked onto mine immediately across the room. He beckoned with his eyes towards the exit. The message was clear. Get out now. I did not need to be told twice.
I turned and ran towards the back door of the classroom. Just before I reached it, I glanced back one more time. Darius had torn his shirt off. His body was already partially shifted. He grabbed Caleb and they crashed together with brutal force.
Sadness and terror flooded through me in equal measure. This was all my fault. All of it.
I ran out of the classroom and down the hall as fast as my legs would carry me.
"Raven!" Sam's voice called from ahead.
She was running towards me from the opposite direction. I grabbed her hand without slowing down and pulled her along with me.
"What is happening?" she gasped.
"Run! Just run!"
Behind us, someone yelled out. "There is a fight in classroom 120! Mooncrest wolves, we need to eliminate all Silverthorn pack members! Now!"
More footsteps pounded down the corridors. Shouts echoed from every direction.
I held Sam's hand so tightly I was probably hurting her. But I could not let go. Could not risk us getting separated in this chaos.
We finally made it back to our room. I slammed the door shut and locked it. Then I dragged our desk in front of it for extra security.
We both collapsed onto the floor, panting hard.
"This school is going completely crazy," Sam wheezed. "There is a serious fight happening in hall room 330. And another one in hall room 225. They are everywhere."
"We stay in this room," I managed between breaths. "We do not leave until the fighting dies down. Understood?"
"Understood."
But I felt sick to my stomach. I had watched two violent incidents brew between these packs in just one day. Last night at the club. Now this morning at the academy.
This place did not feel safe anymore. Not for anyone. Not if this war continued. A loud bang echoed from outside our door.
We both jumped. Then came a piercing scream that made us whimper and grab onto each other. I crawled over to the door and pressed my eye against the keyhole to see what was happening.
A female student was being dragged down our hallway by two other girls. The victim was crying and trying to fight back but she was no match for two against one.
"We are going to make your life hell," one of the attackers snarled. "When we are done with you, you will leave this academy and never return. Do you understand?"
More screams and more sounds of violence.
I sat back down, covering my mouth with both hands and trying to breathe properly.
I was scared to my core. Nothing like this had ever happened to me before. I had never been this terrified in my life.
Evening finally came. But before then, about three hours after we had locked ourselves in the room, we heard sirens.
Heavy boots ran down the corridors. Security guards were shouting orders.
"Freeze! Get on the ground or we will shoot!"
"Security is here," Sam breathed in relief.
"It took them long enough," I replied bitterly.
"Maybe someone finally reported the fights."
A knock sounded on our door some minutes later. I stood up carefully and went to peek through the keyhole. Theodore stood outside carrying a shopping bag and smiling at the door like nothing was wrong.
I unlocked the door and pulled it open. "It took you long enough."
"It took you long to open the door," he countered, stepping inside. "What were you doing?"
"Verifying it was actually you and not someone trying to break in."
Theodore walked in and stopped when he saw Sam sitting on her bed staring at us.
I cleared my throat. "Sam, this is my brother Theodore. Theodore, this is my friend Samantha."
"I know Theo is your brother," Sam replied.
I blinked. "You do?"
"He and your father visited you at the hospital when you had your accident. Remember?"
"Oh right. I was unconscious for most of that."
"But you will explain the other details later," Sam added.
"Yes. Later."
Theodore looked between us with amusement. Then he turned to me. "Did you join the fight?"
"No. Did you?"
"Absolutely not. I hate both sides equally."
He dropped the shopping bag on my bed. "Who is hungry?"
Sam jumped up immediately. "Me! I am starving!"
My phone pinged. I pulled it out and saw a message from Asteria.
Meet me at the school gate now.
I sighed. "Sam, continue having fun with Theo. There is someone I need to see."
"Be careful out there," Sam warned. "The security is still rounding people up."
"I will be quick."
I grabbed my jacket and headed out, making my way carefully to the main gate. Security guards were everywhere but they were focused on breaking up fights and arresting violent students. They barely glanced at me.
I found Asteria waiting outside the gate, leaning against the fence.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I demanded.
Instead of answering my question, Asteria smiled widely. "Is it not beautiful?"
I frowned. "Is what beautiful?"
"The chaos. All of it: the blood, the fighting. Everything." Her eyes were practically glowing with excitement. "It is absolutely awesome."
Ice ran through my veins. I stared at my sister properly for the first time in months and realized something horrifying. She was mentally sick.
"I watched my classmate die right in front of my eyes today," I spoke slowly and clearly. "And you are standing here telling me it is beautiful?"
"It is not my problem what you watched," Asteria shrugged. "We need to finish what we started."
"No." The word came out firm. Final. "This is not your fault, Asteria. It is mine. My fault for listening to you in the first place. My fault for coming to this damn academy for so-called revenge. My fault for releasing all those videos that started this war."
"Raven—"
"Everything is my fault!" I nearly shouted. "I got so carried away with punishing Richard and Darius for what they supposedly did to me that I did not stop to think about what it would cause."
Asteria's smile faded slightly.
"And I am angry at you," I continued, my voice shaking. "I am so angry at you for using my feelings to manipulate me. For pushing me to do all of this. I regret everything. I cannot do this anymore. The fights. The blood. I cannot watch people die."
"But we are so close—"
"There will be no more digging for dirt," I cut her off. "No more videos. No more revenge. My mission at this academy is over. Done. It’s finished."
"You cannot just quit—"
"I have forgiven them," I stated. "For whatever they did to you. Whatever they did to me. All of it. And I want you to do the same."
Asteria just stared at me.
"And finally," I took a deep breath. "I want you to go back home and prepare to return to school properly. You will not be coming back to this academy because of the issues you have with Darius. So, I will ask Aunt Lila to find a better school for you."
"What?"
"All of this madness ends today," I finished. "Right here and now. It is over."
For the first time since I had known her, Asteria's smile completely disappeared. Her face went cold. Like all the warmth had been sucked out of her. She stared at me with an expression I had never seen before. Hatred. Pure, undiluted hatred.
And in that moment, I realized I might have just made a terrible mistake.
