Chapter 110 Consequences be damned
Chapter 110
DARIUS
Caleb grunted angrily beneath me, his face twisted in fury. Before I could land another punch, his hands shot up and locked around my neck.
He twisted sharply, using his momentum to bring me down.
I crashed onto my back with him on top of me, and immediately his fists started raining down on my face.
Pain exploded across my jaw, cheek and temple.
I grunted and cursed him through gritted teeth, trying to block the blows with my arms.
Caleb smirked down at me, not even breathing hard. He grabbed my face roughly, forcing me to look at him. "Do you really still want to challenge me? Because it looks to me like you are losing already."
I smiled savagely, tasting blood in my mouth. "Am I really losing?"
Without waiting for his response, I spat directly in his face.
He recoiled instinctively, and that split second of distraction was all I needed. I gathered my strength, hooked my leg around his, and flipped him hard onto the floor. The impact echoed through the space.
I scrambled to my feet and kicked him in the ribs. The crowd erupted in cheers.
Caleb rolled to the side, still smirking despite the hit. He pushed himself up slowly, wiping blood from his lip.
We circled each other for a moment, both breathing heavily. Then we lunged at the same time, our hands locking together as we grappled for dominance.
He managed to lock his arms around my sides, squeezing tight.
I drove my elbow down into his spine three times.
He grunted and loosened his grip. I shoved him backwards, and he crashed to the floor again.
"Get up and fight!" I yelled at him. "Or are you tired already?"
Caleb crawled towards the rope boundary, breathing hard. I did not give him a chance to recover. I kicked him again, harder this time, and he grunted in pain as my foot connected with his shoulder.
The crowd was screaming now, a wall of noise that barely registered in my ears.
I knelt down in front of him and grabbed the front of his shorts, yanking him up slightly. "Get up, asshole."
Caleb's fist came out of nowhere. It struck me square in the jaw, and I staggered backwards, stars bursting across my vision.
I shook my head to clear it and managed to stay on my feet, but Caleb was already rushing at me.
He landed blow after blow on my face, each one harder than the last. My head snapped to the side. Blood filled my mouth. My vision blurred.
Something old and bitter rose up inside me. Something that had nothing to do with Ravenna and everything to do with years of resentment I had buried deep.
Caleb leaned in close as he hit me again. "She knew, you know. Ravenna knew you are a prick. A fucking asshole who would never love a girl properly. So she went for me instead. The good boy."
I lost control completely.
A roar tore from my throat as I grabbed his neck with both hands and slammed him down onto the floor with every ounce of strength I had. His head bounced off the ground.
Caleb laughed. Actually laughed, even as I pinned him down. "Is that all you can deliver, Darius? Because I am going to Fk with Ravenna properly next time. And I will send you a video of her screaming my name in pleasure."
Rage consumed me entirely. I punched him in the face. Then again. And again.
He fought back just as savagely, managing to throw me off and get on top of me again. His fist connected with my ribs, and pain shot through my entire side.
We rolled across the floor, hitting each other with everything we had. No technique. No strategy. Just pure, unfiltered violence.
Blood splattered across the ground. I could not tell whose it was anymore.
I landed a punch to his nose, and I felt it break beneath my knuckles. He drove his knee into my stomach, and all the air left my lungs.
The crowd was a blur of noise and movement around us. I could barely see through the blood and sweat dripping into my eyes.
Then suddenly, everything changed.
Bright lights flooded the space. Whistles blew sharply out of nowhere. Heavy footsteps pounded towards us.
"Security!" someone screamed.
The crowd scattered immediately, students running in every direction to find exits and hiding spots. Bodies shoved past each other in panic.
But the security guards ignored all of them. They went straight for Caleb and me.
Strong hands grabbed my arms and yanked me backwards. I tried to fight them off, but there were too many.
They pulled Caleb away from me at the same time, both of us still trying to reach each other even as we were dragged apart.
"Let me go!" I snarled and turned to Caleb who was struggling with them. "You found a way to call them to come save your ass?"
"Both of you, move! Now!" one of the guards barked.
They hauled us out of the underground area and through the campus. Students who had not been at the fight stared at us as we passed. Some pulled out their phones to take pictures.
I did not care. My entire body throbbed with pain. My face felt like it had been put through a meat grinder. But the rage still burned in my chest.
They threw us into a holding cell in the security building. The metal door clanged shut behind us with a heavy, final sound.
"Stay on opposite sides of the cell," one guard ordered. "If either of you tries anything, we will add more time to your punishment."
Caleb limped to the far corner and slumped against the wall, breathing hard. His face was a mess of blood and bruises. One of his eyes was already swelling shut.
I stayed on my side, leaning against the cold concrete wall. Everything hurt. My ribs screamed with every breath. My hands were split open and bleeding. My face felt like it had doubled in size.
We sat in silence for several minutes, both of us trying to catch our breath.
Finally, Caleb spoke. "What do you think they are going to do to us?"
I did not look at him. "Maybe ship you back to your stupid pack and school."
"If you think they would do that, then you must be really deluded," Caleb shot back. "Our packs would never allow it. We will get detention. Maybe suspension. But expulsion? Not a chance."
I hated that he was probably right.
Three hours passed slowly. The adrenaline wore off, and the pain intensified. Every part of my body ached. I could not get comfortable no matter how I sat or stood.
Caleb looked just as miserable on his side of the cell.
Finally, the door opened. A different guard stood there with a clipboard. "You two are getting detention for a month. Every evening after classes. If you come late even once, you will get extra fines added. Understood?"
"Understood," I muttered.
"Understood," Caleb echoed.
"Get out. And if I see either of you in here again, the punishment will be much worse."
I did not need to be told twice. I pushed myself up and walked out of the cell, every step sending fresh waves of pain through my body.
The cool night air hit my face as I stepped outside the security building. I headed towards my dormitory, wanting nothing more than to collapse into bed.
But then I spotted movement near the side of the building. Someone lurking in the shadows.
I turned sharply and found Ravenna standing there, partially hidden behind a pillar.
"What do you want?" I asked flatly.
She stepped into the light. "I could not sleep. Not knowing what happened to you and Caleb. So I had to sneak over to the security building and peek through the window to see what was going on."
I hissed through my teeth. "Are you happy with everything that happened tonight?"
"Happy?" Her eyes flashed with anger. "You do not have the right to blame me for your stupid fight, Darius. You were the one who challenged Caleb in the first place."
"I warned you not to go on that date with him!" I yelled, my voice echoing through the empty courtyard.
"So what?" She stepped closer, her jaw set. "I have every right to go on whatever date I want with whichever man I choose. You need to kill this attitude of yours."
"Ravenna—"
"No." She cut me off sharply. "Do not interfere with my life anymore. Whether Caleb and I are talking or having fun or doing anything else, it is none of your business. And do not you dare try to fight with him again."
I clenched my fists, ignoring the pain in my knuckles. "You are making a mistake. And you will regret it."
"If it is a mistake, then it is my mistake," Ravenna replied coldly. "Not yours. So do not bother yourself about it."
With that, she turned and sauntered off into the darkness, leaving me standing there alone with my injuries and my fury.
